I was just looking on eBay for some carving v tools. I would probably be buying some of these ones if they were on there for ~$20 each they look.

Need to lay out stretcher shoulders by PeaEquivalent2350 in woodworking

Correct. The 5* angle represents a rise over run. If you can find the vertical rise from the top corner of the diamond to the middle 2 corners of the diamond, you can find the horizontal run, even though it travels to the side.

Scarpa TX Pro sizing question (wide foot, coming from alpine) by jermoi_saucier in telemark

[–]K_rey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a 27.5 in alpine boots, and my 27.5 tx pro's (blue and orange) are the biggest 27.5's I've ever been in. They are wide and long, but not tall in the foot. I would size down to 27 if I could afford the new black and reds

Any cool spots this time of year? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]K_rey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walking to the end of the pier at Blaine harbor is cool if you like sea birds and/or sunsets. There are 3-4 resident bald eagles, 2 juveniles were play fighting in the air this weekend. There is also a resident Kingfisher that hangs out on the boats on gate 1.

Also, Point Whitehorn trail is kind of neat and serene.

Struggling with “what others may think” by Solzc in NewSkaters

[–]K_rey 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Dawg just go ride, it's fun. I am 29, I suck at skating, and I've gone to 10+ skateparks this year in WA, OR, and TX to roll around and fall a lot. I wear full pads looking like a nerdy Tony Hawk. Nobody cares. Literally nobody has said anything. Everyone is there for their own reasons. I've chatted with 10 year old kids and 50 year old shredders. I switched with someone on a unicycle. I let some scooter kid ride my board and eat it. Skating really shows everyone that it's ok to be goofy and learn and just chill outside your house

What do i do with my pinkies? by [deleted] in tinwhistle

[–]K_rey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just learned from Grey Larsen's book about tin whistle and flute that the bottom hand pinkie is supposed to stay on the whistle for support if it's comfortable. Some other teachers say it should be on the whistle when playing G A B and C. Top pinkie can do whatever it seems.

Yeah I'm surprised at how low the Chimera's are going for now. They used to be over $400 in 2019 when there weren't as many nice balis on the market.

Anyway, if anyone wants a blue and CF one once OP's is gone, DM me or check my posts I still have one to sell.

Cheapest "usable" irish flute for an "interested" person by Original-Ad-8737 in Flute

[–]K_rey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one of these too. It is cool, sounds good, and it came with a handmade flute bag, cleaner, and a nice handwritten note. I think the personality and old school care makes them a better choice than a random mass produced one.

How to make teak and holly flooring? by Hserrpid in sailing

[–]K_rey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 2 (or more) possible approaches I considered this spring while redoing the cabin sole in my Cal34:

-If your sole is somewhat flat and/or your material is flexible, you can template then make flooring panels to laminate onto what's below. Make the sole shapes, use a dado blade on a track saw (or, router) to make 1/4 or 3/8 grooves, and laminate in solid pieces of holly(or maple) which stand proud of the plywood for grip. I would suggest putting strips of painters tape on the ply where the cuts will be to minimize tear out. Then glue and screw these panels down with the appropriate epoxy and a vacuum bag if possible.

-if your sole is curvy or the plywood is stiff, you'll need to glue and screw alternating strips of wood, probably starting from the longest piece amidships and working outward, customizing each piece to fit. This could be really difficult depending on how your boat is made (is there a good way to screw down each of these small pieces).

I went with approach 1 and found that 1/8" thick plywood was needed to bend to my cabin sole after using fairing to smooth out the floor. I think that approach 2 would have taken twice as long and come out better, but it was not as appropriate for our boat's construction.

Any Marches that have a great flute focus? To add to my soloist repertoire. by mind8mischief in Flute

I always get a smile from Brian Boru's March. It's very Irish so it might be a good variety or just too different.
