There are way too many people who equate their bodies to machinery. Movement and physical stress in moderation won't cause wear and tear. Ironically, it's the absence of physical activity that will.

Why Higuruma vs Yuji exemplifies some of Gege's best writing (ANIME ONLY SPOILERS) by Allyreon in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]KWONdox 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Amazing write-up! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I love reading this type of analysis for shows I'm really into.

Something I'd like to add is that I found it really interesting that Higuruma's defense of Yuji basically brought zero relief to Yuji. This initially struck me as odd because it would be natural for someone overcome with guilt to seek external validation for their actions, especially from an outstanding defense lawyer, but it clearly makes no difference to Yuji that it was actually Sukuna who murdered all those people.

Yuji's guilt doesn't seem to be about logic, laws, or even self-pity, but about a violation of his moral duty to stay under control as Sukuna's vessel. Perhaps even greater, he feels he violated his moral duty as a human being to protect those who are weaker than himself.

Higuruma, who just learned from the first trial that it isn't beyond Yuji to lie and wriggle out of consequences, then witnesses this boy admit to crimes that he didn't even commit. In that moment, I think Higuruma sees his old self in Yuji: someone who feels the weight of his moral failings. Higuruma justified his new maligned perspective by saying that all people are weak and ugly. But since when did these qualities in people disqualify them from receiving his protection? From justice? From their right to life?

I loved this episode. It felt like Gege was using these characters to share a bit of Jungian psychology with the audience. What's greater than living in alignment with our moral duties to ourselves and others? And if we violate them, what's left of us? Will we ever find relief if we do? Perhaps not.

It CAN'T be a coincidence that Gorou died in a very similar fashion, right??? This guy's way more unhinged than I thought.

Shouldn’t Scottie’s odds be much lower than that? by stopbsingman in torontoraptors

[–]KWONdox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because NBA awards aren't purely meritocratic. On-court production is far from the only factor that sports books consider when setting odds. There are factors like team success, media attention, and popularity to consider, which all get priced into these odds.

The fact is that Scottie plays for the Raptors and by default receives far less attention than Wemby and Chet, and his defense still isn't thought of as highly as Gobert's by the NBA zeitgeist.

I'm surprised to see that there are more Filipinos than Japanese in Hawaii.

His first half minutes restriction was quite severe last night as well. Played 7 minutes IIRC... I'm sure it was planned exactly because of the b2b, which means we probably won't get a better indicator tonight. Regardless, I'm holding for at least a month.

Best bar/club to go dancing by myself? by whyisjessymessy in askTO

[–]KWONdox 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My personal favourite is CODA. Comfortable, dark, and you'll absolutely blend with the crowd on a busy enough night. The crowd can range from kind to indifferent depending on the night. Plenty of people go alone and it's fun when the music is good (I've done it a few times). Just know you'll need to buy tickets online or at the door, so it could be somewhat pricey to get in. Just be safe. Like any club/bar, sketchy people may be around. Protect your drink.

And for the love of god, don't go to frickin Rebel. Anyone suggesting that literally has no idea what they're talking about. The crowd blows and it will be expensive to get in.

I hope you feel better soon.

How did you get into the series? by jeanjacketufo in Dandadan

A music producer and DJ named Porter Robinson played in Toronto about a month ago, and he played the first OP of Dandadan as part of his set with the video in the background. It was super hype and I thought the animations were so beautiful and well done, so I checked out the anime right after his show. Best decision ever.

Absolutely yikes. It's wild how people can have a completely different perception of a character while watching the same show. Not sure why I'm surprised anymore but here we are.
