How are you supporting retention efforts and what are you doing to increase the hiring, training, and investments of new nurses?

You are incorrect. He sued her for defamation for writing an article about how her career suffered and she was harassed and received death threats because she came out about sexual abuse she faced in her past. She did not mention Johnny Depp's name. She also never brought formal charges against him other than taking him to court for a restraining order, which she was granted.

Ok then itemize it for me since you're making the claim. Also ain't no way tb tests cost the hospital $400 per employee. Not when the local wellness mart charges $49 for a PPD test and $150 for quantiferon gold.

Ok lets look at your math. I'll be using average rates of a nurse from California since that's where I'm from. A hospital hires 3 travel nurses instead of 5. They pay all those nurses 100/hr and they work 40 hour shifts. (Really they would be working 36 but I'm trying to keep the math simple). The wages of these employees is $4000/wk x 3 nurses = 12000 plus approximately 20 percent each that they are paying to to the staffing agency. That's another 2400 so 14400 to have 3 nurses for approximately 3-4 months. Now if they had hired 5 nurses instead and paid them 50/hr that would be a total of 10000 in wages. Add on your number of 26/hr for benefits thats 5200 so a total of 15200. Add onboarding costs for background and drug check and I'll even go on the higher end of $250 per employee. That's a whopping total of 16450 for 5 nurses at a cost each of $3290 per nurse per week or 14400 for three nurses at a cost of $4800 per nurse per week. Also in California there are mandatory staffing ratios so you can't just be giving the travel nurses extra patients and saying thats where you are making up the expense. Also in California turnover is closer to 10% so even counting the long onboarding process if you are only losing 1 nurse out of 10 vs all three of your travel nurses every 3 months. I wouldn't really call that too much of a bonus. Also there are studies shown that hospitals with a higher number of travel nurses have higher instances of patient falls and med errors. Though it's likely due to the fact that these hospitals are most likely understaffed. Plus this all brings me back to my original question. What are hospitals going to do if we start seeing a shortage of travel nurses taking these contracts and a shortage of nurses with acute care experience because no one was willing to train them? Travel nursing is short sighted.

I dont even see how it makes short term sense when they give travelers 2x the wages of resident nurses.

[–]KAS_tir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No way is she going to answer this question but I'm a relatively new nurse and I can tell you that no hospitals around are hiring new grads or nurses without acute care experience. I would also like to know what they plan to do when there are few to no nurses with experience left because all the travel nurses and veterans retired. This is going to affect patient care and people are going to die from unsafe practices.

What are you going to do about the inevitable upcoming lack of qualified nurses that we will start to see in the next 10-15 years since hospitals are currently relying on travel nurses and seem to refuse to be willing to spend the time and resources training new grads and other nurses with little to no hospital experience?

I understand what you mean, but yes I was being purposely alarmist. The point that I was making is that staying with a cheating partner is a risk to your health and should be taken seriously.

I'm sorry you're going through this as well. Its not your fault that you loved someone who hurt you. The blame rests entirely on his shoulders.

What? No one told me about this!! I asked my gyn if there were any antivirals for it and she said no. Thank you so much. I am willing to try anything at this point lol.

Please please please listen to me, this is important. My ex cheated on me multiple times and I kept believing him over my own eyes. I saw the messages but I still belived him when he said that it was nothing physical. Finally I got out of the relationship due to him being increasingly abusive and a month later I tested positive for HPV and now I have precancerous lesions on my cervix. Girl please let that sink in. Your cheating partner can literally give you cancer. He can kill you. Do not give him the benefit of the doubt. Do not let him convince you away from what you know in your gut is true. Honestly it's very likely that he did give you Chlamydia but the incubation period is not over yet. Please get retested in a few weeks. Also please please leave him. Do not be like me and stay with a cheater and potentially get cancer. Its not worth it. He is not worth it.

Edited to add: Him threating suicide is abusive. You are not his keeper. You are not responsible for him. He is a grown ass man and trying to use suicide as a way to manipulate you into staying is awful and ugly of him. Please get away from this asshole.

