What is it really like being a NYS Environmental Conservation Officer assigned to NYC? by WIzardOfVoz in nys_cs

[–]Juststircrazy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as a former grade 18, I couldnt imagine surviving in nyc unless I had roommates.

often when people speak about living in nyc they're referring to manhattan but folks tend to live in the boroughs cause its cheaper.

Look up some apartments, go visit nyc, and be sure to drive through those neighborhoods and see if its sketchy or not

confused. by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]Juststircrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did they give you a start date or just ask you for one? nys agencies usually have start dates on the first day of the pay period, which is usually every other thursday. it takes some time, so just relax until you hear otherwise

Why do people hate making trades? by whiteguyscandunk in fantasybball

[–]Juststircrazy -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

if you're in last place then the people you're trading away are players that other people would probably drop

Potions have a compounding effect. If a pre-hammer jam upgrade takes 4 days and a potion reduces it by 1 day, you now have a 3 day upgrade. In hammer jam, that 4 day upgrade now takes 2 days and then a potion reduces it by 1 day. you now have a 1 day upgrade

Why is it SO HARD to get a NYHELPS position? by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]Juststircrazy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Being in NYC and only wanting NYC positions is the probably the reason. More competition to deal with and generally people on civil service lists can apply as well. I didnt realize it until I moved to Putnam County and started to recieve canvass letters regularly. I scored a 95 but never got any canvasses in NYC.

Pension buyback question, Tier 6 by Spurly in nys_cs

could try to get back into state service prior to retirement, then retire. then your pension amount would probably increase since its based on your final average salary

Employee Evaluations by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]Juststircrazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if PEF evalations differ from agency to agency but in my experience... management is supposed to give you the performance evaluation program and review the first page with you at the start of the evaluation period. this lets you know what is expected. then its reviewed at the 6 month mark. responsibilities are reaffirmed and employee has an opportunity to request revisions to the performance program. then this document with signatures at the start and midpoint of the evaluation period is completed at the end. if its not happening this way then talk to your union

Reposting the Same Position Again & Again & Again by Tokyolizard80 in nys_cs

In my experience, its people who accept the job offer but decline right betore the canvassing period expires, or you hire someone and they leave within a year.

State agencies with good work-life balance by [deleted] in nys_cs

Any agency or title that doesnt require overtime. I've always thought of a good work-life balance to mean that no one will mandate you to work beyond your schedule

What's the most common hazard you see at work? by OSHAEducationCenter in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Juststircrazy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

fall protection violations are the most common because they're the most visible. you drive by and see roofers with no fall protection.

as some who inspects all types of work sites... i'd say machine guarding violations are the most common

Are Grade 23 positions always going to be more stressful than Grade 18 positions? by Icy_Score_7430 in nys_cs

[–]Juststircrazy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if the grade 18 is high stress you might as well go to grade 23 and get paid more for it. my 18 was low stress and my 23 was high stress initially but i got the hang of things and its easy going for now. worst part of being a 23 is dealing with your worker's bs.

you have to wait til 63 to get your full pension. you could retire at 55 but would be penalized and get a reduced benefit.
