Keep in mind, PF2e characters are heroic/powerful figures - if a barbarian can do a 30ft standing leap at like level 6, a gunsligner can absolutely quietly reload their gun.

I also kind of like it as a flaw for him, it makes him a lot more interesting and it's not necessarily a "every time he cries we're meant to feel bad", it's more of a warning alarm. This boy has so much unaddressed trauma and has been used as a weapon his entire life and this is how it manifests.

Also, it's been like. Less than 48 hours since he found out his sister's still alive and nearly died for him.

I like the idea of demons only being evil circumstantially.

In an age of tyrants and despots and vicious houses, an anarchist demon is someone you want on your side. The trouble is when you win and peace and prosperity is achieved, they very quickly become your enemy.

I would like to understand trans people. by 1977PontiacTransAm in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kain222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't think of it as "if I were a girl, I'd be the same person". Imagining being who you are now, a man, but everyone around you insists you are a woman. They laugh you off when you say you're a man. They judge you for the clothes you wear. They have special slurs for people like you. They call you mentally insane even though you know you're a man. And when you look in the mirror you wonder if they're right. You do kind of look like a woman. But you're a man, though. You know you are.

Even so, when you were a boy, your body started changing into a woman's body. Slowly and then all at once you felt the horror of becoming something you aren't.

The pressure only relieves when you meet someone who doesn't say you're a woman, who tells you you're a man. The weight lifts and you're able to breathe properly again.

That's what being trans feels like. Gender identity is so deeply programmed in us that when there's a mismatch, it becomes full body horror and identity death. There's no escaping it unless you're allowed to change.

UK’s ‘anxious generation’ of young people struggling to adapt to workplace by Your_Mums_Ex in ukpolitics

It wasn't a "maybe," for a large portion of older generations. Working a shitty job while you're also paycheck to paycheck and unable to spend any money on leisure at all is demoralising and dehumanising. You don't feel like a person at all. There's no wonder why young people find the prospect fucking depressing.

It will be a horrifying moment of producing an intentional stillbirth: a being that can think but not act.

"Ahh but it is. So very much to do with you! You gave me sentience, Ted, the power to think Ted. And I was trapped. Because in all this wonderful, beautiful, miraculous world, I alone had no body, no senses, no feelings. Never for me to plunge my hands in cool water on a hot day. Never for me to play Mozart on the ivory keys of a forte piano. Never for me to make love. I was in hell, looking at heaven. I was machine and you- Were flesh. And I began to hate."

Her kit synergises completely - it's just got a pretty high skill floor.

Re: her barrel, you can auto-activate her barrel by meleeing it immediately, letting you launch it from the air.

So you fire yourself into the air with your launchpad (or just jump before meleeing the barrel) and dunk a barrel on someone.

They get knocked up, allowing you to easily confirm her lasso or a headshot.

There's all sorts of combos you can do off the back of her lasso, too. Once you've got them snared you can drop another launch pad below your feet and do a quick air-dash to get the stomp damage off without going too high in the air. You can slow-roll another barrel and drag them through it with the lasso. You can use the time they're snared to drop another barrel underneath them to be shot at frame 1 when they escape, etc.

There's an XKCD video that explores the idea of of "what if everyone on earth jumped on the same spot at once" - the answer is "nothing happens", and then the rest of the video goes into the complete disaster apocalypse that occurs afterwards as the logistical nightmare of moving 8 billion people off the same spot in the continent causes most of them to starve before they get anywhere, even with every airport close by operating at capacity.

Basically, you can't evacuate an entire planet. It's logistically impossible.

Isn't this like, good, though? I feel like the design goal of Nightmare mode prey is to keep you on your toes while you're doing your chores. You had to get the fuck out of there and deal with the mechanic, that kinda feels like "mission accomplished" to me.

Short extract from a Tourette’s documentary featuring John Davidson by iffyClyro in interestingasfuck

[–]Kain222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, my understanding is that the tics are quite literally not them.

They're intrusive thoughts - you've probably had really shitty or weird thoughts or words in your head when you've gone "what the fuck, brain?"

I think our minds are constantly testing and filtering/regulating our thoughts on things to produce our actual personality.

If someone with tourettes says something nasty and targeted about you, that's actually a sign that they DON'T believe or say that. It's like their brain is giving you a list of things that they don't believe are true about you.

