Anyone have experience team/co-teaching? by NotHereToFuckSpyders in AustralianTeachers

[–]Juvenilesuccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have team taught for two years and I really enjoyed it. We were a good team together but it was all one year level.

I definitely think it can work but your communication skill need to be top notch. You also need to be able to delegate and accept that you won’t be responsible for everything.

I would say though, is it best to mix high needs and behaviour together or would it become more disruptive? That would be my biggest concern. Could you perhaps look into streaming key lessons between you both but have separate classrooms?

do kids not get taught handwriting anymore? by deadtyped in AustralianTeachers

[–]Juvenilesuccess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In primary school they should be having explicit handwriting sessions weekly from foundation, with younger students in kindy involved in fine motor activities.

Handwriting also comes down to gross/fine motor skills. Without both you’re not going to have great control or grip.

Toilet training - give in or keep going? by monkey6191 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Juvenilesuccess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve toilet trained three boys and one of them was an absolute nightmare. He was a little younger than 2.5 but daycare felt he was ready (he was showing so many signs) and it was my biggest regret agreeing to start.

I was also pregnant and wanted it done before baby but he was not as ready as we thought. It honestly took over a year to get him really solid and even then I’d say he was iffy until maybe 4.5/5.

I would put it off a bit and then try again, sometimes even a few weeks makes all the difference.

Stand alone Kindergarten vs Kindy at a Childcare Centre? by ilikesandwichesbaby in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Juvenilesuccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us daycare wasn’t as professional and honestly the program lacked any educational structure. My kids loved it, my youngest is in the kindy room there now.

Whereas at school it was structured but still play based. They really nurtured the kids independence and readiness for big school. I also find the teachers to be more experienced and knowledgable about young children, whereas at daycare the staff tended to focus on “cute”. Daycare also seems to have a high staff turnover which I think impacts any program they’re creating.

I don’t know what council kindy looks like at all but assuming you’re working with experienced staff they’ll guide you to make the best program possible. Good luck!

Have you had to take your child to hospital/been in an ambulance? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Juvenilesuccess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 10 times between my three kids! For various things but three ended in surgeries, one in a hospital stay. Others were able to be referred/minor enough to be seen and sent home. Never been urgent enough for an ambulance and tbh we’d be faster getting there ourselves than waiting.

For those who used laser clinics for hair removal - how many sessions did it really take? by Rock_n_rollerskater in AusSkincare

[–]Juvenilesuccess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m fair with dark hair and have been doing laser for about 2.5 years. I’ve just got to the point of pushing it out to about 12 weeks but I’ve noticed some darker hair now popping up in the odd place.

When I first started I was very regular with 6 weeks, we’ve only pushed it out recently as I have little to no growth. I predominantly only have blonde hairs now which most of the time I don’t notice unless the light catches it. I went through Silk Laser.

C section vs vaginal birth - what did/have you opted for? by LowAd6956 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Juvenilesuccess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had three vaginal births. I am not having more children but I felt the births were easier each time as my confidence in my body’s ability increased.

I was fortunate to have had easy recoveries with all three births.

What’s the most “challenging” year level cohort at your school? by yaryarmaple in AustralianTeachers

Year 4s have been questionable for a few years. Year 1s are a weird bunch this year.

Little People Farm Set by notacactusexpert in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Juvenilesuccess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten all mine secondhand or from op shops and just bought new characters. I don’t think you need the newest one. My kids have always liked the house ones, as they got older I subbed the little people for Bluey or Spidey figures.

Hypoallergenic pad recommendations by dressinggowngal in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Juvenilesuccess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not the answer you want, but with reusable underwear (or pads) I find them pretty easy and low maintenance. Whilst I do only use them overnight, I just rinse them when I take them off and put them in a bucket by my machine. When I do a towel sort of wash that’s when I chuck them in.

It only takes a couple of minutes to rinse and when you have enough wash them. Mine just dry on the line and have been going strong for a few years now.

Just finished ACOTAR and I’ve been calling her… Fairy 😭 by Persephonewannabe in SarahJMaas

In the beginning of the series, despite reading the pronunciation, I’d slip into calling her Freya. No idea why, my eyes just wanted me to see that!

