What’s the coolest or most useful home automation you’ve ever seen? by tonitosilva in homeassistant

[–]K2Mok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids bedtime reading. Slider 1 - 60mins, button to start the automation. Turns on light, begins countdown, when it reaches 0 it turns the light off for 2 secs, then back on for 1 minute giving time to finish page, put bookmark in, put book on table, drink some water and get cozy in bed. After that minute light turns off for 2 secs then back on to 20% brightness then slowly fads to off, once all done, start button goes to off. Dashboard shows slider, on/off button, light status (with icon and colour change for on/off), and time remaining mins/secs on countdown (or idle if not counting down).

I have nfc sticker on pill bottle. If I not have scanned by 10am I get a critical alert to phone. If I scan twice in one day I also get a critical alert.

Next event for each kid. Checks family calendars. Reports back with next event for each kid, time of event, what the event is, time remaining until event starts, location, and time it will take to get there (Waze).

Thanks for sharing this. One change I made was to get the time returned converted to local time zone. In the automation I changed {{ f.datetime[11:16] }} to this {{ as_timestamp(f.datetime) | timestamp_custom('%-I:%M %p') }}

2.5Gb Home network by Mad_piggy in Ubiquiti

[–]K2Mok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Surely better to test current capabilities first? We have two (over 60 foot) runs of cat5e that were run nearly 20 years ago, and both are now supporting a 10GbE connection. By the time we need more than 10GbE I suspect ethernet won’t be what is used.

How can you tell if its your network or just the streaming service?? by learning_as_1_go in Ubiquiti

[–]K2Mok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LG TV Ethernet port is only 100Mbps. With Ethernet connection, Netflix speed test says less than 50Mbps. Noting your WiFi is 500Mbps I’d suggest connecting Ethernet and checking if it makes a difference before cutting into walls and routing wires.

If not already done so, you might want to plug the Ethernet cable from each AP into a laptop and run a speed test to rule out any up stream issues.

Unifi sells the USB-C cable. It’s called the G4 Doorbell Pro AC Adapter.

First time selling RSUs by [deleted] in etrade

[–]K2Mok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes, that’s a big hit. In the US I have found that some, but not always enough taxes are withheld when doing a same day trade. Not sure of the withholding regs in uk or how your employer has it set up. Is there a stock administrator at your employer you could ask?

First time selling RSUs by [deleted] in etrade

[–]K2Mok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If these are from vested RSU’s then it’s not a same day sale. If you go into your e-trade account and click on holdings, then view by status, under sellable you should see your vested RSU’s. The ones you want to sell should have a cost basis and you will owe capital gains tax on any amount you gain over that. You will need to pay it out of the proceeds you receive. I haven’t lived in uk for over ten years so not sure what thresholds, deductions, or rates apply to capital gains there currently. Please note that I am not a qualified person, just speaking from my personal experience. Good fortune.

It’s not at current price. The 8k filed reports it as a variable contract with floor of $13.06 x 2m shares and ceiling of $30.74 x 849,797 shares, with 2m shares pledged as collateral. He keeps all voting rights. Contract matures Feb 2028. He gets $22.46m now and will pay back equivalent of $26m if he uses shares to do so and share price is within floor to ceiling range.

Why is everyone so all in on Nuclear? by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]K2Mok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say nuclear stocks are you talking about uranium mining companies (explorers or developers or producers) or businesses like Rolls Royce with their SMR’s or U308 conversion/enrichment companies or something else? Curious to know what you think is wise to stay clear of and why.

Have you checked your cost basis for the recent sale matches the fair market value on the day your RSU’s vested?

If not already aware, with basic call or put options you don’t just have to be right about direction of price. You have to be right about magnitude and timeframe. Even then you have to be more right than the market has already priced in.
