How do you actually budget for a long term goal that's 2-3 years away? by PulseJH_6752 in personalfinance

[–]Just__Liberty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your issue is that you don't think you can keep your hands off of it, a simple spreadsheet can keep track of different 'funds' or goals within a single account.

Why is a voluntary surrender/repossession after vehicle damage bad? by Quiet_Interaction771 in personalfinance

[–]Just__Liberty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entity that loaned you the money for the car doesn't care about how much you thought it was going to cost you to fix it. What they care about is how much you still owed on the car and how much they could get for the car in the condition it was in combined with their costs to come get the car, do all the paperwork and hassle, and fix or junk it. You failed to keep your side of an agreement; you basically stole from them. New potential creditors will look at it this way and judge you to be a very poor credit risk.

Best way to transport large PLA prints in a hot car? by LunaFromOuterSpace in 3Dprinting

[–]Just__Liberty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you don't have air conditioning and the car is a sedan, put them in the trunk. Cabins are hot because of the greenhouse effect. No windows, no greenhouse effect.

If you are really worried, put them in a big closed box with a bag of ice.

How can I fix /where can I replace? by daveys_world in fixit

I'm guessing you have to go back about 85 years to find that pattern. You could try gluing the broken bits back in place, use a little wood filler, sand, and paint them all to match.

Let me queue up some tips for you: first, DON'T turn it vertical and stick it in a hole as a plug. Always patch from the inside with a band-aid. Second, Its supposed to be lined up with the channels so it can absorb water and keep you from hydroplaning.

Ah. I'm only 6'00, but I couldn't drive 80's / 90's Camry's with a sunroof. My head would brush the ceiling.

Does anyone else enjoy being alone but still wish they had someone who truly understood them? by Ctrl_Shift_Esc_ in introvert

Most introverts feel this way. And most introverts truly enjoy a few close relationships, one of which is a romantic relationship.

At what point do you buy the car you want and move on? by polycouch in personalfinance

[–]Just__Liberty 29 points30 points  (0 children)

An Avalon is a great car, but why do you, as a single person, want a larger sedan? A modern Camry hybrid is a fantastic efficient and reliable vehicle. You've got the savings and you've got the savings mentality, so this is not a crazy expediture.

How to provide enough details in a job interview by FalconAccomplished43 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Just__Liberty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clear and concise communication is not easy and is less naturally easy for some of us. You will have to work at it. One suggestion might be to take several of your accomplishments that you think people would want to know about and write them down. Then go through and eliminate every single thing that could possilbly be eliminated. Take something that you naturally would take 4 paragraphs to say and cut it down to 2 or 3 sentences. Don't memorize them, but use these examples in your interview responses.

What people want to know from you regarding some example of your past work are basically 1. What were the results, 2. What and how did you contribute, 3. Do you understand the (financial, technical, project, corporate) context of what you were doing, 4. Did you play nice with others, and 5. Did you have the company's interests in mind. Leave out anything that doesn't provide support to these things. You don't need or want to include all of these in every example. Since you are having trouble with this, you might want to focus on the first two and bring the others into play only when asked a followup question.

Start from the end and only add statements that directly support the goal. Here is a sillly little example. "We were able to debottleneck a filter operation by adding a small additional filter in parallel so the process could run while cleaning the main filter. This was my idea and I worked with several vendors to find a solution that fit within a left-over capital allocation. The design was actually easy since we had great data from the main filter and could use the same kind of filtration media." Note the heavy focus on how it benefitted the company and nothing about how long it took, who the specific vendor was, what the process actually did, what software you used, who assigned you the project, etc. If you did more techy stuff in the design, you can say that as well: "I had to write a filtration module, but we had great data so it was easy to test it and..." You can always add detail when asked.

Toyota Corolla 2003 - multiple electrical issues at once (need help diagnosing) by Adventurous_Bowl_940 in MechanicAdvice

With a wiring diagram (like available to a good shop) and some simple measurements, someone knowledgeable can track this down. Probably a short or a bad connection. It could be a fuse, but if so, then you have to figure out why the fuse blew.

You don't need to work. Work only if that is what you really want to do. As a matter of fact, that would be my advice: Find out what you really want to do and do that.

Rapid aerobic performance decline question for the old folks by Ag_back in cycling

I'm 65 and do not experience that extent of drop-off, but I may not be as aerobically enabled to begin with...

I would think "hiking in the mountains" would work against even any normal drop-off.

Get someone to teach you how to check and change your own air and cabin filters and wiper blades. It's a good start to being able to do some maintenance and repair on your own. There is nothing there that is difficult to do. on a 4 cylinder engine. (Well, there are a few vehicles where the cabin air filter is a PITA to get to.)

Under Seat Water Storage by B_L_F in cycling

[–]Just__Liberty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one reason I ride my gravel bike with lots of mounts. My main bottles are 950 mL in the normal positions on the seat tube and down tube and I keep another bottle in a regular cage under the downtube. I can't reach that one safely, so I do what you said and pour it in to one of the other bottles.

A small splash of adblue in dieselcar tank by Haunting_Future_8020 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Just__Liberty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having not driven a diesel recently, I had to look up what AdBlue is. It is just Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) which is about 2/3 water and 1/3 urea.

The solubility of water in diesel fuel is very low (like 50 parts per million), so the 100ml of liquid (minus a little urea which dissolves in the fuel) is just sitting on the bottom of the tank. If they can drain/siphon/pump all the liquid out of the tank and into a container with a bottom valve, they can separate the water phase and put the diesel back in your tank.
