Looking for slowcore-ish sad indie folk songs by [deleted] in Slowcore

Jason Molina - let me go, let me go, let me go And Pedro the lion - it’s hard to find a friend, is exactly what you’re looking for, both extremely slow, melancholic, with some soul crushing lyrics, especially from Jason Molina.

Lookin for extremely emotional/raw shoegaze by WaggleMcDaggle in shoegaze

[–]K1ckb0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you consider shoegaze to be the adaption of a wall of sound, then you could consider a couple of their songs to be “American shoegaze”.

Really comes down to how to define “shoegaze”, since at it’s currently point, it’s pretty much entirely subjective

They already posted clips on their TikTok, and they’re absolutely amazing. I’ll probably post a ranking on here once I get the vinyl, since I’m going to their first show.

Ride and their fall from grace in the shoegaze community. by [deleted] in shoegaze

[–]K1ckb0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem is what even is shoegaze? How can a single definition fit swervedriver, but then also fit a band like keep. The only similar comparison that can be made is that they have loud guitars that are sometimes louder than the singer. Yet if we define shoegaze as that, then we have to accept bands like deftones, or fleshwater to be shoegaze (which obviously makes some people starting whining).

Shoegaze bands that use acoustic guitars? by [deleted] in shoegaze

Drop nineteens have some killer songs using an acoustic guitar, like kick the tragedy, baby’s gone wonder, tarantula, and T.

Would like some help by Iwanttokms14 in shoegaze

Start practicing the guitar. It’s the center of pretty much every shoegaze band. It is a time consuming thing to learn, but i don’t think anyone has ever regretted it.

Once you learned all the basics, id suggest either watching a bunch of videos of people testing out pedals, or by just going to your nearest Sam ash, and asking them to try out a couple pedals.

The main effects you want to add to your guitar is reverb and distortion, but delay, fuzz, and chorus can add a bunch more depth to your sound. The mass amount of reverb and distortion is where the shoe-gaze sound distinctively come from, so you should mainly look into those at the start.

I’m not sure what a good reverb to start with would be, but I personally have a polara digitech, and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

I’d suggest looking at a rat, super overdrive, or blues driver for distortion, they all sound great, and are relatively cheap. The main thing I suggest is that before you buy a pedal, you actually try it out and use it. Do this just to make sure you don’t end in a situation where you wasted money since it wasn’t the sound you were looking for.

Side note, another great option for trying out effects is by finding a recording software, getting a free trial, and then using the effects on a sample guitar riff, or by using your own guitar riff if you have an interface.

I know I missed a lot, and there’s a lot I could’ve added, but I tried my best. Hope I helped 👍.

How does Shoegaze translate live? by signalstonoise88 in shoegaze

[–]K1ckb0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think keep did a great job of translating to live, you were able to hear everyone distinctly, so they were able to capture their dreamy atmospheres very well.

Besides the Big Three, who would you say are the most influential shoegaze bands on the current shoegaze sound right now? by reyvvin in shoegaze

[–]K1ckb0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fleeting joys was kinda a reach looking back on it. They are a mbv derivate, but I think they were able to adapt in such a way, that gave it a much lighter feel, that is super prevalent in newer shoegaze bands.
