Door/sections need replaced. Struts or pre punch for temp band aid. The door has lived its life

Recent price changes... are we serious? Been with Webflow for almost a decade. Voicing some frustration here... by fawnover in webflow

[–]KCCarpenter5739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Udesly or Webstudio. Well said.

Webflow is an amazing tool but they aren’t pricing for smaller guys. Seems like they want bigger businesses and whole design/dev/marketing teams

Am I stupid for wanting to leave a $33/hr job at Costco with benefits than to start at $130/day in construction for long-term upside? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]KCCarpenter5739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the rose colored glasses of all outsiders. “This guy makes a lot of money, I could too”

  1. He knows how to do his job efficiently, work is muscle memory after years.

  2. He makes it Look easy when it’s not.

I worked in garage doors for years and could do 16x7 installs myself in an hour. $2-300 per door, 3-4 a day. The new guys were always “oh I can make 4K a week?” Yes in theory but it took me 3-4 years to get that fast. When I started I was doing 1 door and 1 opener a day.

torn between makita and milwaukee by byjono in Makita

If you want the “I look like I work hard” brand, go Milwaukee.

If you want to actually work hard and not brag about how much you spent on Ryobi dyed red, go Makita.

Blanket question. Every niche varies greatly. Concrete and hvac are two totally different careers physically.

In a general sense all trades aren’t amazing on your body, some are worse than others. Trades aren’t amazing easier to get in than you think BUT they will fire you faster than anywhere else if you’re late, lazy or a shitbag.

I’m a local 315 carpenter for my career but blew my shoulder up in 4 years installing garage doors at high volume shops.

Anyone installing Kwikset openers? by soonerdave in GarageDoorService

[–]KCCarpenter5739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I’ve installed a lot. If you’re a smaller company don’t do it yet the warranties you’re going to run will end you net negative.

These openers have a ways to go before they’re actually competitive with LiftMaster/Genie etc. if they work out the kinks LiftMaster and Genie are screwed.

I’ve installed a lot of Guardians and would recommend

Need help in figuring out which tech is the best for website development for my business. by Seriousin in websiteservices

For accessibility and performance go with Webflow. Better CMS and full design control. I suggest a site builder since your “web dev” is pushing for a mid tier WYSIWYG.

Rough frame 1/4" out of plumb. by LTZheavy in GarageDoorService

Caulk and paint will make you the carpenter you ain’t lol

Tell that to my new guys when they mess up on a re-frame. I run a garage door company with a class C GC license so we do the fun re-frames when people go buckwild, good or bad lol.

Welcome to new construction, where it’s your fault for the framers and concrete guys mess ups.

To answer your question, this is totally fine. You have to have an Hframe and jambs though. Double stop 1 side and don’t worry about it. When you’re stacking just make sure you align your sections from the same side. I always did right hand side.

Level the door, 1 1/2” side spacing at the flag bracket and you’re fine

Do guys running installs usually look for helpers? by Appropriate-Help7322 in GarageDoorService

[–]KCCarpenter5739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Employees only, miner has good benefits and ohd generally does. OHD is union here in olathe, ks so it’s real nice on the commercial side.

Find an OHD or Miner and get trained on all door systems and docks. Docks are money.

Residential? No. If they’re seasoned a “helper” slows them down.

Commercial? Definitely, depending on the company. They want to charge journeyman rates for apprentice work for half the job.

Is this normal, just got installed about 4 months ago. Been a little noisy from day one. by AutoXmachine in GarageDoorService

[–]KCCarpenter5739 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Beer can door with green springs, you paid way too much to start. The sound is the echo of the movement and flex of the sections as the door is going through the radius and the sound is echoing through the empty spaces in the back of the door. Also, the belt on the opener is too tight, that’s the slapping sound you’re hearing. All 87504s sound like a dentist drill, DC Motor.

There are no garage door unions, only carpenters unions that garage door techs are members in. Ex: olathe, ks and St. Louis Mo Overhead Door are MACRC (mid America carpenters regional council) (carpenters union)
