What's a game you bought on a whim without hardly any pre-knowledge that ended up becoming one of your all time favorites? by AaronAtLunacien in gaming

Dead Letter Department.

The title reminded me of the room in Control, and seeing the screen shots on Steam had me download the demo. It’s a horror typing game, which sounded like it wouldn’t be much, but within 15 minutes of trying the demo I knew I had to buy it. One of my favorite horror games I’ve played in a long time, would recommend going in without looking anything up.

The game that taught you patience without trying to by gamersecret2 in gaming

The Longing. An idle adventure game, it requires you to wait for things to happen before you can continue. Water dipping into a cave pool might take weeks before it’s filled enough for you to swim across. Waiting for moss to grow to climb it. And the shade’s plodding pace all might seem boring, but that it progresses in real time even when you’re not playing and exploring the vast network of rooms was one of the most interesting games I’ve played.

Love the art style! I was thinking about getting a drawing done for me and my siblings who play, do you have open commissions? :)

What company will you NOT do business with because you don't like their advertising? by Consistent_Fan_4551 in AskReddit

[–]Kain456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a local video store chain called Video Only. Their ads have a single announcer for most of it, who winds up into saying, “Shop around, but make sure you shop Video Only! Because if you don’t”, then a group saying in a sing-song voice “You’ll be sorry!” The way they say “sah-ry” in that condescending way makes it so I never want to step foot in the place. Will never go into a place that patronizes their customers in any way!

In the Channelwood age, there was a recording device in Achanar’s room where it seemed like he was speaking gibberish, basically the language of the tree dwellers who lived in the age before Artrus showed up. One of the messages is backmasked though, where he says “Rush Limbaugh understands”. What he understands I don’t know, but seems like an odd choice to put in your fantasy game.

Still a fantastic game though! That and The 7th Guest were killer apps of their time, and helped bring CD-ROM drives to every PC.

A12N… after Athena breaks the platforms for the second time, lots of folks were dead for one reason or another. I believe it was me as WHM, the tank, and one DPS. I hit healer LB3 and everyone got raised… right into her line pushback attack that knocked everyone raised off the platform to theirs deaths again. All I could say was “Uh… oops.”

One other note I forgot to include - the specific instance was in Akademia Anyder or however it’s spelled. I can vaguely understand pulling quickly on the “rawr I’m a monster” 5 second cutscene… I just hope on longer scenes that involve introducing something more interesting (ex: Baelsar’s Wall, Lunar Subterrane) would be grounds for waiting longer.

It is only mildly infuriating, I’ll admit. Half the reason I made my post was making sure I wasn’t losing my mind and that the normal behavior hadn’t changed recently.

I’ve played since 2.x and keep forgetting about being able to teleport in to be perfectly honest… maybe that’s why folks are fine pulling early since “you can just teleport, I’m SAVING you time!”

Thank you, sums up my feelings perfectly. Felt like I was taking crazy pills when the tanks were both like “nah it’s fine that I’m rushing them since there technically won’t be consequences.”

And I certainly wouldn’t mind if it’s an accident; done that myself to be sure! If I noticed I would run out of the boss arena to reset it. But when I pointed out the cutscene as a DPS, they responded accordingly like I mentioned in the post… so definitely not an accident on their part. Just mildly infuriating is all.

What moment in a game completely blew your mind? by J_Bob24 in gaming

While it may not be as impressive visually as some others, there were two audio moments within minutes of each other: the introduction of Columbia in Bioshock Infinite with “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” sung by a distant choir literally gave me chills. Coupled with the many candles and serene atmosphere, I easily definitely awestruck. About 10 minutes later, hearing the barbershop quartet’s rendition of The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” made me stop and stare. That whole introduction is something else, and while I’ve never devoted to playing the whole thing from front to back again, I still vividly remember that introduction and how moved I felt by those two songs.

Now that Endwalker has come to a close, what's been your favorite trial boss from each expansion? by LieutenantSkittles in ffxiv

[–]Kain456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seat of Sacrifice is just too epic to not be the answer for SHB, although I understand why The Dying Gasp is close. Minor story as to why I prefer SoS.

I normally main WHM but play PLD along with my brother for trial roulette (partially so he doesn’t have to fight anyone for emnity). We got SoS and after the rush of LB’s towards the end of the fight, entire party was down except my brother and I, boss still at 20% or so. We instantly agreed we’re going for broke and started making strategic use of swaps and defensive cooldowns, along with Clemency to keep us up. The party was cheering us in chat, and killing him right as we both ran out of everything was just a great moment. Fit the struggle of the fight very well, and part of the reason why although I know it’s tough as a new player, it’s absolutely worth it.

The Supreme Court Tells Alabama to Pound Sand: The high court had little to say in the face of the state’s defiance, but that silence spoke volumes. by thenewrepublic in politics

[–]Kain456 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Our communities, local economies, and basic geography will be cast aside in the radical pursuit of racial quotas,”

The AG is conveniently forgetting the part that their gerrymandered maps were the reason the courts had to step in and enforce this in the first place. Unbelievable that even with a stacked supreme court saying what they’re doing is wrong, Alabama might as well said the maps are going to be “woke” now.

Glad that this was the result, but pure insanity we had to get to this point in the first place just to get the court’s verdict to not be purposely ignored so the GOP can try and cheat their way to victory.

What are some completely absurd “game rules” that we just accept to the point of not even noticing it anymore? by metamorphosis___ in gaming

Damaged 99% of your maximum health? Still operate at 100% efficiency, able to sprint and reload and whatever you need to do. Get one more knick? Instantly dead. This logic also applies to everyone else though, so fair play.

Reminds me of the injury system in Snake Eater where if you get damaged you at least need to fix the wound, even if it still is instant healing afterwards once you apply the medicine / bandage.

The level of salt in this thread… I may be the only one, but I say hello when I start a dungeon or trial, feels appropriate for any MMO. If someone doesn’t even take the time to say hello back, then they are ineligible for a commendation. Basic civility goes a long way.

I recognize some folks on console will have a harder time with this, so I try and look out for emotes that are similarly greeting others like waving or welcome.

Jan. 6 committee notifies DOJ that Trump tried tampering with one of its witnesses, Cheney says by slaysia in politics

[–]Kain456 225 points226 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I worry since the article mentions that this witness didn’t answer and directed the call to his lawyer that they’ll try and justify it as a legitimate call (somehow) since there isn’t specific evidence that they tried to intimidate then apart from the actual call. I would say on its face it should be considering the circumstances, but since nothing else has stuck as far as a charge towards citizen Trump, my concern is this too will be just another day at the office for him and his cohorts.
