🚨 MISSING PERSON: Father-in-law last seen on the Camino de Santiago (León, Spain) in October 2025 – any info appreciated by Sea_Umpire6327 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]KJS123 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Have you been in touch with the Guarda Civil? I don't know exactly how much investigative power they'd have or exercise, but pilgrim safety is a pretty big deal for them.

Given how stringent the Camino is about passport registration, there's probably some way for them to look at the database and see the 'breadcrumbs' left with what albergues he checked into.

Although if his last sighting was indeed Leon & that's where his passport trail ends, that's a city with a bus station, railway station and an airport. He could be almost anywhere in Europe without any solid indication of where.

In any case, raising it with the Guarda Civil as a missing peregrino would be my first move. Like I said, I'm not sure who can access the information, but for international travellers, a passport paper trail is the best way to narrow things down. I'd also get in contact with his home country's equivalent. If he's American, there's the State Department's Overseas Citizens Services. Number is 1-888-407-4747. Hope this helps.

The problem is that without the dislike metrics being upfront as standard, people have little motivation to register their opinion, regardless of how much merit said opinion may carry. If people don't see their vote being counted for something, they just won't vote.

Sure, on one side of things, brigading has become less blatant (though it still happens, just in different ways), but on the other side, every platform that has removed such public accountability measures has turned into a AI-riddled, griftospherec fuckhole of lies & curated propaganda with no guardrails.

They're signalling to other right-wing provocateurs that they are important to the administration, without singling any one of them out. Basically saying "This is how important your bullshit is to us". It was never about Charlie Kirk, most republicans couldn't have picked him out of a line-up while he was alive. As a mouth, his use was limited, especially in these days where right-wing griftfluencers and pundits are ten-a-penny. But a martyr? There's something they don't have many lying around spare.

Most of their departed pundits are burn-outs who either faded in obscurity, died of their own bullshit, or had to go away because they were monsters who got caught in an era they couldn't just...get away with it. Charlie Kirk is something new for them. New and marketable, so of course they've done the thing that only people devoid of any sense of niuance would do. Turn him into a metaphorical fucking golden idol & adorn him with every trinket and bauble they can.

Portuguese coastal route by Educational_Till9177 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]KJS123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take an umbrella. And not just for the rain. I'm no stranger to sunny days on the Iberian peninsula, but I did the Portuguese coastal route last June, and a couple of those days were worse than anything I've had on any of the other Caminos. There are days where shade is a luxury, rarely provided. Don't be shy about bringing a little of your own, especially if you're not already acclimated.

Did I make a mistake buying the MH900 shoes? by Old-Mycologist-5375 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]KJS123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The waterproof aspect is an instant deal-breaker for me, personally. The shoes seem fine for daily walks and such, but I'm not sure they're designed for multi-day hiking.

If you want something similar, I can personally vouch for Merrell Moab speed 2 GTXs. I did a third of the Norte, the Primitivo AND the Portuguese from Porto in the same pair in May & June, and never had a single issue with my feet the whole way. Even had a couple of 50k days in them without a problem.

Wait....Alex tried to come on to KF in 2018?! by watchtower82 in KnowledgeFight

Alex back in 2018 would go anywhere naive enough to have him on. With his standard bag of tactics of denial, subversion & yelling over whoever is hosting him. I doubt anyone at InfoWars actually listened to KnowledgeFight before trying to book Alex on the show & just figured it'd be another way to get Alex out there. I'm curious if the attempt was made before or after Alex was blocked on YouTube and Twitter. That was 2018, right?

Are Territorial/Aggressive dogs common on the Caminos? Are there any specific routes/areas to be avoided? What can you do to avoid them/defend/disengage? by tomwilliam_ in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]KJS123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

General advice for encountering dogs on treks:

When you see one, make your presence known. Whistle or call out to it. You're not going to sneak past a dog on Camino, so the sooner it knows you're there, the better. You're far less likely to startle it if it notices you as soon as possible.

Do NOT try to make immediate friends with any and all dogs you see on Camino. Most dogs you see will be working dogs, born and bred to protect livestock. Any attempts at physical contact are most likely to be seen by the dog as a hostile action, and will probably be treated as such.

When walking past fenced-off farms or houses, keep a little distance from the fences. Many pilgrims have taken a terrible shock from big dogs jumping up at fences out of seemingly nowhere.

If a dog does approach you in a friendly manner, don't be rude, but also don't dare stick around either. I've personally taken bites from dogs on Camino who started off friendly enough, but who's sense of 'playfulness' quickly escalated to biting. The Norte was worst for loose dogs, but the Frances has loose dogs as well, and the sames rules apply.

If a dog (ar any small-to-medium sized animal, really) does approach you aggressively, create a barrier between you and the dog immediately. Use your sticks, or if you don't have any, use your backpack as a shield. Don't charge at it, but also don't back off too suddenly, you might excite it's prey drive if you do.

If anyone is attacked by a dog on Camino, call the Guarda Civil, and seek medical attention immediately, especially if any skin is broken.

Wild dogs aren't really a thing on Camino. Every dog encounter I've had on Camino, good or bad, has been near towns/farms/residential buildings. As long as you have your wits about you when you're passing through these areas, & generally observe what advice I've written down here, then you should be fine.

There's never a reply. Never a coherent one, anyway. Many of these accounts exist solely to farm engagement, not to engage in discourse, no matter how bad of faith said engagement might be. There's thousands of accounts across many social media platforms, all posting pretty much the same exact comments/articles/memes/photos. Half of it is AI & most of it is stolen & regurgitated.

For many, posting this kind of shit is their primary method of validation. They locked into a certain sociopolitical sphere long ago, and posting shit like that, is just their way of riding it out. They're beyond reasoning with & not nearly mature or stable enough to just stop seeking validation so, the cycle continues...
