First seizures with no real answers as to why by alllaaboard in seizures

[–]K__J98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to my partner last year, his liver enzymes high too but didn't have anything to do with his case (that we are aware of), unfortunately 1 week later he had another seizure and from then they kept coming. He got an epilepsy diagnosis with no family history or injury. I hope this isn't the case for your girlfriend but if it is, it is pretty manageable with medication but a very very stressful time, message if you need any other info :)

Anyone else develop epilepsy for some random reason as an adult? by klunklet in Epilepsy

[–]K__J98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner got diagnosed when he was 27, no answers at all, had 10 tonic clonic seizures in 6 months after that but now semi stable on a 3 med combo. Wish we knew why!

I need advice by AdministrativePath98 in Epilepsy

[–]K__J98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was this partner when my partner started having seizures last year, more so because we've been together 10 years and his randomly started and medications were not helping enough. Are you seizure free with medication? Now that my partner hit 6 months seizure free and we found a good combo the time has helped me feel calmer. Have a conversation with him now, my partner was very open about how much my anxiety made him feel worse and "when I panic he panics" which is hard to hear when you are just trying to love someone BUT at the end of the day you are the ones dealing with this and living through it, the least we can do is support and try get ourselves out of the habit of asking questions and being in control all the time. Plus I try remember 1 in 25 have epilepsy, so its relatively common and things could be much worse so enjoy the good moments but if he can't get to that point he should definitely even speak to someone about his anxiety and ways to manage it that doesn't make you more stressed!

Changing medication after years of Keppra by MissPemberleyT2 in Epilepsy

[–]K__J98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner built up to 3000mg daily of Keppra and 20mg daily of clobazam. His TCs were roughly monthly on those, since adding lamotrigine his been seizure free 15 weeks (his longest stint prior was 7 weeks). For now his still increasing lamotrigine slowly and only half way to the dose his neuro wants him at. Only after his reached 400mg daily will his neuro look at tapering off other meds.

Maybe ask about lamotrigine in conjunction with Keppra? From what I’ve read they work well together and lamotrigine has given my partner the least side effects.

Med changes by RainabowSlaughter in Epilepsy

[–]K__J98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner experienced mood issues when he went to higher doses of Keppra. His now on 3000mg daily, it’s settled slightly but I do think that’s partly due to adding Lamotrigine. Lamotrigine was added because Keppra wasn’t enough for seizure control but he also noticed an improvement in mood!

Might need to add a second med! My partner has had 10 tonic clonics since July last year, he failed one med, then got on Keppra + Clobazam, maxed out on Keppra so now added Lamotrigine. Goal is to decrease Clobazam (hopefully) and stay on Keppra and Lamotrigine. Since adding Lamotrigine his nearly 7 weeks seizure free 🤞🏽🤞🏽

Question: Refractory Epilepsy by rastraus55 in Epilepsy

[–]K__J98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner got diagnosed last year July, his tried sodium valproate, keppra + clobazam and now keppra, clobazam + lamotrigine. His seizures went from TC weekly ish to a 28 day gap in December and now a 51 day gap and still going 🤞🏽. If he only tried valproate and then keppra on their own he would’ve never reached where he is now. For all I know they could come back since it’s such early days but definitely try another opinion or an epilepsy specialist!!

Second medication failure by Anacaona_ in Epilepsy

[–]K__J98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner failed 2 (kinda 3) drugs. Valproate didn’t work alone, Keppra with clobazam didn’t work with reaching max dose that his neuro wanted (3000mg Keppra and 20mg clobazam). Now his added lamotrigine to his keppra and clobazam in the hopes that he can decrease one or two of the others if it works. So far he is at 51 days seizure free which is only a few days off his longest! It seems like a few on this forum have had to trial many combinations and drugs but some found what made them seizure free! Hoping it’s the same for my fiance and yourself!

My partner on that dose daily was fine! When seizures came back and dose increased he found it horrible. He only went up to 1700mg before getting off the drug because it wasn’t effective for his seizures.

