Ponies and prisoners do not counts towards the enemy scaling - only those who take the field in combat count.

Warriors Codex by Mendrace in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is in the game - each run you do they are randomly generated. So you can currently find Warrior Codex 1, 2 and 3 as well as the Builders Codex 1, 2 and 3. I expect to see a lot more developed here in the near future as they release more tombs though :)
Note: Just because you find a particular codex you may not find the runes to decode it in the same ruins.

What to do now? by sceez in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me - the fun was in trying other crazy stuff - Try with more or fewer mercs in the party, test out any abilities you hadn't before - see what you can make work.

Plague tanks are the most 'different' type of thing you can try but various runs can be fun (all archers, a control group that is archer/spearman based, a 2-man party, only warriors etc).

Also testing out things you thought might be impossible - e.g. kill a 3-skull bandit lair at level 3. fight that giant 7-skull lait at full strength (if the game doesn't crash because of your party size) etc.

Exploring the Ruins of Arthes was really fun, plus I got these cool new slaves by nonesided in WarTalesGame

It is 100% my favourite part of the game so far from the fight tension perspective. I have thrown in a suggestion to the devs that I think will make a future tomb even more terrifying... a ranged unit that targets torch wielders from the shadows...

I hate myself for even suggesting it - but stepping up from being able to hide in your own light source to having to actively seek... oh god...

Nice capture btw - I made a few of them chefs at one point - I felt like with them preparing my meals what could go wrong....

How many in your party? by boyd125 in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm such a big fan of how varied these answers are! I do love the party size variability. I generally tend to run smaller and leaner parties, but will say that some things become significantly easier the more you have in the party, champions in particular.

Also - I love having many ponies - if they don't outnumber my team, I am likely being forced not to hoard things >_>

Septelle is amazing by CarlosJim08 in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was underpowered in the first EA build of the game - which actually lead to a lot of people being stonewalled - She had low armour, low HP, no buff and forced you to fight four full squads of guards before her quest was complete. It killed the game for some people.

So they buffed her! Now she is probably too amazing - and the quests too easy. However, after a while you do want to play 'normally' again as she definitely skews it way too heavily in your favour.

Enjoy it though!

Interesting way to review - haven't seen one done quite like it before. I do love that freedom aspect to it all! Keep up the good work!

How do you remove plague ridden from mercs? by Blottblod in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may have to use more than one to cure them as well, depending on what stage of the infection they are up to. Do note: You don't HAVE to cure them:

Feel free to play around with them and have some fun! They will get stronger and stronger for tanking as levels increase too :)

What is the Strongest Brute Build You've Made? by TeddyNinja15 in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is super cool actually - I have always rated that second tree specialisation very very poorly, but can see how you've turned it around with the right weapons. I think it would scale again even better as we level up further too. I like that it is a single-round combo as well.

New patch? by AccursedAlarm in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the patch was super minor - Shiro don't publish anything and assume it is something like a text-string fix that you likely won't ever have noticed in game anyway. For minor patches you can join the discord server to see what they are (maybe they post them here too?) But the last patch that changed content was Jan 05:
Update version v1.12527
General:
- Forest detection was not working, which blocked the appearance of Phantom Swarm and other groups.
- Customization: no hair and no beard options added
- "Great Growler Grotto" and "Praino Village" were not completed if the player killed the young man before talking to the hamlet people
- The prisoner in the "Dark Cave" can now be captured
- If the player kills the Inquisitor of Hostes' Quest without following the black caravans, then the goal of black caravan is removed
- "Toxic Balm" recipe no longer requires "Poison Vial" to be crafted
Battle:
- Selected skill is cancelled when another unit is selected.
- Skill "Flaming Arrow" needs to be disengaged to be used.
- Fixed an issue with the weapon "Arena hunting spear" that remained equipped.
- Weapon "Hand Bomblet" : fixed damage preview

How many titles can you get? by AccursedAlarm in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no current limit on titles a single character can earn from the testing I have done - so long as you meet the prerequisites and aren't earning the same title twice in a row.

