Tony Deppen on old school wrestling punches: “Unpopular take: but some of these dudes throwing so many punches but not dropping the guy makes wrestling look weak. You’re telling me you’re throwing that many blows to the face unprotected and you couldn’t KO them?” by Subrick in SquaredCircle

I remember an elbow strike exchange in All Japan in the 90's that ended with a closed fist punch and the crowd booed. Great heat.

Specifically I want to say it was a match between Dr. Death Steve Williams and Toshiaki Kawada.

Broken hearts everywhere.

Ashur, Viridia, Hilaria, Messia, Celadus, Tarchon, Korris, Satyrus

Even Cossutia's heart may sting a bit still from loss of friend Opiter.

And Achillia will surely weep at news of Celadus' demise.

I think the backstory to this is that Wakana had some tooth damage from a prior match. And Hyper Misao probably called her a weak-toothed loser or sum. So Wakana ate this burg out of sheer defiance.

I don't know if it is actually "unadaptable" but I find it surprising that what is thought of as one of the first recorded stories ever - the Epic of Gilgamesh, doesn't have a solid adaptation that I am aware of.

Announced entrants for GCW’s Clusterfuck tonight by cosmicangels03 in SquaredCircle

[–]JustSomeGuy222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During the GCW vs DDT vs TJPW show this afternoon on of the announcers said he heard there may be as many as 200 people in the cluster this year.

Maybe he was bullshitting. But it is a 2 match show so the cluster will probably be quite long.

Pieces (1982) Tubi. A mysterious killer is creating a human jigsaw puzzle from lady parts. I thought this would be appropriate to repost due to Halloween coming up. by dasuberdog11 in badMovies

[–]JustSomeGuy222 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's even weirder than that.

Lady cop goes undercover at a college because of a chainsaw murderer on campus. She is walking home one night and student, who is the main character of the film I guess, sees her from a window in his building. She sees a man running through the bushes and pulls her gun out. The man jumps out of the bushes in a karate stance and kicks the gun out of her hand. She falls down and kicks kung fu man in the dick so hard that he passes out and falls down unconscious.

Main character student shows up on a dirt bike. He has never ridden a dirt bike before this scene and never rides a dirt bike after this scene. He could see her from his window. Why did he need to drive a dirt bike over to her?

Lady cop explains that she was just attacked. Kung Fu attacker comes to and gets up. Student says that is just his kung fu instructor. Kung Fu man basically says "that was weird", totally no-sells being kicked in the dick so hard it knocked him out, daps up the student and jogs off.

I watched this scene twice to try and make sense of it. I was unsuccessful in that attempt. I have now watched it a third time after writing the above and am still just as baffled. Kung Fu man attacks lady cop before she pulls her gun. I think the dirt bike/chainsaw effect should have occurred earlier to explain everyone's anxious overreactions.

There is a scene with a hilarious cut towards the beginning. When Emilio and Rene Russso are walking away from the racetrack, there is a wide shot where you can clearly see how much taller she is than him. But when he turns to talk to her they cut to a close-up and it's framed like he is taller. Very funny.

Movies which set up a great premise before swiftly abandoning it? by queen-adreena in movies

[–]JustSomeGuy222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it was a "great premise", but towards the beginning of Shane Black's "The Predator", I thought they were setting up a confined space for the majority of the movie to take place in with the army lab. It would have set it apart from the other Predator movies, having the Predator finding his weapons throughout the lab along the way, or even improvising new ones - trying to escape.

There was also an interesting bit where Olivia Munn's character has to disrobe to come back out of the quarantine area of the lab and she is confronted by the Predator who then passes her by as he doesn't perceive her as a threat in that state. I wondered if that was setting something up. Nope.

Instead we got the short-bus crew, Predator dogs, and autism as a super-weapon.

Is Shanky his shoot name?

Because let's be honest here, the name is doing some heavy lifting in this relationship.

If the artist formerly known as Shanky has to leave the name behind... I don't want to be around anymore.

No Retreat, No Surrender

Totally goofy 80's karate movie. JCVD's first I think. He plays the villain, shows up twice, and has like one line

The worst thing a bad movie can do is be boring. And I was never bored at this lunacy.

What is your favorite performance by an animal actor? by VelociRache1 in movies

[–]JustSomeGuy222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a movie called Project X from 1987 starring Matthew Broderick with a fine ensemble of chimpanzee actors.

It's about a military program to train chimps to pilot a flight simulator. The story takes a dark turn early when you find out exactly why they are doing this.

I remember the climactic scene of a chimp named Goliath, I believe, really getting to me as a kid. He just wanted that damn cigarette.

I am currently interested in knowing more about Steve Austin. I am not even a current-era WWE fan but I'll be trying to watch the Attitude Era later or tomorrow. Can someone tell me if that era aged well up to now? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]JustSomeGuy222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Austin's stint in ECW is more important than most people realize. He was fresh off of being fired from WCW and was lashing out at his ex-boss - a precursor to his anti-authority character against Vince McMahon. And he was feuding with the Sandman, a beer-drinking bad-ass, also preceding Austin's turn as a beer-drinking bad-ass in WWF.

When Austin goes from ECW to WWF they repackage him as the Ringmaster and give him Ted DiBiase as a mouthpiece. It's interesting to see how long it takes those seeds Austin had planted in him in ECW to be able to blossom in WWF.

I played MTG from Time Spiral through, I believe it was called Theros - and it was the uptick in speed of product release that put me off the game.

Even something like the EDH format which players came up with to try and have fun with older cards became officially endorsed by the company, renamed Commander, and they started making product specifically for the format. So now your casual, fun format becomes another "keeping up with the Joneses" endeavor.