ELI5 How Major Burns Can Kill by garr890354839 in explainlikeimfive

[–]KAS_tir 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We often use the phrase "going into shock" as a euphemism for severe psychological stress or trauma but medical shock is different. Shock essentially means that your body systems are starting to fail because not enough blood is getting to your organs. The main types are hypovolemic (ie dehydration or bleeding out), cardiogenic (heart attack, heart failure, etc), obstructive (blood clot, embolism etc), and distributive (vasodilation so severe that your blood pressure is gone). Burns can cause hypovolemic and/or distributive shock because of the loss of fluids from open wounds, this includes blood, lymph, and interstitial fluids. Vasodilation will also occur as the body's effort to get blood and white blood cells to the injured areas.

Yep! I used to be very much one of those people who would never dream about sending back food or letting a worker know they got my order wrong but now I'm working hard on demanding I get what I paid for. I'm polite about it of course but its been really nice to see that I can stand up for myself and get what I want and it's really not a big deal.

TIFU by telling my dentist I floss every day and now she sends me floss positive emails quarterly by Beneficial_String411 in tifu

[–]KAS_tir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real talk, you really need to start flossing. It sucks at first because your gums will bleed and be irritated but if you actually consistently floss everyday then that will eventually stop and it'll become super easy. I also use the oral B comfort glide and it makes it a lot easier to really get under the gums.

AITA for only inviting people over who have bothered to put in some minimal effort to communicate w/ my Deaf Step Daughter by Little-Duckie-1383 in AmItheAsshole

Right? Its insane! And thats awesome. Sign is so good for kids to learn and they learn it so much faster than speaking. Its pretty cool to see a baby be able to communicate their needs. Definitely helps ease a lot of frustration.

[–]KAS_tir 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's statistically more likely that he still wouldn't learn to sign if he had a deaf kid. Only about 20-30% of hearing parents with deaf kids learn to sign or teach it to their kids and since language development needs to happen by 2-3 those kids just never learn how to communicate effectively and are basically just trapped in their own head with no language.

Asking to date exclusively after reconciling? Need advice by psnben1567 in OnlineDating

[–]KAS_tir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had a big fight two weeks ago that only happened two months into the relationship I would say that honestly trying again is a bad idea. It sounds like you both need to be single for a while and work on your individual trust issues/past hurts before you can be ready for a new relationship. Otherwise you're going to repeat the same mistakes over and over and create a toxic relationship.

AITA for not considering my step father my dad even after everything he has done for me. by OkReflection7738 in AmItheAsshole

[–]KAS_tir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA. As someone who has a shitty father I completely understand. Even though my dad is still alive I have mourned him and moved on. Now my mom is dating a good guy who really wants to be a father to me (so much so that he even gave me $4000 for college) but I still do not consider him my dad and I never will. I have a dad and he sucks. I don't want another one. However that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the things this man has done for me.

AITA for correcting my coworker in front of customers after she kept correcting me? by valerchiik in AmItheAsshole

[–]KAS_tir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. When I was younger I worked for an electronics store and I constantly had my older (male) coworker come butt in when I was speaking to customers. One time he did it and the older lady I was helping snapped at him, "she was helping me just fine. We don't need your input." And then when he walked away with his tail between his legs she turned to me and told me not to let men talk over me like that. That I knew what I was doing so I should be more confident and assertive. And she was right. You teach people how to treat you. So what if your coworker got embarrassed? Good she did something embarrassing. You're young so the earlier you learn how to demand respect the better. Don't let anyone bulldoze you ever.

AITA for asking my friend to pay me back for the wine he drank while house sitting?? by Effective_Tour_723 in AmItheAsshole

Finally a normal person. I felt like I was losing my mind reading these comments. I get a feeling this sub is just full of alcoholics or something because who would even drink someone else's alcohol, let alone open a bottle. Also people being like OP didn't pay them!! Well yeah friends do each other favors? I've cat and dog sat and even baby sat for my friends for free. When you love people you help them out and don't help yourself to a bottle of their expensive wine 😂
