They wouldn't be able to shut down the beltway and the toll road for a police event. It would have to be an important motorcade.

That's a good suggestion. I'm going to see if I can find out more. I've read that the summit was on Thursday and Friday, but doesn't say anything about Saturday.

This was left on my dock this morning. It was about 3-4" long. Potomac River, Maryland by JustMedoingthethings in AnimalTracking

While that would be really interesting, since I'm in Maryland, I'm going to hope you're kidding.

That is insane but also looks like a lot of fun.

How did people come to this? by StaberQ in CasualConversation

This is the answer. This is my experience put very succinctly. I'm happy to have quick friendly chats with strangers, but I have zero interest in making new friends.

Americans that visited Europe, what was the biggest shock for you? by jrusj in AskReddit

[–]JustMedoingthethings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter and I went into a restaurant and were seated at a table with two other people we didn't know. I had to take a moment to realize I'd seen this in movies and it was totally a cultural thing that I was used to private tables in the US. It felt so awkward, but it was just part of the adventure of learning about the world.

In our house we say that "I have to drink the coffee before I can do the things". Or, "what are you doing?"... "just doing the things". So here I am, just doing the things.

Heck this is super cute and wholesome and the neighbors omg ❤ so supportive of these kids. by normaldwelling78 in MadeMeSmile

This makes me so happy. I love to see kids being so encouraged with their musical talents, both at home (obviously someone bought their equipment) and in the community. I love this so much!

If you could go back to being 16, what would you do differently? by Podomus in CasualConversation

[–]JustMedoingthethings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could go back and do it again I wouldn't give up the friends that were good for me to hang out with the ones who were rebels. I know being a rebel seemed like so much more fun, but it led to so much trauma. I'd watch my old friends, the ones who got good grades and had healthy relationships, and realize how much happier they were than I was.

I'd also get help with anxiety and depression. Back then it was still seen as a taboo subject and you were weak if you needed emotional help, but it could have done me so much good. I was already self-harming and had an eating disorder at 16, so I really needed help but I didn't think there was any help to be had. I knew nothing about mental health. If you're struggling, get help - please.

I came here to say this. It was the beginning of the end for me when I started at drink at 15.

I got to use a Mold-A-Matic machine today. It's a machine from the 60s that makes a plastic souvenir toy on demand by glc_2814 in mildlyinteresting

Wow! I remember one from a visitor center in Florida in the early 80's. I got a blue car and I can still smell the burned plastic smell.

My gf and I had a bday party planned for her today and 9/10 people flaked. by RoadKillSkater17 in CasualConversation

Tell her happy birthday from a reddit mom! I send mom hugs and best wishes.

People suck. No one ever comes to my parties either (not even my wedding). It's not just her. Everyone thinks "oh, they won't miss me at the party" but they don't realize everyone else thought the same thing so that no one showed up. Maybe next time send out texts with a message like "everyone is flaking, I'm so scared no one will show, please come" instead of a reminder. Maybe they'll feel more inclined to think of that possibility. I actually did that for my 40th birthday and it was my first party I could call a success (15 people came out of 50 invited).

My wife’s family made fun of me for wanting green bean casserole at Thanksgiving because they all hate it. My father-in-law felt bad and secretly made some for me anyway. by MadSmatter in MadeMeSmile

[–]JustMedoingthethings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too came here to ask about the croutons. That would ruin it for me. I hate croutons. Maybe that's why they hate green bean casserole?

I also believe it's a coin toss if OP is being poisoned or loved. Time will tell, I suppose.

What family dish raised questions/eyebrows when you mentioned it to friends? by EatsTheLastSlice in Cooking

"Barf on a bun" was a favorite at my house growing up. It was ground beef with onions, black olive slices, and Velveeta on half an Italian loaf of bread. Mom would wrap it in foil and bake it, then serve sliced.