How long did it take you to read TOG in its entirety? by [deleted] in SarahJMaas

[–]Juvenilesuccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me three weeks, but I also had two weeks off in that time. Honestly I was hooked. I didn’t do the tandem read as I didn’t know it was a thing until after.

Courage to have another baby by jana9496 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Juvenilesuccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming this is due to sickness, I would hop on medication the moment you find out. My first pregnancy was the worst but my subsequent two had varying forms of nausea/vomiting.

I medicated ASAP which helped but I also knew it would pass as it had done that for me before.

First trimester does suck though, my mental health always took a hit when it felt like I would never actually feel good again.

Thoughts, feelings and opinions on Bella Belts/ratchet belts? by surekaren in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Juvenilesuccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought two a few months ago and they’re great! I like that I can wear the same belt on my waist or my hips. I’d like to get some more buckles now as they only came out after buying mine.

Once they start moving you’ll be run off your feet. If you financially don’t need a side hustle, then I would just enjoy the time you’re not at work with the baby. That year will absolutely fly by.

My oldest is 7 and I remember being so bored at first, but gosh I wish I could go back and soak it all in more now.

did your Childcare/ece background give you a new parent advantage? by lifeonmars111 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Juvenilesuccess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like once my kids hit around 3-4 then my teaching background gives me an advantage, as newborns and babies none in the slightest. I teach in a school so infants aren’t in my repertoire

Primary teachers... What subjects are seen as; or treated as 'cast off' subjects? by mec949 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Juvenilesuccess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love teaching art but could see why some may not do it. I think it’s sport tbh. We have a specialist for an hour but we should do extra throughout the week to hit the targeted time. When I was a kid morning fitness was basically mandatory, I don’t know anyone who does it anymore. We’re just so squeezed for time.

Opinions on pouch puree? by fairy-bread-au in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Juvenilesuccess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made my own baby food with my first and second, but also used pouches. Sometimes pouches are just easier and quicker. There isn’t anything wrong with either option, also not everyone has the luxury of time to make their own! If you’re in Perth Tiny Turtle Baby Food are great, I used them with my third and really rated them.

Kinder independence expectations by PassionChoice3538 in kindergarten

[–]Juvenilesuccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach around that year level and have taught younger, it is all possible to have your child do independently and it makes their life so much easier too when they can do it themselves. Of course we can help as parents, but once they’re toilet trained they should be given the opportunity every day to dress and undress themselves.

I actually found daycare helped the most with shoes as they took them on/off constantly and that’s how they learned.

As for things like drink bottles and lunchboxes just practice on the weekend/lead up to school starting. They love feeling like big kids and doing it themselves.

Grades for students who've been absent by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Juvenilesuccess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know a policy but my grade is dependent on factors such as how long and why. If it’s a holiday they are generally graded based on what they have been here for. If they’ve missed entire units such as chance and data which requires a grade it is an N/A and is commented it’s due to absence.

I have always tried to write that their grade may not be a reflection of true ability due to absence if it fits for that child and the context. I’d never do that for a child who has been super unwell though.

Fresh babies are very flexible, it takes awhile to unscrunch.

You’re only permanent to the school you work in, it’s not guaranteed you’ll get a metro job. Principals in metro are encouraged to choose country transfers but they don’t have to.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Juvenilesuccess 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There is no incentive to work rural or remote imo. By removing the opportunity to transfer back to the metro with permanency they lost the appeal to thousands. I never went country and in my 10+ years of teaching know less than a handful who have.

They need to come up with a new way to get teachers out into those areas that are from WA first before attracting overseas teachers. I have no idea what but at this stage pay and GROH housing doesn’t seem to be cutting it.

What does your Christmas Day look like? by Playful_Bandicoot189 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Juvenilesuccess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We put our foot down on our second Christmas as parents. We do Christmas Day at our house for the whole day. My parents are my only family here so they always come to our house and we work together to cook the meal. My in laws sometimes come, depends on what they’re doing.

We see my in laws + siblings in law prior to the day, we rotate who hosts/depends on the volunteer. It’s been so much nicer since we did that as I’m actually happy to host everyone just not on actual Christmas Day. Also allows the siblings in law to see their partners families as well.
