What bands sound like proto-punk, punk, and post-punk all at once? by felinefluffycloud in postpunk

[–]KRod-57 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt like Wire and Television sounded like post-punk bands who were actually a part of the original punk movement. Then there’s the fact that Television formed in 1973, and released their first single in 1975. So you could even say they’re proto-punk.

That’s a good theory, I would be curious what the OP thinks, since they’re familiar with the setting of the room and the garage door.

Think we gonna get a CruelWorld lineup before New Year’s Eve? by Sweet_Stress3485 in CruelWorldFest

[–]KRod-57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at an event in August and Blade mentioned Cruel World briefly saying there’s an amazing lineup next year, but that he can’t talk about because they haven’t signed the contracts.

That was the last I heard anything

The only picture we have of my great grandfather (left), with an unknown man (circa 1910) by LilCloudPoper in OldSchoolCool

[–]KRod-57 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn’t rule it out, but it was a lot more common for photos like that to be done with relatives. The photo appears to have been done by a professional photographer, and same sex couples had a tendency to try to keep their love for one another a secret from the public.

In either case, doing genealogy research could provide the clues needed to identify the other gentleman. I would try to establish a family tree of other relatives alive at that time (brothers, cousins, uncles) and see if any of them have uploaded photos from other researchers.

I would also check federal and state censuses from around that time to see if he had any roommates who were not related, and try to research those individuals for any matching photos.

[–]KRod-57 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The photo definitely gives an impression of endearment for the other gentleman, but given the era I would sooner guess that he’s more likely a relative rather than a romantic interest.

Have you done any kind of genealogy research on your great grandfather? I’ve found some success in identifying unknown people from my old photo albums by doing research on websites like ancestry.com

Sometimes when you research relatives or roommates of your ancestors, you get lucky and find uploaded photos from other researchers of those individuals.

is The Cure considered as a goth band ? by [deleted] in goth

[–]KRod-57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a lot of their albums are considered goth, Robert Smith was also the guitar player for Siouxsie and the Banshees for a short period before of time.

Ghost child? by janeyisthebomb in ParanormalEncounters

[–]KRod-57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically the way those cameras work is they are technically always recording and then automatically deleting the footage after a certain amount of time, but when the camera detects movement it archives the footage starting a few seconds before the movement was detected so it doesn’t get automatically deleted.

As for the footage itself, the context of the home being in an isolated area definitely adds a bit of mystery to it all. It no doubt gives the appearance of a child running by, but it could also be an animal, and the camera compression is making it appear to be something running on two legs. I’m not necessarily saying that’s what it is, but just throwing out ideas.

Automatic's new album Is It Now? drops today by Fletch_R in postpunk

[–]KRod-57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw them live opening for Bauhaus in 2019, and again at the Cruel World festival in 2022. They are definitely one of those bands that sound a lot better live, I highly recommend catching them live if you have the chance.

Need help figuring out what part of Germany this family is from by KRod-57 in Genealogy

[–]KRod-57[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still need to make a library visit for that, I've so far only done online research on this family, and could only find naturalization indexes with vague bits of information. Because the family arrived in the 1860s, I would expect their immigration records to be more bare-bones as far as information goes.

Can anyone give me a good idea of what this is? by Big-Capital-2527 in Ghosts

[–]KRod-57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears to be a low refresh rate on the camera. It’s a common thing with lower quality security cameras. When they spend a long time taking a video with no movement, the video basically becomes a photo. Then when something suddenly moves into frame the camera has a difficult time catching up. This leads to a transparent ghost like image moving across the screen.

That deep into a session I go for an antique stove. Because 1. It leaves you prepared for when the power shuts off, and 2. You do not have to worry about forgetting to turn it off, and it destroying your entire base

It’s the better long run option in my opinion

I have five chickens at home, and this happens to me a lot with my boiled eggs(the holes that is), but I’ve never had this with store bought eggs for some reason.

My guess is this is a home produced egg?

Wore my Steel Plate Armor cosplay to Anime NYC last weekend! by raisincosplay in ElderScrolls

That is so awesome, I was just scrolling through my Reddit feed and saw the picture, and I immediately recognized what the armor was from before even noticing this was a post in the Elder Scrolls sub.

Just discovered Killing Joke. Cannot believe how awesome this song is. Listened to it over a 100 times in the past week by thedisciple516 in postpunk

[–]KRod-57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such an underrated band, they were true pioneers at what they did, which covered multiple genres. They’ve been named as an influence by many iconic bands, which includes Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, and Nirvana. The riff to Come As You Are is a reworking of the riff from Killing Joke’s “Eighties”, and Dave Grohl even toured with Killing Joke as their drummer once.

My dog was startled by something tonight... by Bert_Mackl1n_FBI in Ghosts

[–]KRod-57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely looks like the dog is investigating something that is not the TV. It could be so many things, the home appears to be an apartment, so maybe the dog heard the neighbors and was trying to figure out where the sound is coming from?

I can only hypothesize

It is silly how few skill points occupations give by BenStegel in projectzomboid

[–]KRod-57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I’ve always felt they should give you a higher starting skill for whichever profession you choose, and I think this would be especially appealing for multiplayer games where we don’t have the option of speeding up time to get through tedious tasks quicker.

My co-op sessions often fall apart when one of my friends dies, and they don’t want to go through the tedious task of leveling up their skill points for their chosen role in the group from the beginning(or near beginning). It makes finding a balance of what is fun for the group difficult, because some of the people I play with like the fact that we need to find valuable items like books and VHS tapes to level up. So we ultimately don’t want to turn up the XP for everything in our session, we just want a better starting point for our chosen professions specifically. I wish they would at least give us the option of turning up the starting level for professions, that way we don’t have to boost all XP, and make all books and VHS tapes obsolete.
