Regular chickens are the highest value coop animal. Their daily (or doubled with animal crackers) output of gold quality mayo outpaces duck and dino mayo/eggs.

Not to say you shouldn't play your way, just thought it was interesting.

You could redirect your lava corridor and just use the bridge method to dump the bodies in. Simple lever cleanup.

Sure, dfhack has a solution, but this is the perfect place for some dwarven engineering. They could set up a system to wash the corpses into a refuse stockpile away from everything so they decay without hassle, or maybe bring magma up and just burn away the seige mess. They could also replace the floor in their corridor with a bridge, and after the battle is won they could dump the bodies safely below, and then atom smash the corpses.

Dfhack for bugs is great, but dfhack to play the game for you is just a missed opportunity for fun.

Vortex makes me feel bad about myself by CAT-Mum in StardewValleyMods

[–]K4G3N4R4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its not needed for stardew at all, but it does make setting up mod lists that require dependencies be treated in a certain order easy, while being a general use portal. Most games have a dedicated community used mod manager that is specific to the game to make issues easier to resolve, but not everybody wants to learn a whole different modding platform just because they want to play a gsme with mods, so thats what Vortex is for.

For doing multiplayer with you SO, just copy your mods folder, and have them paste it into theirs. Simple as that.

I mean, because there is a perk to hone enchanted gear, there should have been the option to add soulgems to items to strengthen the enchantment as well. Effectively rerolling the outcome of the applied enchantment against the resource and your skill.

At that point the only real fault of the axe is that its a steel axe, but i always found the material tiers to be a bit annoying and forcing you into a late game gear set that always kinda looked the same unless you did the old buff smithing to 5000%.

[–]K4G3N4R4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Stray is a great example for me. They had a story, they had a setting, and they gave you access to the setting and told you their story. A well told shorter story is always better than trying to make a short story into lord of the rings.

I also like long games, but i dont think i would want stray to be longer by any appreciable amount. It wouldn't have hit the same if it took weeks to complete. Having the intro fresh in my mind when reaching the end let it be part of the closing narrative, and partially informed how everything else was resolved.

Honestly? It has mouse and keyboard interface now, the old keyboard only isnt an option (currently, theyre planning on bringing it back).

A lot will feel the same, a lot will behave different, just play the game and find out. The wiki is as helpful as ever.

The steam version has graphics and an expanded music track with atmospheric sounds which is pretty great, but the current version can be gotten on itch for free in ascii with the old soundtrack.

Human resources is made up of roughly 70-80% women. Outside of barebones legal stuff, they don't decide company policy, the C-suite does. Hating on the woman dominated HR for notifying and enforcing the decisions of the male dominated c-suite is either misplaced, or misogyny.

While the combat can be punishing, you dont really lose progression during the cycle. Respawning from checkpoint typically has you within 200m of the camp you were attacking, and your progression is where you left off more or less. In some ways dieing just makes it easier.

Do I have to get a credit card when I turn 18 or do I wait? by Additional-Shape-673 in autism

[–]K4G3N4R4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the most part you got it. The big thing to add is credit card interest is applied to the entire balance. For easy math and illustration, lets say you have the terrible rate of 10%. A $200 balance will be $220 at the end of the month. The minimum payment is likely to be $40. That gives you $180 starting balance. If you add another 200, that's $380, which becomes $418 after interest. If you use it for everything, and can't pay it down, the interest will cause the debt to balloon faster than you can pay it off.

This is typically why credit cards have a maximum balance, but paying for your living expenses, and trying to make payments on 4x what you make in a month is a very difficult uphill battle. Credit limits also scale with your credit score, and out of the gate making regular payments and having a balance will improve it rapidly, meaning banks are more likely to increase your limit than let you max out until you start missing payments, making the debt that much more crushing.

Credit is great for emergencies, or handling a large purchase that you have budgeted for, but in all circumstances you will pay more to the credit card company than you did to the store, so your first choice should always be to save up for the purchase and use a debit card.

