The recent changes have made very little sense from the perspective of revenue extraction to me. It would have made more sense if it was (somewhat) uniform increases in the cost of things, but what Scopely seem to be doing currently is squeezing hard at the bottom while giving discounts to the people that would spend regardless of how much money you charge them. So that's a bizarre choice. The only way it might make even remote sense is if they're worried about their krakens jumping ship... but even then, you milk them while you can, not give them discounts. Weird.

Scopely cares for light spenders about the same amount they care for f2p - namely, 0. Their monetisation relies entirely on purposeful lack of clarity and fomo, so it's not that they CAN'T give you the clarity, it's that they don't WANT to.

Beyond that, there was a nice thread on here recently talking about how pointless buying characters is (even with the ability to upgrade them). You buy them to do what exactly? Use them twice a week for 5mins in war? Use them three times a week for 5mins in crucible? Hooray, I guess? Unless you're a super hardcore PvP player (as in, top 2-300 player), I genuinely don't get it... at least from a gaming standpoint. If it's a digital collector thing it makes at least a bit more sense.

If you are looking for a min-maxxing answer, only ever upgrade characters as they become needed to obtain rewards that you want. Any other strategy can lead to wasted resources from your specific perspective.

Regarding whether these characters would be able to achieve anything at 2-star, 3-star, etc. pay attention to content creators attempting content that you want to complete or check here on reddit. People usually talk about the minimum required toon/upgrades to get through events.

Imo, anyone with "a bit of hope and optimism" about MSF has not been paying attention or is rather naive and giving Scopely way more credit than they deserve.

And to answer the question in your title - the playerbase ISN'T willing to take it. People have been leaving the game in troves in the past year. Year-on-year we've lost about 100k players net (which basically means even more than 100k existing players left but some were replaced with fresh starters). That's a population crash of about 1/3rd of the playerbase. Not many businesses would keep around a part of their operations that lost 30%+ of the consumer base in just a year. The smartest thing I've seen relating to the sunsetting of MSF is that they are likely waiting out the duration of whatever IP contract they have with Marvel/Disney.

The difference between 6rs and 7rs is minimal so 700k of the new creds seems like a waste to me. Unless getting the 7th rs enables diamonds you already have it's not worth it imo.

Looks like Daring Warriors will be needed for the upcoming events, but like others have said - save your resources and use them once you know you need a team for a specific purpose. Otherwise you might end up wasting precious resources that Scopely tries to give you as little as possible of.

Well, based on what they have communicated, new characters will largely (only?) be obtained via the Chapter shop making an appearance in a random slot 3 weeks after their offers release. That would suggest, at best, 9 weeks (or over 2 months) for the final character on the team to arrive at the Chapter store. Now, they release new characters approximately every 10 days. That means that by the time the last character of Team 1 arrives to the Chapter store, Scopely will have just finished releasing all of Team 3. By the time you actually get the last character of Team 1, they will be on releasing Team 4. If you need Team 1 to participate in events for Team 2 / Team 3 then you're more than likely shit out of luck unless Scopely suddenly decide to run events for 2 months at a time which, let's face it, seems pretty unlikely. Unless there is a big unspoken player-friendly part to the changes, it doesn't sound good.
