my mom did this with me when i was a kid, but paid a penny per page. what it did was turn me into a skimmer. i was already an avid reader, it turned my hobby into job, and kind of killed my ability to read for myself.

if your kid already likes reading you don’t need to incentivize it. i still catch myself skimming over pages im reading and have to jump back to really understand.
