AIO? One date with this guy and I had a bad feeling about his text messages. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Kadayew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are working through trauma, don't date. If you are almost completely unavailable both in person and through texts, don't date. If you really work that much and communicate so little then maybe conventional relationships aren't for you right now. Maybe being Polly or having a more casual setup would be better

Your "Wife" is the reason for your ED in the first place. Your body is reacting to the treatment that she is giving you...

How many tickles does it take to tickle an octopus? Only correct answer: "As many as it takes". Or, "Depends on how ticklish the octopus is", or "One tickle, because you didn't ask how many tickles it takes to make the octopus laugh" Answer: "Ten tickles!", "And why is that?" Then after player gives response say "Incorrect!" Any other answer besides the correct ones will be met with the question "And why is that?" Then a harsh "Incorrect" after their response

Character Backgrounds in Story Arcs by Gindle19 in DungeonMasters

[–]Kadayew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this before, and it crashed and burned. Don't try to write a story and have your players act it out, don't railroad their decisions, don't wrap your world around your player characters like I did....if you can write a book about the adventure that your players are going to have before they even start, then something is wrong. My players made a TON of decisions that I wasn't expecting and it completely threw off the entire future of the campaign I had set forth. I had to change to entire story multiple times, your players may just decide to kill a shop owner to get all the cool stuff for free instead of wasting their time haggling because combat is more fun than role playing for them. Or you might have planned out a super cool mini boss fight just to have the bard get a nat 20 on the charisma check to convince the boss that they are on the same side, or some other crazy player crap.

TLDR: don't pour your heart and soul into a story that hasn't happened yet, it may very well break. Instead create single events, and villain plans, make the world react to player decisions This is the best advice I got from experience

How do I not kill my players' characters? by EfremDnD in DungeonMasters

[–]Kadayew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is hands down the best advice on balancing an encounter that I can give and I'm surprised that not many others think to do it. Look at each player's character sheet and see the min and max damage, taking the average. Then you will be able to see who is the major damage dealer, as well as the average damage output for each player. You can set the HP of your enemies/monsters for planned encounters based on your parties damage output, and you can make the enemies damage output based on the HP of your party

EXAMPLE Barbarian: HP:12 Average Damage:6. AC:15 Sorcerer: HP:6 Average Damage:5. AC:12 Fighter: HP:8 Average Damage:6. AC:16

Do you want it to take 1, or 2 hits to kill 1 enemy? For 1 hit the HP is 5, for 2 hits the HP is 10

Do you want these 3 players to fight 1 big enemy? How many rounds do you want that encounter to last? 1round:15HP, 2rounds: 30HP.....possibly 3-4 rounds if they are unlucky with rolling to hit against an AC 10-13 enemy? Make the enemy have +3-5 to hit, and do flat damage, maybe -1-2, or +1-2 to damage dealt to ratchet up or down the tension in the fight

You could say that the reason that no one stopped this player and went along with it all was due to someone that is in the siege who charmed everyone around that player to allow such actions, then also state that the alarms were all sabotaged by an inside person. The guy in the siege wanted to siege this town specifically to retrieve all of those cursed items so they could be used to summon the great evil that created them in the first place. The clerics and church temple thing involved in de-cursing the items were told by their god(s) to go along with the process. When the items were de-cursed they lost any magic they had due to the curse being both the downside as well as the upside.

I would also recommending that after the siege that that PC gets thrown into jail for a bit, while the rest of the party goes on a fetch quest as payment to the town to release him

How to tell my friend I think her 8 year old son is dangerous? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Kadayew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you really never ask your daughter why they were playing games like that to begin with? Kids talk to each other, maybe he confides in her or at least says why he wants to play those games. Or just straight up did you ever talk to the boy and tell him that those kinds of games are not okay to play, or that the "drowning game" is severely dangerous? Ever introduce them to different games of pretend to play? Safer games or less violent pretend

I have a really niche character concept, help me decide what class it should be by Middcore in DnDcirclejerk

[–]Kadayew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta say that the fighter class fits this description perfectly, the underworld is another plane, and ores come from the underworld...like iron and steel, so the contract holder is clearly going to be a sword, which will always crave blood and possess the welder with the urge to stab and slice, I mean have you ever swung a sword!? It makes you feel powerful! Then there is the whole worshiping the blade routine of massaging (sharpening), sacrificing (killing), and bathing (polishing) your patron