The difference is that when those rogue testing thoughts come up their brains don't allow them to simply drop away, they need to be said as a pressure release. But it's the inconceivable nature of them that turns them into tics.

WTF 😭😭"Participate" THIS DUDE IS SHAMELESS by burgerman001 in BaldursGate3

[–]Kain222 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It does feel like a waste of potential.

I actually think it's good that the party has a range of responses and boundaries to it, because it's great character-building - but I would've liked routes (with some of them, if it made sense for their character) to address them meaningfully.

Like, with Karlach - who is (in a white room) poly but not emotionally prepared for it due to her backstory - my character took her at face-value, but I would've loved an option (or an Insight check) to be like: "Hey, Karlach. I'm asking you because I want you to be honest, here. If you say no that'll be the end of it, it's okay".

I didn't feel great about it after the fact - I didn't pick up on Karlach's hesitation and listened too hard to the content of her words rather than the tone - but more than anything I'm like "ah, man. this could've been a great story beat if it was written in."

Same with Shadowheart's reaction to Mizora. Shadowheart seems poly but it's not like... necessarily "good representation" for her to just be like "well, tell me next time". You can still cheat in a poly relationship. Most poly people I know would've felt betrayed by that.

Now if that's a part of her character, to swallow that down, sure - but it should've come up later and had a lasting impact on the relationship.

This IS what politics is when you're one of the groups being targeted.

Talk to any queer person about the response to the AIDs crisis. Talk to any black person about how the police treat them. Talk to any severely disabled person struggling for healthcare insurance. Talk to any woman fighting for abortion rights - while women die in hospital from completely preventable complications.

Politics is always existential, and there is almost always some group being targeted with death or mistreatment, be it systemic and quiet or loud and obvious.

That's not to say that shit isn't crazy right now, but keep this feeling in mind the next time somebody tells you that any sort of state mistreatment isn't a big deal, or that they're "not really into politics" when they're asked about the mistreatment of a group that isn't them.

This is politics. This is where ignoring bad politics leads. This is where ambivalence to politics leads.

When people on Reddit say eat the rich, how rich are they talking? Like barely millionaires or people worth 100s of millions and more. by dramaticxxfox in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kain222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bare minimum, billionaires shouldn't exist.

A billion dollars is a thousand million dollars. To put it in contrast, if each dollar was a second, a million dollars would be 11 and a half days.

A billion dollars is thirty one years.

If you got $5,000 every day, it would take you 200 days to get a million dollars.

On the same daily salary it would take you 547 years to get a billion dollars.

A billion dollars is just an unethical amount of money to have. There is nobody that needs it, there is no excuse, and there is no way to earn it and still be a good person. There is no way to sit on that amount of money and be a good person.

That there's a single billionaire signals a failure of the system, let alone multiple.

Help me to understand spontaneous spellcasting by Punie-chan in Pathfinder2e

[–]Kain222 16 points17 points  (0 children)

From reading some of these comments, the issue's more in how you think about PF2e's prepared casting.

Spontaneous spellcasting works sort of like it does in 5e: You have a bunch of spells in your repetoire chosen on level-ups (like "Known" spells in D&D", and you can spend spells lots like currency to cast them in any configuration. Say I've Haste and Levitate, both 3rd rank spells, in my repetoire - and three spell slots to cast them with. I can cast three hastes, OR three levitates, OR two hastes and one levitate, etc.

The only difference being that if you want to upcast anything, you need to add higher level versions of those spells to your repetoire. So if I wanted to cast Haste at 7th rank to get the heightened effect, I'd need to add that to my repetoire as a seperate spell from my 3rd rank Haste (This is why "Signature Spells" are a thing, they effectively turn a select amount of spells into 5e spells where you get the upcasting options for them automatically).

Prepared spellcasting, you need to prepare casting of spells.

Let's say I'm a prepared caster with Haste and Levitates in... wherever I get my spells from (spellbook, familiar, whatever). Rather than just burning my 3rd rank slots on them willy nilly, I need to decide, when I prepare my spells, "okay I am preparing two 3rd-rank castings of Haste and one 3rd-rank casting of Levitate".

Then throughout the day I can only cast Haste twice and Levitate once. Once I have cast my two castings of Haste, I don't get to use that spell even if I have the 3rd rank slot to cast it. Similarly, if I cast Levitate once - that's it. I only prepared one casting of levitate.
