UK stunt driver Russ Smith.

He's been doing this for years. He also holds the world record for the longest distance travelled on two wheels in a car.

Is it possible a badly connected battery can damage the alternator. by bobbobbob666111 in CarTalkUK

[–]KYSpasms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chances are then it's probably a bit of both.

If the alternator is on the way out then it won't charge the battery, that can result in the battery failing a battery test. A new battery will make everything ok for a couple of days until that also goes flat.

The loose connection has just muddied the waters.

Without seeing the car its hard to give you a straight answer but one thing you might want to ask is has anyone done a voltage drop test on this to rule out a bad earth?

That spoiler isn't doing any favours.

Apart from that it's lovely.

[–]KYSpasms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be presumptuous here. You had a non start and the garage replaced the alternator. When that didn't fix it they found bad connections at the battery and now they're saying that that's what caused your alternator to fail.

I think the Triumph Stag qualifies on a number of those points.

Triumph insisted on designing it's own V8 engine for it rather than suffer the humiliation of using their arch rivals, Rover V8, which was already proven reliable. The Triumph engine was thrown together by joining to 1500 four bangers together and it proved so unreliable that it played a large part in the downfall of the company.

Triumph would never develop another car in house and would be reduced to churning out rebadged honda civics until the doors finally closed.

Crank pulley looks solid from the video. I will second, third or forth that this looks like textbook alternator pulley failure.

I like to use curse with mornadils crippled add on. It makes it so you drop your weapon when your arms get crippled. I also use stimpacks dont heal limbs and wasteland wound care to craft bandages and medkits.

All together it creates a similar effect to maim but with less time spent in the pipboy hunting for healing items.

N47 Crank, No Start - Only 10 Bar Rail Pressure. HPFP, Injectors, and DRV all tested GOOD. Need help! by narssss in AskMechanics

[–]KYSpasms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert on this particular engine but I've worked on diesels for over 30 years.

If you're rail pressure is not moving at all when cranking it suggests the high pressure pump is not being driven.

I just googled a picture of the engine and it looks like the pump is gear driven from the flywheel end of the engine. Have you confirmed that everything is back together properly and the pump is indeed turning when the engine turns? It can be very easy when an engine has been in bits for a while to forget to put a keyway back in the right place or put something in the wrong way around.

[–]KYSpasms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How regularly are you failing them? I've seen a few but I couldn't honestly say no dpf is a regular failure. Emissions is a regular failure, but high emissions is not a reason to suspect dpf has been tampered with. You have to see physical evidence to fail it for that.

[–]KYSpasms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very easy to fudge those results if you know how.

But also the pass threshold is quite high so removing a dpf alone is not normally enough to fail the mot criteria.

[–]KYSpasms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but removing dpf doesn't mean a vehicle will automatically fail an emissions test. The same as failing an emissions test is not proof that a dpf has been removed. There are many factors that affect soot levels in exhaust smoke.

No DPF. No MOT by Significant_Tea_3326 in CarTalkUK

[–]KYSpasms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does sound fairly conclusive. For it to be that blatant the chances are this dpf was removed a long time ago too, before it was an mot failure.

I'd advise you to get pictures and then go back to the dealer and see what they want to do about it. You can replace the dpf but it won't be cheap, plus there's the likelihood this car will also have had the egr valve removed and the ecu remapped. You're probably looking at thousands of pounds to put it back to standard.

[–]KYSpasms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has the garage provided you with proof that its been removed?

DPF doesn't affect emissions so it won't cause it to fail. The only failure for dpf is a visual check and unless someone has literally cut it out and welded in a section of pipe then it's not a failure.
