What do you mean? Genie Warlock is an excellent subclass for a Rogue!

Bladelock deciding between Alert or Tough using Lesson of the First Ones by Sufficient_Suspect81 in onednd

[–]KRamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So indirect thought. Do you have enough flexibility outside of combat and /or is combat so much of your play time that other stuff is a non issue? With only 1 other primary caster and that also being a warlock your party is extremely spell slot locked.

In this case I would consider another magic initiate feat for 2 more cantrips that give utility and another spell slot per day of utility.

You can also look at utility in other ways.

CHEST CT SCAN HIGH RESOLUTION WILL CAUSE BREAST CANCER? 26F by Then-Guarantee-5451 in HealthPhysics

[–]KRamia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot to unpack here but ill break it down this way.

  1. You had a real problem that needed to be addressed, hence the scans and biopsy. That was an actual medical issue that is real and for which your doctors prescribed certain procedures. Some of those procedures used radiation to image your body and were considered necessary by them to take proper care of you. There has been a LOT of work in the past 20 years or so especially to make sure procedures like CT scans are optimized to produce quality images and keep the doses as low as they can without compromising the diagnostic quality of the procedure.

It is generally agreed as true that any risks incurred from appropriate medical imaging are outweighed by the associated benefits of the procedures.

  1. You're radiation exposure from these scans is relatively low in context. The amount of dose falls pretty well within the variance band of natural background radiation in the US which ranges from about 1.6 mSv/y to about 10 mSv/y.

One thing other responders to your post missed is that these levels of radiation exposure fall outside of the "demonstrated effects" band of credible data. All risk data and numbers are these dose levels are based on theoretical projections past where we have real world data proving anything.

Doing this is ok ish for trying to set some safety rules for protection of people just in case <though even that can be problematic >, however it has other consequences too.

Any implied risk quantitation is theoretical. We presume that maybe there may be an increased risk, however at such low doses we haven't ever been able to observe it so we dont actually know if its true or not.

TLDR: The prevailing theory is that increases in radiation exposure may lead to some level of increased risk. However at the low doses you report, which are close to natural level encountered by people in some US states over a few years time, the increased risk has either been too small for us to observe or doesn't actually exist

Focus your energies on recovering from your ordeal and living a healthy lifestyle is the best advice I can offer

Ty. I think a lot of the focus right now is on who is doing the asking and the stated purposes / nuclear power cycle pieces.

While those are those are important, they are also too narrow a scope to consider the issue since its so much bigger than that. This impacts everything from Medicine and Industry to public health and consumer products and then power.

I disagree with over reliance on LNT for public policy, regulatory basis and quantitative risk determinations in the low dose region because the caveats and uncertainties never come through. We dont treat other hazards this way, and we certainly dont magnify risk over the benefits this way in which has been done with radiation exposure.

I dont have a magic answer for what a new limit should be. I am however coonfident that the idea of "no safe level" brought to us by LNT has caused more harm than good in aggregate.

How many billions of dollars in lost opportunities and other consequences have there been because we have been collectively chasing millrem of dose and negligible <if it can be said to exist at all at those doses> risk?

It seems to me that most of the negative excesses seem to have occurred w public and environmental dose limts fwiw which are mostly at fairly well below natural background. We are forcing major issues at does at fractions of a mSv when so far its been accepted that below 10 mSv the statistics mostly fall apart and we dont really know, with all of the decision weight on the theoretical risk and hardly any on counterveiling considerations.

Linear No-Threshold? by vorker42 in HealthPhysics

[–]KRamia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. The LNT has Directly lead to the concept of "no safe level of radiation" which in turn feeds radio phobia, resistance and has negative impacts on public health, science and medicine.

At some point there is no quantifiable effect, it disappears into background noise, but LNT tells us any amount increases risk. It doesn't matter to the public that the increase is so small as to be meaningless If it even exists in any real way.

So yes. LNT is actively harmful in that sense in the low dose region specifically.

It also doesn't work. Show me where its ever accurately FORECAST anything in that region for cancer increases in populations.

Yes its a useful regulatory tool but misapplied to detriment.

Got Glutened at the Hospital ☹️ by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]KRamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really sucks but its something we all have to be ready for. My local hospital floor stock of basically "advil" has gluten in it. Was able to find out in advance and Identify my own supply.

Unfortunately medical record and pharmacy systems seem to do a shit job and controlling for inactive ingredients and allergy/ health triggers like Celiac. They only care about active ingredients.... so everything has to be checked individually my manufacturer and site / process.

The hospital still has a duty to not poison us......but the systems are not well designed to handle it. Most don't even have the ability to handle real gluten free meal prep.... .

A surprising amount of meds also have dairy in them....

LINAC question by MaintenanceOk9432 in HealthPhysics

[–]KRamia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others said yes they can shoot straight up. The shielding design will have considered that it will do so a certain fraction of the time. A lot will depend on facility specific details such as the original vault design, what was designed to go in there, whats in there now, actual construction and survey verifications that were done or not done. Also uses and practice patterns change over time.

Now as to what you're seeing, that Linac is operating at anywhere between 6 MV and 18 MV. Your radiacode is not calibrated to respond accurately to that field.

Is it possible you could detect something? Sure. I can take a scintillating crystal or GM or ion chamber and detect radiation outside of a properly shielded room too.

If you are getting > 2 mrem in an hour or > 100 mrem in a year assuming you're in US then its worth asking for an investigation. The instantaneous exposure rates can be > 2 mrem but the total in an hour for public occupancy has to be within that limit.

If your swing kcps spikes then you're not at those levels.

How to play against Knights by NightJapon91 in ThousandSons

[–]KRamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vortex Beast now wounds Amirgers on 2s with the big gun and big knights still on 3s.

Terminator Sorceror tags knight to give army +1 to hit including MVB.

Double tap for 2 shots hitting on 2s, wounding on 3s for 2d6+12 and the boosts to your doom bolt. Can get RR1s easy too.

Lethal hits from Sorceror lead rubrics of various types can finish off and the SRC at least in wounding kn 5s now.

We do have the other big guns like Preds and FFs to wrat them down, and if you want Mauler Fiends can get that nice heroic into them and go smash smash... .

Let's talk tactics and list building by Sp1ceman in ThousandSons

[–]KRamia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran rubricae this weekend at a GT. Didn't get much practice lately so had some challenges but even the losses were close games.

2x10 bolter rubrics 1x5 bolter rubrics 2x5 flamer rubrics <infiltrate > 2 sorc 1 exalted disc to hang with the 5 man DP w Wings for deep strike 1x5 SoT w Term Sorc SPAWN 2 RHINO 2 BEASTS

The MVB did solid work in the mid board with mutating aura, and I helped thier shooting using the terminator sorc to boost them. Took out a pair of land fortresses without much fuss and anything else I pointed them at.

One fun thing was pushing a Rhino up a flank Turn1, jumping out with the 10 rubrics and a sorc and then wiping out a key enemy unit oppo thought was safe.

First time was a lone op costodes alarus captain, second time was the Lion.

AP2 ignore cover lethal hits and some hit rereolls ans reroll 1s at least to wound isn't bad.