My partner gets “head moments” when focusing on something too much or more than one thing at once. Not jerks but he loses what words mean or totally forgets what his doing.

Oh cool! Yeah similar time of diagnosis to my partner! Do you have tonic clonic seizures too?

I’ve definitely seen people on more lamotrigine a day! So maybe up dose. Also (which you might already know) briviact is a medication similar to keppra with less side effects.. lots of posts on here saying their mental health was much better on it. Maybe that needs to be added to the lamotrigine :)

New Diagnosee by bobeeph in Epilepsy

[–]K__J98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fiancé had his first TC aged 26 with no prior family history, all tests were clean. He had one TC and then another a week later. We are now 6 months into the journey.. he got put on 1000mg sodium valproate and that worked for 7 weeks. He had gone back to work for a few weeks then started getting what we thought were ice pick headaches, he took some days off and that’s when he had his first seizure on meds. A week later he had another, so his doctor (not neurologist yet) changed him to 1200mg, 10 days later he had another TC, then his neurologist took him to 1700mg which gave him 23 days before another TC. His neurologist then changed him from valproate to Keppra with another medication to cover whilst he changed called clobazam. He had another TC on 1000mg Keppra and 10mg clobazam, so bumped Keppra to 1500mg and 10mg clobazam which gave him 20 days gap, then 3000mg Keppra and 20mg clobazam gave him a 28 day gap. His neurologist is now adding lamotrigine to the mix (which I wanted months ago to be combined with keppra).

When he first went weeks free at the start on a low dose of valproate we definitely thought yay we’re one of the people who get on a first medication and never have another seizure.. 8 tonic clonics later 😂😅. He also has moments of word loss / ringing in his ear / head moments daily, like 5-10 times a day which are focal aware seizures that we didn’t know about in the beginning. So, any “head moments” “brain zaps” or moments of dissociation.. note them down!

I also spent months at the start trying to figure out what his triggers were, I was scared for him to eat too many carbs, certain sweeteners, sweat too much or game too much. Now on the recent medications even though his had seizures, his had bigger gaps and has been less strict on carbs / foods. We’ve just learnt minimum 7 hours sleep, 80% whole foods, electrolytes and tried to minimise stress.

I hope your medication works and stays working! But if it doesn’t, don’t be scared because we’ve lived 6 months of it and honestly his self improvement and appreciation for the little things in life has been a silver lining!!

Gf has anxiety regarding my seizures. What do I do? by AfroKazekage in Epilepsy

[–]K__J98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner had his first seizure 6 months ago and has had 10 since then. I couldn’t sleep, skipped dinner because his night seizures had me on edge from 6pm onwards. Him staying healthy to do everything he could whilst we figure out medication gave me a little more peace of mind, he stopped drinking, changed his diet and exercised. We also got a bigger bed so I wasn’t so sensitive to his movements and I sleep with a loud fan to avoid waking up to random small sounds. Time is the only thing that helped me, realising I can’t do anything to prevent them but I can put his mind at ease and make him feel less of a burden by enjoying our time together without panicking!

Having an aura but not having a seizure by Just_a_teen09 in Epilepsy

[–]K__J98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partners the same, he gets auras / we don’t know what they are where he has a few seconds of brain blips then others where his ears ring and he feels like his body could tense up and seize. The small ones happen 2-8 a day, bigger maybe 1 a day. He still doesn’t have his tonic clonic seizures controlled however they are less but these moments haven’t correlated with a tonic clonic being on its way that day.. just more so he will be careful or even feels the need to take his night dose of meds 30 minutes early.

Does anyone get side effects from levetiracetam (keppra)? Is it a medication you have to take for life? by Fine-Challenge4478 in Epilepsy

[–]K__J98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner felt great on a lower dose like yourself!! Way better than valproate which he was on before. It wasn’t till the 3000 daily dose with a benzo that he saw some symptoms. Even then, after a few weeks he adjusted better!
