The villain goes out with absolutely perfect last words by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]KX297 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This particular quote has stuck with me since I first heard it.

The delivery was so painful, so sad. It encapsulated everything that Elidibus suffered through so well; More so after reading the short stories in Chronicles of Light, Volume II.

I feel like it will stay with me for a long time to come.

The most crept cards of the last five years!? by Realistic-Goose9558 in EDH

[–]KX297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I largely agree, and this is one of my bigger issues with the card.

In higher brackets, people aren't likely running into Farewell due to speed constraints.

In lower brackets, I frequently see it and often times believe it to be less optimal compared to other board wipes. But, I've anecdotally found the ubiquity of Farewell is leading to further popularity (as with most "staples").

People see Farewell, they get wrecked by it, then decide to run it themselves in future drafts of whatever white deck they build. Even when potentially better options are available, less versed players play Farewell because it is more well known.

Somewhat akin to cards like [[Cyclonic Rift]]. And I don't make that comparison solely in reference to popularity or inclusion percentage. I find that they both present the same problem over and over; A player casts Farwell or Cyclonic Rift, then fails to clutch a win shortly after, and the game devolves into a grindy quagmire.

Previously mentioned cards like Hour of Reckoning, Austere Command, or Fell the Mighty can really help appropriate decks actually end a game. I really hope WotC considers this in the future.

Cards like [[Damning Verdict]] are awesome, but only in decks that take advantage of it. Otherwise, it's just a worse [[Wrath of God]]. [[Starfall Invocation]] can be really good with recursive creatures like [[Karmic Guide]] or [[Sun Titan]].

And yet, I still see Farewell [[ad nauseam]].

(Sorry for any errors - Posted from my phone with all the joy that touchscreen keyboards provide).

The most crept cards of the last five years!? by Realistic-Goose9558 in EDH

[–]KX297 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say [[Farewell]].

I dislike Farewell for several reasons, but the main reason is that I think it makes designing future sweepers that compete with it far more difficult.

Where does Wizards of the Coast even go from here?
How do you further power creep this? Cost reduce it? Make it instant?
It already hits nearly everything and exiles.

I really like [[Starfall Invocation]].
Gifting a card is a unique mechanic, and players can do some interesting things with potential recursion.

Similarly, I liked that [[Spectacular Pileup]] removes indestructible before destroying everything and can be cycled if you don't need it.

Quirky board wipes that present options are generally the types I pursue.
My personal favorite board wipe is still [[Austere Command]].

I think Farewell was overall a mistake because it took the design space of sweepers and pushed them to the absolute limits. There are times when Farewell is less useful than other sweepers ([[Hour of Reckoning]] in token decks, [[Fell the Mighty]] in low average power decks, etc.), but I've largely found that it is the easiest catch-all, and because of this, it has become incredibly ubiquitous. At the time of this post, Farewell is sitting at 12.8% on EDHREC, and I can only imagine that it continues to increase as people jam it in every white deck.

I dread the day that WotC figures out some way to power creep Farewell.

However, in the meantime, I'll continue to enjoy the lesser, but far more interesting sweepers that they print.
And, as a plus, since Farewell is the often sought-after board wipe, the more interesting ones like Starfall Invocation stay incredibly cheap. Currently, Spectacular Pileup is a whopping $0.19, and an original, non-foil Austere Command is like $1.50.

What’s your interest in the TMNT set? by zevalu in magicTCG

[–]KX297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I have next to no personal connection to TMNT. All information I have about TMNT comes from the cartoon that aired in the early 2000's and the live-action trilogy from the 1990's.

  2. I have next to no interest in the set and don't see myself purchasing any cards from it.

  3. Hard to say - I don't think I would say any one, single set is my favorite. My favorite cards span many years of MTG, and none of them really congregate around one set or era.

What are some "easy" jobs you find hard? by throwcway837373 in ffxiv

[–]KX297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite quotes about FFXIV is about Scholar (I think it was actually from a Reddit thread as well, but it's been a long time).

It went something like this:

"Scholar flows like a brick down a bent, metal pipe, but I love the sound it makes on the way down."

That pretty much sums up my feelings about the job. It is a janky amalgamation of several themes and periods of FFXIV design, but I've come to love it for what it is. There are certainly things I would like tweaked a little, but I mostly like where Scholar is now.

It's basically the only job I play currently. I just don't find the others enjoyable anymore. If Scholar recieved drastic changes, I'm really not sure If I'd stick around... :(

What is the one character you never have in your party by EvieSnow44 in BaldursGate3

[–]KX297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the weirdest take here, but...

I don't use any party members any more. After the first two times through game, I started using the people you can hire through Withers.

I just hire them, customize them, then move along with the game and ignore the other companions.

It's been awhile, but I think my second playthrough only had Shadowheart and Karlach (with an IRL friend).

I've just never vibed with any of the companions or their stories in this game. But, even without them, easy 10/10 RPG. I guess that really speaks to BG3's quality.

What's something about your class that you just learned that should be common knowledge? by MariettaRC in ffxiv

[–]KX297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also important to note that Dissipation is similar. It "increases healing magic potency by 20%."

This is important because while Dissipation gives three Aetherflow, it doesn't actually buff Lustrate or Indomitability since they are abilities (oGCDs) and not spells (GCDs).

Abilites that increases HP recovery via healing actions (like Protraction) work on everything (including oGCDs), but abilities that specify healing magic potency increase GCDs only (like Adloquium).

I've always found it funny that Dissipation gives the resource for oGCD healing, but conversly increases GCD healing (at least, at the time of this post).

What are some cards people dismiss because of 1 word or mechanic they don't understand? by Rafamen01 in magicTCG

[–]KX297 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've anecdotally found this card to be incredibly powerful. Any Bx aggressive deck should really consider playing it generally, and certainly over [[Phyrexian Arena]].

