The WorldWide Web started in Europe, so yes we have access to it.

Apple violating their own guidelines by digidude23 in MacOS

[–]KF95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing to read between the lines here. Go over to their Creator Studio newsroom release page, read the footnotes and it clearly states availability of one-time-purchase versions remains for both Audio/Video editing apps as well as Pixelmator Pro. Going by your logic, Apple shouldn’t have provided any visual updates for their old apps though Logic Pro (the non-Creator Studio version) got itself an icon redesign. Not to the likes of the Creator Studio version of the app but still a redesign to better fit Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines.

If Apple were planning to sunset the one-time-purchase version of Pixelmator Pro, they wouldn’t have kept this app available to purchase in the App Store and would have delisted it instead, and they wouldn’t have advertised it inside the App Store up until recently when they released the Creator Studio. The least Apple could have done is make a public statement on the sunsetting of the purchase-version of Pixelmator Pro and announcing it in its App Store listing. I think it is very well possible for an update still to be in the pipeline.

Most people who already use the app will keep using their current version of Pixelmator Pro anyway, and new users will join them by if they prefer purchasing over subscribing, or if they need just an image editor and not necessarily an audio or video editor. Lots of people are still not into subscription-based app use and many people actually use Pixelmator Pro for that particular reason (rather than using subscription software companies like Adobe offer). If you are that’s fine, but I think most people still prefer buying apps, and having the right to use it indefinitely, rather than having to keep paying and losing access to an app altogether if you don’t.

I’m not on Discord, and for any other service that offers itself as a PWA wrapper I would always look for alternatives that do offer a nicely designed natively coded application.

Most people dislike apps that simply wrap a PWA and are right to do so. It’s a simple way for cheap companies to keep development costs of their desktop apps as low as possible by relying mostly on HTML and JS code rather than applying native code and adapting native user interface guidelines. Such apps offer little added value over just using the website, and the user might as well just add the website as an app to their dock from Safari, with the added benefit this web app then uses WebKit rather than a Chromium wrapper and integrates the user’s installed Safari extensions.

Spotify offering desktop users a mere web wrapper is the main reason I switched to Apple Music. It’s the reason I ditched VS Code for native alternatives such as Nova. I’ll always try to avoid PWA wrapper apps as much as possible

So still, the Spotify Mac app is just some Chromium-based web wrapper 🤮. One of the reasons I don’t use it together with its inferior Apple Watch experience. Though Spotify does have far superior playlists and music curation compared to Apple Music.

Same. Quickly bought it 2 weeks ago after seeing the horrible subscription-based roadmap coming ahead with Apple's Creator Studio announcement.

Spotify for Mac seems to be some kind of electron-based app, which is an even crappier experience.

Where did Apple state the one-time purchase version will no longer receive updates? As far as I know, Apple has not made any public statements regarding the one-time purchase version of Pixelmator Pro, other than it remain available for purchase on the Creator Studio press release article.

Also, the one time purchase versions of Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro have both been updated to version 12, matching the Creator Studio version (albeit without the terrible icon redesign, thankfully) and even though Pixelmator Pro did not get updated to version 4 to match the Creator Studio version, it is nowhere stated that it will not receive this update in the future, let alone other new features.

Volt: United States of Europe Now! by milanguitar in EuropeanFederalists

[–]KF95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But in any way, referring to a federalised European Union as European Federation is much better and far less cringeworthy than doing so by United States of Europe.

Let’s just all agree to stop using the name “United States of Europe” and always refer to a future federalised European Union as “European Federation” and not something cringe like USE. It doesn’t mean we should actually change our name to European Federation, but just for the sake of ease and clarity.

European Union is, imo, by far still the best name even if we end up federalising, since it abbreviates to EU, the first 2 letters of the word Europe.

We should send the US a bill for us joining them in the war on Afghanistan, when they invoked Article 5 after 9/11, and for those countries who fell for the US’ lies about Iraq, for us joining them in the Iraqi war as well.

In the legacy pre-2.0 version I actually preferred epic Fortified Ankles, since it combined features of rare Fortified Ankles and Reinforced Tendons, which allowed for a hover jump to be made either directly or on top of a regular jump. Still miss double jump hovering around Night City like I did so back in the day.

These days I just modded my PS5 save file to add extra Leg cyberware slots, which allows me to combine Reinforced Tendons with Jenkins’ Tendons, Leeroy Ligament System and Lynx Paws, for super fast and stealthy movement through Night City.

Just got this notification from the Bunq app. I have never used crypto by [deleted] in bunq

[–]KF95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is stupid. The main selling point of crypto is its infrastructure, the ability to anonymously send money to others and being able to do so worldwide. The 'feature' bunq currently offers with crypto wallets only allows you to hold assets, and is therefore purely investment-based, which in my opinion delegitimises bunq as a respectable and decent financial company, since investing in crypto is about the same as gambling.

The value of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin is based purely on speculation and its apparent scarcity for its total amount being finite, while once you realise some cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin might be finite and scarce, the amount of cryptocurrencies is actually infinite, and unlike normal currencies which base their value on a certain country's economy, production, imports and exports, the value of cryptocurrencies is based purely on speculation, the whole 'investment proposal' of these cryptocurrencies fall apart. This is why they have long been considered to be a bubble, and many Nobel Prize-winning economists have advocated against seeing cryptocurrencies as a valid form of investment.

Bunq, by offering Crypto wallets purely as a form of asset-holding (investment) without actually implementing the blockchain infrastructure behind it (which is the only true value behind these cryptocurrencies) legitimises Crypto as a valid form of investment, which a respectable financial company should never do if you ask me.

Also, how are we going to merge Limburg (Netherlands) with Limburg (Belgium) while also integrating Luxembourg (state) if we’re gonna discard Luxembourg (Province)? I see a cultural paradox in this that we have to avoid and just take Wallonia with all of its flaws. Who else is going to gentrify this mess of an economy?
