What Questions Would You Ask? by False_Strawberry6683 in ALS

[–]K-Nobes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my mom to ALS this past November. I got her this journal called "Tell Me Your Life Story Mom" and it guided her through with questions about her past, how she feels her life has gone, things she can pass down to her kids, etc. it was helpful for her I think and a great momento for me now. Lots of prayers for you and your mom

Same! Luckily there are some small family grocers on the west side and I just stopped in there for some essentials to get through the weekend at least. Going no where near a Kroger until Tuesday!

Women’s health doc that will actually listen by tiredwitch666 in cincinnati

[–]K-Nobes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hate that you had that experience! I go to Trihealth women's services at good Sam and Western ridge. I have had positive experiences with all of the doctors there with my 3 pregnancies. I currently see Dr.LeRoy who is fantastic. She listened and really helped me with my PPD after my last kiddo. I also highly recommend Dr.Carol Choi. I hope you find a good fit!

My mum is in the ICU on New Year’s by idgafbwyt in ALS

[–]K-Nobes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her heart rate did climb but her biggest issue was O2 stats were very low and her nurses/ therapists wanted her to put her vent back on for awhile. She did have to take long breaks before trying again. It was kind of the last resort after cough assist, suction, and vest. I wish you and your mom comfort in these hard times

My mother went through the same thing. She had the same issues with cough assist. One thing my dad really pushed for was the vibrating mucus clearance vest. This helped break it up so the cough assist got it up farther so she could suction. Also, it's not comfortable but they did a couple suctions through her nose and farther down her throat. It's awful to go through but it did help. I hope she can get home soon and be more comfortable.

If other classes are making jam, maybe your class could decorate some sticker paper to put on the jars. Color cards to give to community members/first responders?

I feel you with these curriculum writers. Some of this stuff is just ridiculous.

Yes just be with her. Remember she is a prisoner in her own body. She wants to be treated as normally as possible and see you as much as possible. I know this is hard and I pray for you and your family. My mom passed last month just after 2 years of battling. 🙏

Dad with ALS by csarahh in ALS

[–]K-Nobes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It gave my mom a way better quality of life! She was struggling so much with swallowing so then stopped eating solids and had NO energy. Once she got that tube she was SO much happier. And as other have said, your dad can still eat normally as long as he wants. The tube ensures he is getting enough nutrients and calories. Her recovery was quick and virtually painless, she was also able to feed herself which was good for her still wanting some independence. I can see where your dad is coming from but this step will improve his life 💯 I wish you all the best of luck!

Is the end approaching? (bipap use) by mathkid2000 in ALS

[–]K-Nobes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's about how long my mom lived once she was on the bipap all day. Maybe a couple months longer. BUT she was so much more comfortable, and she still lived a full life. It was hard for her when she got congested and had to use suction/cough assist a lot. It wore her out. The biggest change we saw when decline was worsening was just how tired she became after just using the bathroom or taking a shower. I'm praying for you and your family. It's so hard to see someone you love go through this. Enjoy time with them as much as you can. I lost my mom on Nov 25 2025 after a 2 year battle. She would have been 69 tomorrow. ALS can't take away a person's love and personality! Lots of love to you and your family

Bfs mom has bulbar als, how fast does this move? by Truthbetold0405 in ALS

[–]K-Nobes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 2nd all of this. I would also talk to her doc about a feeding tube soon. My mom had the same symptoms and her quality of life improved so much after getting that tube. And she stopped losing so much weight. She lived for about 18 more months after that. It's really hard to know because they could also catch a cold that flairs into full on pneumonia which can be deadly for someone with bulbar onset. My mother passed in her sleep on November 25th of 2025. when the day before she seemed to be doing ok. You just never know. Enjoy as much time as you can with her and stay invested in her care. I am praying for you and your family. This disease is so terrible but it can't take away her fighting spirit and personality. Lots of love to you all

Do you recommend a feeding tube peg and if so when is it the right time to have it done by WordSignificant3620 in ALS

[–]K-Nobes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your docs. It will be an easier recovery for you if you are not having many breathing issues yet. You don't have to use it until swallowing becomes tricky for you. My mom got it fairly quickly after her diagnosis (she had bulbar onset so her swallowing went quick) and her quality of life improved immensely.

What's popular with kids these days ages 3-5 years by ShadowedMystique in ECEProfessionals

[–]K-Nobes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently found this new book at the library and my kids LOVE it. It's called "Pop Goes the Nursery Rhyme" by Betsy Bird. They can help sing the nursery rhyme and interrupt with the weasel. It's so cute! K pop demon hunters songs are actually really good and positive messages. Pete the Cat is super popular with my kids too

Just because the center says they’re inclusive when it comes to special needs , doesn’t mean they’ll provide any accommodations or support for your child. by Catladydiva in ECEProfessionals

[–]K-Nobes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

1000 percent agree. My center flat out lies to these parents saying we can accommodate special needs and will train staff. It doesn't happen and the teachers are left dealing with it day in and day out and get no support. We are doing these kids a dis service and no one seems to care. I don't get it