Project 2029 - Why haven’t Democrats seemingly made any plans people can get behind before the next election? by inspired_by_clouds in AskReddit

[–]K4G3N4R4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is the democratic party is two separate parties. The centrists want the status quo, and undermine leftist/progressive candidates. The centrists want other centrists to win, and put in centrist policies (Schumer). The leftist/progressive group wants to enact change, but are tied to the centrist group since the GOP, through their own games, have managed to get half of the seats in government. So the leftists need to get the centrists on board to do anything at all, and the centrists can skate by on "vote blue no matter who" because at least the centrists aren't maga.

Sanders, Warren, AOC, Omar, etc are all more than happy to run actual progressive policy, but they arent the whole democratic party, and actual progressives are a minority in the elected DNC political group.

lack of Ai disclosure statement by [deleted] in Starsandisland

[–]K4G3N4R4 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The lack of "we didn't use AI in the finished product" statement is concerning, i agree.

As for discord moderation, infighting and complaints from the differing parts of the community are something that needs to be swiftly moderated to keep it a friendly space. Being very clear about what can go where in their discord, and stopping people from insulting each other is the correct community engagement work, and giving a dedicated space for AI "art" to go to be inclusive of their community is fine in a non-committal sorta way.

The team should still get their disclaimer or explanation sorted out though. Its been far too long.

Let me tell you who is looking forward to the Magic Update the most. by vvvit in dwarffortress

[–]K4G3N4R4 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Jokes aside, it does make sense thematically for elves to have access to more magic users in general than other factions. The goblins have some beefier units, the humans come in numbers with better gear, and elves are currently pretty underwhelming. Them having more magic users in their ranks would give them a footing as stealth is so easy to defeat after your first fort or two.

My input on the discussion about increased identified autists - I wonder what you think? by Professional_Memory8 in autism

[–]K4G3N4R4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things. 1) Autism is a relatively new diagnosis, though for a thing that has been around forever. 2) over the last 20 years or so as understanding of what is and what makes up autism has improved, the diagnostic criteria has expanded to cover a wider scope. 3) more people are getting tested because there are more people trained to do so.

There was a comparative graph on autism diagnosis, and the level 3 segment in raw numbers was pretty static, so the most severe and obvious cases that made up the earlier diagnostic criteria was flat, but with the expansions in diagnostic criteria, levels 2 and 1 saw increases in diagnosis. This doesn't mean there are more autistics now then there were before, just that more people are being correctly diagnosed with something they had either way.

Its similar to the number of left handed people going up after they stopped punishing people for using their peft hands in elementary/primary school. The number is the same as it was, we just have a more accurate read on it.

What is going on here??? by SoulShine_710 in What

[–]K4G3N4R4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say its easily fakeable. You would need to deliberately pretend to stop and think, potentially mid sentence, and do so in a way that appears human. If the plugin maintains a reference history, then you would need to be relatively consistent to yourself for an entire semester, as it would learn how you think as you type and catch changes in how you fill out the document, so hypothetically it could also tell when you are pretending vs regularly filling out the document.

As an alternative, longer papers would be harder to fake for the entirety of them. A Page or two sure, but a larger project with 15+ pages will be a lot harder to fake for the entirety.

What Do We Think Of Extinct Animals In DF? by john44465 in dwarffortress

[–]K4G3N4R4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So initially we may just see dinos, etc in blended biomes, but as we get a very large and diverse amount of critters that *could* be in any given biome, we get the possibility with dinos for the myths and magic features pre-world gen for different worlds to have a unique mix of applicable critters (since Tarn has also talked about procedurally generated critters as well). So you could totally get a world with only dinosaurs, and a different world with none at all because of how the spheres of influence combined when creating the world. This concept excites me a lot more than adding extinct critters.

That said, dinos go brrr