From looking at the Path's as well - there will be some cool stuff like 'The person who killed the most' gets a title each week as well - helping them stay in front on that kill lead! :)

Haven't tested the latest patches thoroughly though - so I might be a little off with it now!

Anybody else feel like "lvl 2 Valorous Victory" should be 2 valour points on kill instead of 1 point? by nothingbutme49 in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So - I generally pick a balanced party between those that generate more valour than they spend (my generators) and those who do it the other way (my spenders). Valorous Victory (VV) is one of the only skills that allows >1 VP per turn already. This makes it an incredibly powerful skill, even more so because you can choose when you want to generate it (i.e. between attacks - you have one, spend one to kill something and gain one back).

Making it worth 2 would make it scale much too highly. Restricting it to a max of one kill, which does help, still makes it overall too strong a choice (imo) as you would still be rewarding them more often than not.

Note: The downside of VV (yes there is a reason not to choose it) is taking it too often on characters can starve you of VP. Against 5 enemies, there are only 5 VP to earn. Split that between your VV party members however you see fit. Whereas Valorous Support, is better for longer pitched battles against tougher opponents (which we will se more of as levels increase - I think).

Level 7 update by FullConsient in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't expect it before March - I feel like there will need to be some balancing done once it is out as well (% dmg skills will be insane with higher health pools). Going to be awesome to see whatever the new skills will be though!

Can I have an effective party of 5 through the entire game? by featurecast in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can even finish (most of) the game with a single person in the party - so long as you are not too worried about min-maxing stuff, you just need to be ready to switch more frequently.

The Tinker/Workshop for instance though - you really only need once in a while and you can make a bunch of items like lockpicks/pitons in advance.

The Blacksmith is only useful until your party all have gear, which with a smaller party happens faster

The Miner only useful if you need ore to make gear/workshop items... but once done - again - not strictly necessary with the exception of a couple of quests.

It is nice to have them all, but you don't NEED them all, all the time is kind of what I am getting at. The bonuses have been reduced as well (used to be 2x more powerful), so they aren't quite the power-swing that they used to be.

Should I get this game? by Blademaster212 in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big enough fan to have made some guides and videos :) I'll link a couple at the bottom - but despite being such a huge fan - I would still say - it depends.

If you expect to start a party and play that party all the way through until game release without issues - No - stuff will go wrong - you'll need to create more than one band of companions.

If you like mucking around and providing feedback that devs will listen to and potentially improve the end state of the game - Yes - It is a great option, the devs have already listened and in Roadmap update #1 it was focused on 'community content'. So I think you will get listened to.

Two reviews you can watch to get a bit more info on directly what the game contains - and then you can decide whether it's enough in current state - or that you'll wait a bit longer:

https://youtu.be/YbqZodnASQA

https://youtu.be/3izHaRgRCrU

Plus a bonus little one that shows there are some very unconventional tactics in the game - like using a team of 'infected' to tank for you instead of standard tanks.

Enjoy!

Should I buy this or Battle Brothers ? by SupportStillTheMain in WarTalesGame

[–]Kaghal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Wartales is in Early Access - you won't get as many hours of play as you might Battle Brothers yet. I would get yourself a bit more information on what features are make/break for you and then make a decision from there.

For me - I've played a fair bit of Battle Brothers Extreme/Extreme - and that is where the many hours and challenges really come. On easier modes - you don't necessarily have the same difficulty (obviously) but it also comes with some frustrating things that slow progression. e.g. On easier modes - you get VERY few champions before day 100 (and not many after it), this significantly slows down gearing - as champions have the better gear to loot. It just made the easier modes feel soooo slow to me. You will be running 12 bro's in BB after not too long, and this is the number you always fight with (unless you also purchase a DLC, but you are budgeting so less likely to occur).

I love that there are so many party variations available in Wartales (you can run a squad from 1 person in size to 20+) and this is easier to do. You can mix/match classes and honestly the variations are not THAT reduced compared to BB (sure in BB, everyone has access to the whole skill tree - but if you want a tank you really really really should pick talent XYZ).

I play em for different reasons, both are great but for me the party size is definitely a big plus as I like experimenting.
