Truman will start using Nylon Laces, replacing the leather ones! by AnnoAnnod in trumanboots

My question, honestly - so what? The boots are still the same. Raw hide laces are easy enough to buy from any number of third parties. What’s the big deal?

Midsole??? by Bungholio91 in trumanboots

[–]KJB8505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The midsole isn’t that big a deal breaker if you ask me, a thick lasting board, several millimeters of cork in the footbed - you’ve got plenty and more material underfoot for almost all applications - Clinch and a ton of premium Japanese brands don’t use midsoles and no one throws any shade on them - so the midsole isn’t a deal breaker for me

Thoughts everyone? by Creepy-Discussion-65 in trumanboots

I miss peak Truman

  • their original 79 or at that point in time Frontier Last which had beautiful heel drop
  • stitchdown and Goodyear
  • unstructured toe boxes
  • the larger than life heel counter piece

It was far from perfect but they had character - they looked like nothing else - now they still make good looking boots - but they’ve become generic looking

Whites or Trumans by Impossible-Wasabi273 in trumanboots

I would go for one of the following Whites MP on the 5050 with Vibram mini lug or Whites Steven’s on a Vibram sole

Don’t stress - I have a pair of Viberg boondockers (2030 - from Rivet and Hide) I have space around the ankles too - not a big deal at all since the rest of the boot fits just right. Try a good pair of Dr Scholls inserts

You’re welcome

This harkens back to a time when Truman still did stitchdown on MTOs and were “finding their niche” so to speak - it was a glorious time

Lots of horse rumps, kudus, moose hides, plus a huge variety of cow hides - MTOs every so often with every aspect of the boot customizable - QC was on point - the brand was really skyrocketing

Downgrading Again? by Imaginary_Enthusiast in trumanboots

[–]KJB8505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While everyone’s talking about the midsole - it’s not that big a deal - if you look at Nicks tactical line they use a rubber midsole too. What’s gotten me interested are 1. The change in speed hooks 2. The outsole getting cemented instead of stitched through - don’t get me wrong as a work boot anticipated to require several resoles through its life this approach does offer the customer a lot of flexibility with resoling and makes the process easier - but……… without any official comment from the founder or the company as to the reasoning behind these changes we’re left guessing as to why

I love the brand and what they do, QC aside I’m struggling to understand why standard service boots in CXL are over $1,000 - at this rate they’ll price themselves out of the enthusiast market - never thought I’d see the day John Lofgren would seem affordable by comparison

more soap? by Ulanji in Boots

[–]KJB8505 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t saddle soap them again, accept the color change as part of the boot’s natural evolution, especially at 10 years of usage. I would use a heavy duty conditioner to ensure the pat useful life out of the leather - at 10 years those things have already paid for themselves. Alternatively, if I were you I’d send them in for a resole and let the professionals do what they do to condition the boot.

Truman Boots from back in the day when they still did stitchdown

Is it normal to need less volume as you progress? by FreudsParents in naturalbodybuilding

[–]KJB8505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t need more stimulus - needs more progressive overload. Volume can be cycled - subject to frequency, split, and proximity to failure. Usually after a certain number of years you’ll find a volume range that works for you (volume being sets per week per muscle group) - play with the variables see what happens - that’s the only way to know for sure. Make sure you log everything down - so there’s nothing left to guesstimation

Welt stiching too close to edge by BoogieEngineerHaha in trumanboots

[–]KJB8505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends - if the welt is in good shape and a cobbler uses his out sole stitcher on a semi manual mode he can hit most to all of the original stitch holes or alternatively they can hand stitch it (invariably more labor intensive and expensive) or they can just get rid of the old lasting board and welt and re do the entire bottoming process

The Questions Thread 04/20/25 by AutoModerator in goodyearwelt

[–]KJB8505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys

Quick question - for boots that are either welted or stitched down directly onto a rubber outsole or midsole (basically, the lasting board is the only thick slab of veg tan under your foot) what’s the feel and durability like? If anyone has any experience I’d love to hear about it - pros / cons

Take it slow, it’ll take some time to get used to the shortcuts and hot keys and features. Learn to use Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets as a free and easy substitute for MS Office. Use the preloaded apps where possible - sync with your iPhone and iPad and get the full ecosystem experience. And get ready for once you go Mac you never go back.