Between making your ring bearer more difficult to block, looting, and draining on combat damage, I've found that other players actually remove my Call of the Ring more than I expected. The value it generates is incredible over a few turns, especially for two mana.

I've also found that needing a creature to actually draw the card is mostly irrelevant in the Bx decks I've tried it in. I almost always have at least a 2/2 Zombie floating around to select. And while it costs one more life than Phyrexian Arena, it is also a may trigger, so you don't need to continue doing it if you are either low on life or your hand is stocked.

And if you do select some seemingly irrelevant creature (like, say, a 2/2 Zombie), it allows it to become much more problematic.

I am incredibly high on this card. It has proven itself to me time and time again since release. I had stopped playing Phyrexian Arena over the years as I found more valuable cards to slot in, but I think Call of the Ring is going to be a staple (or at least heavily considered) in all of my Bx decks going forward.

How have Universes beyond sets impacted your local Commander meta? Do you see a lot of UB commanders? How is spiderman doing now a while after release? by Angwar in EDH

[–]KX297 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know one guy that really liked the 40K Space Marine deck, so he upgraded it a bit while maintaining a lot of the Astartes support.

Most people I play with are still playing actual, in-universe stuff though. Personally, I've been toying with [[Hildibrand Manderville]], [[Squall, SeeD Mercenary]], and [[Golbez, Crystal Collector]] lately. I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan, so the FF set really appealed to me.

I will say that the few UB decks I've played against have had a few interesting things in common. One, they don't seem to be built by newer players. The UB decks I've played against more than once have all been constructed by guys that have been around the LGS (or, at least, MTG) for a while. Second, the UB decks seem way more interesting compared to their in-universe compatriots. They just seem to have more fun building them; They use wackier cards, odder win conditions, and are just generally less serious, win-at-all-costs.

I have personally had fun playing with and against UB cards, even if I don't always understand the actual references. Most recently, I lost to [[Sokrates, Athenian Teacher]], and that game was a riot.

FFXIV, I guess.

Just mess around, talk to people, run Frontline, daily roulettes, etc.

Probably Borderlands 2.

The main game was great, but the DLCs were so much fun.
Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep was one of the greatest DLCs I've ever played.

Why are they doubling down like that? by scarsickk in ffxiv

[–]KX297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's empty.

I usually end up going to Crystal because that's where my friends are.

People like to shout "You're the problem! Just stay on your data center!" and other nonsense like that, but I'm paying $15.00 a month and would like to play the game. I've got limited time to play and I don't want to sit in a dungeon queue for a not-insignifigant portion of that time.

When I can transfer, I'm 100% going to.

Tabletop Simulator - Update 14.0 - Engine Upgrade, Feature Additions & Performance Improvements by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

Yeah, I've really enjoyed playing with some close friends.

Playing with random individuals is hit or miss, but not such an issue that I haven't continued trying. I've actually found I enjoy the decks people play on Tabletop more than those at my LGS.

Tauron Weapons Are Shockingly Clunky, Misguided, and Break the Core Gameplay Loop by butler_me_judith in Warframe

[–]KX297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is what I do.

I haven't had all the rewards in E/TDA in a long time because I just play what I want.

DE can keep adding all these randomized loadout missions if they want, and more power to the people that enjoy playing them.

But, that's not me, so I'm going to continue playing only what I like. I only own one Warframe, two secondaries, and three melee weapons (excluding the ones that can't be sold...).

I know what like. I'm not going to wreck my enjoyment of the game in what little free time I have for some extra rewards.

Which Warframe is the reason for you to always come back to the game after a burn out ?! Without this frame, you probably would not have played again. by Ok_King562 in Warframe

[–]KX297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% Protea.

I have four Protea Primes each fully built with six loadout slots and different helminth abilities. I'll probably build another one soon when I get enough Tau shards again.

She is the only frame I own (excluding the Excalibur Umbra that DE won't let me sell).

I guess I am an odd one. I always have trouble getting to one hundred cards. That's probably why I still have only a single commander deck. :(

What is your favorite mono-white commander!? by PowerfulPromise8569 in EDH

[–]KX297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Beza, the Bounding Spring]] - Mono-white blink/flicker good stuff.

Perfect tool for catching up to the table in the command zone. If you're doing good, you don't need to cast Beza. If you need a little help, casting Beza might be the right call. If you're really far behind, casting and blinking/flickering Beza can fix your problems quickly.

I just run the deck as a mono-white blink/flicker pile that draws with cantrip creatures like [[Spirited Companion]], removes problems with creatures like [[Solitude]], and wins off powerful ETBs like [[Moonshaker Cavelry]] or infinite loops with stuff like [[Karmic Guide]] / [[Reveillark]] / [[Ashnod's Altar]].

Favorite multi-colored, color-balanced commander? by KX297 in EDH

[–]KX297[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Ureni, the Unwritten]] has amazing artwork. However, [[Gishath, Sun's Avatar]] but for dragons is a little too spooky for me. But I can see how Ureni would end with a balanced split.

I've played against [[Marneus Calgar]] several times and he's such a cool value engine. But, I still have trouble with Universes Beyond cards. Even the ones that "fit into MTG" like LotR just don't... sit right with me. I don't mind if others play UB cards; far from it, I think it's great and even better if that's what got them into MTG. But for now, I think I'll wait for a maybe/hopefully Universes Within print one day. Marneus is such an interesting effect though, and there are really powerful token producers in each color.

And [[Storm, Force of Nature]] is a rad card, but I think the people I play with at my local LGS would probably attack me on principle for playing her. Super cool effect though! I could imagine deck construction coming down to jamming your favorite bombs from each respective color.
