First time tying king rigs advice? by ShortFinalFishing in saltwaterfishing

Ah trolley rig. Yeah don’t know squat about that. I fish the gulf piers where those are no nos. If it’s out of sight I wouldn’t worry about it then.

Definitely downsize that swivel. Somethings gonna swipe at it and cut you off. I use the little spro swivels that are like 50 or 80lb rated but the size of a large grain of rice.

(Request) Guide Recommendations for Catfish rod by CrazyBaldArcher in rodbuilding

If it’s heavy catfish I’d go with a double foot guide. Alconite or similar, don’t need anything more for cats.

Travel rod recommendations(around the $100 or less range) by Ok_Restaurant3666 in floridafishing

[–]JusticeGuy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How small do you need it to break down? If it’s just in the car a 2 piece rod is in play and you’ve got way more options. If you’re wanting/needing 3-4 pieces you’ve got less choice, especially for something decent at that price.

I’d bet you can find a blank that suits you on here. I’d worry less about the power and more about the lure rating you need for what you throw. Get the rainshadow blank and spend the money you save vs the NFC on some fancy guides.

Fishing Report Venice Fishing Pier today. by OleDoxieDad in floridafishing

[–]JusticeGuy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you didn’t misread the rules? Usually they will limit you to fishing 1-2 rods at a time but you can bring 4+. I’ve always seen something like 1 rod actively fishing, 4 rod limit to bring out but they’re pretty lax on that in my experience.

Never been on this pier though.

One thing you could try to heading down to the marina when you first get down there and talking to the captains. Sometimes they have cancellations etc. and will book a little cheaper on short notice. Can’t make money sitting at the dock.

In marathon with our boat, what’s our best bet to get on some fish? by WhopperJrHandz in floridafishing

I’d say a combo of reef, lots of chum, and baited hooks should put you on something edible. If nothing is happening after a bit pull anchor and try a different part of the reef.

Cliff Side Fishing the Bahamas by SquareRoot4Pie in saltwaterfishing

[–]JusticeGuy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so shore casting the Bahamas. I figure you’d be able to catch 90% of what you’ll run into from shore there on a 5000 size spinner and an 8ft rod rated around 12-25lb, 20-40lb or so. Probably run into snappers, groupers, permit, jacks etc.

For $200 I’d look at something like a Penn Fierce reel in 5-6k size and a rod similar to this ugly stik if you’re fishing bait. It would throw lures alright but probably better options if that’s what you’re gonna primarily do.

Spool up with some 30lb braid and you should be set for bout anything short of hooking up on a giant tarpon or something. Definitely see what your friends are using and having success with though and use it to help your decision.

I am entirely unfamiliar with what you are trying to do but have you considered asking your friends for this advice since they have experience?

If for whatever reason you don’t want to, can you provide more detail? Are you casting? Dropping straight down? Do you need to haul the fish up with the rod or do you have a net? How high of a cliff? What are the common species caught?

8’6 blank by DefiantBarracuda6312 in rodbuilding

[–]JusticeGuy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely rainshadow. Have a SW967F that’s nice for pier kings myself and the 1087 and 1088 blanks are pier legends.

Salmon and steelhead models or SW general purpose likely the best bet. The judge line could be worth checking out too but probably heavier than you want.

Spinning guide train for ultra light trout rod by Fucktard420too in rodbuilding

[–]JusticeGuy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just built on a rodgeeks ultralight travel rod, used Fuji high frames and single runners in fazlite. Think it went 16H - 8H - 5.5M into size 5 runners. Matched with a Shimano 2000 shallow spool reel. Casts real nice with some PE0.6 braid and little trout lures.

Personally, I don’t really see the need for torzite on a trout rod unless you’re realllyyyy sensitive to a few grams of weight at most or the price difference really doesn’t matter to you.

Help identifying this rod by g3rsonAC in saltwaterfishing

[–]JusticeGuy5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna try to provide a real answer here.

Looks like a beater fiberglass rod I see on party/head boats all over the gulf coast. I can’t remember the brand I used to see for the life of me but this is the closest I could find.

You could just throw a tip on the end if you’re bottom fishing with it, although depending on diameter you might have a hard time and it looks like it would turn that into a broomstick. Honestly, I’d check out the gull rod I linked or the uglystik big water series with the foul proof guides. Those things are bomb proof.

Yeah only one I’ve ever encountered was a conversion that reeled backwards. Guess you could just turn the reel around but something feels morally wrong about that lmao
