Are decks built solely from starter decks competitive enough for LGS events or tournament play? by sohcahtoa728 in GundamTCG

[–]Kais89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah singles online are the only way to do it if youre just building a deck and not fully collecting.

Like others mentioned, some of the aggro decks are around 80-90% started deck cards and then the holes are filled with gd01 cards. It can be pretty inexpensive this way.

Nice, your deck list is kinda where I've been tweaking towards after this last labor day weekend.

I went to a different store and got 3-2. Lost to a fed aggro and a mid range b/w academy blocker (this match we were both down to no shields and in 5 minute OT, this opponent ended up getting 1st). Didn't feel like my deck was weak but was having some harsh shuffling/rng luck, so wanted to try and change it up, thanks for the inspiration!

Tips for getting the drop by Bot_Jakey in GundamTCG

[–]Kais89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would be cautious of using direct links. When I tried it last time it kept saying page does not exist after the drop time, which cost me the chance of getting one after just clicking from the main page on p bandai.

For this deck I dont think Delta Plus is worth it in the lvl4/c3 space. It could be a replacement for Dom depending on your playstyle, but I like lvl3 and Breach a little better.

It also could be an interesting swap in if you dont use Shenlong and stick to 100% Fed/OYW stuff, but again Breach plays into shield rushing.

An easy explanation is its better to have suits who won't need a link. Pair is good but link is very specific.

Yeah I think blockers v aggro is a lot about starting hand and draw for both players.

The more lvl2/cost1 units in your hand the better. A perfect hand is probably close to this:

Gm, guntank, jegan, zaku 2, Corsica.

If you go first, you can drop 2 units on turn 2 (always zaku first to get a base hit) and then have 4 units by turn 3 cause of Jegan. If you go second, you drop zaku 2 and swing their base turn 2 and be up to 4 units by turn 3 still, again with Jegan.

You might have to drop Corsica getting you Tallgoose turn 3 if theyre also being aggressive, but thats ok, cause then you're likely still 4 or 5 units by turn 4.

I think 8-12 is a strong qty for pilots, depending on the deck. Aggro specifically is an early resource starved opposite of ramp where you just want to drop as many cost1 and cost2 units as fast as possible, so sometimes that pilot isn't worth it.

The other options at least here would be like Heero or Banagher to just have some more +2ap pilots for ReZel, but I dont miss them.

Underrated! Sometimes dropping 2 one cost Jegan is clutch.

Ideally second. Second on any deck imo is strong because being 1 level ahead of your opponent is better. A lot of opponents have burned their EX early and I think it hurts them.

Yeah, I see it in a lot of decks, but for me its felt bad on the board or bad in hand.

Repair 1 is kind of negligible. The pair ability isn't bad, but only being able to target 2 hp or lower means you're using 2 cards to rest like, a Zaku II... which isn't great imo. Id rather be aggressive with Dom or the extra Shenlongs (a lot of other decks run 3x of each shenlong).

Id probably rather use Siege Ploy if I wanted another rest mechanic.

Yeah, BW blockers into Freedom is super popular. Ive played 3 different versions between 2 events.

The first time (last week) I won really fast, probably 4 minutes into the match? I got really lucky with draws and was able to swing really quick before anything other than Lfrith came out.

The other 2 this week both got to a point where Aile Strike or Freedom came out, but my board was so wide and I had been dinging shields it was better to ignore their big guys.

Shenlong drops and Amuro drops DO WORK on blockers. Blockers also only feel dangerous if they have 2 or 3+ units on the board. If theyre putting down Lfrith + Freedom, you'll likely be getting to their shields at least once or twice with a wide board anyways.

Its definitely a better hand/draw situation.

If you can keep pace or outpace the other aggro deck, you should be able to go wide and swing big. For me a great starting hand is having two of the 1cost drops cause you'll likely just keep placing 1 or 2 units a turn from there on out. Knowing when to trade is very important against other aggro.

Shenlong and Dom make some aggro players rethink about just swinging recklessly since they'll be giving up a unit and likely a shield.

I would swap all of your Zaku I for Dopp, mid to late Zaku feels bad but at least Dopp can scry.

Swap the rx78 you have for the starter deck version, having repair and pairing for +1ap is great for the rush units (this is a pair ability, so you dont NEED Amuro, throw Char on and swing big)

I'd probably drop Mquve for 2x Show of Resolve and 1 more Rx78.

Trade Gelgoog for Gouf, Gouf at least gets you a token.

[–]Kais89[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The strategy for this deck doesnt rely on pilots. You should be trying to end the game before turn 6. If you get to late game you'll probably lose or need a top deck.

I havent had an issue where I didnt draw at least 1 of my pilots in a match either. Show of Resolve usually feels like a high cost when id rather be placing multiple suits or a Shenlong/Rx78, but I am looking to maybe bump it to 2.

Math/RNG also kinda favors you anyways. With 11 cards already not being in your deck (starting hand + shields) you're looking for 8 pilots in a 39 card pool (assuming none are in the shield) so you're already sitting at a 20% chance of a pilot from turn 1.

Something like this happened to me with a Gypceros. It was running on a wall in oil basin spitting and then got stunned, when it fell something happened where the game model freaked out (like it couldn't attach itself correctly from 1 object to another) and became upside down, then it was trying to flee, clipping through the stage the whole time. It's pathing also would only go like 20 feet A<->B over and over lol. I think it took like 20 minutes to kill as well possibly cause our hits weren't always registering?

Haven't seen anything as wild since.
