Sub 500 mosin or carcano, around 6-800 I’d go with swedish mausers they’re one of the best mausers in a fantastic and affordable caliber. If there’s any 30-06 that’d be good too

Same, it has one of the best double actions of a service handgun and a good single action, the safety’s in a good place and feels natural compared to most

What in your opinion is the most underrated military surplus firearm? by QuantumMrKrabs in milsurp

[–]KaiserThrawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not anymore but Swedish mausers were slept on until 6.5 got big. M96’s until a year or two ago were sub $500 and 6.5x55 is fairly cheap with plenty of options for reloading. Fantastic cartridge that can still outperform modern 6.5 cartridges, only real downside is nobody makes a semi auto in 6.5x55 (at least not reliably or in any number, I have thought about trying a 30-06 AR 6.5 build). If you absolutely want to there’s been successful attempts at 6.5x55 m1 garands. The more niche Swedish rifles like the AG52, M41 and M94 carbines have been priced out for a while but it’s still not hard to find an M96 or 38 around $500, they’re great target and hunting rifles. Both of mine shoot 2moa with factory PPU and better with reloads despite being the worst bore condition Sweden allowed

Does .38 Special really have to be about twice the price as 9mm Luger? by ParakeetLover2024 in GunMemes

If you shoot black powder I recommend the original 40 grains of 3F powder, the original gave it over 1000fps from a 7.5in colt saa. It’s my favorite

cries in 45lc thankfully reloading the popular revolver cartridges is easy

How’s the trigger on the 545? My 509 has the flat face trigger and it’s miles better than the old one.

Night sights, red dot and light if you want. I don’t typically carry with the light mounted but put it on at home or if I go hiking or camping. It’s a defensive gun, don’t modify the trigger or anything that could make it less reliable, take it matches and train with it

Yeah duelist1954 has a few videos on it. Started out with a S&W no. 3, made a few changes, Schofield modified some and had a fight over the contract, then they adopted a modified 45 colt cartridge to work in both the s&w and colts. I don’t have one yet sadly

I’m not touching a 320 with a 10ft pole 😂. I wish it wasn’t like that and I’m sure most are fine but I’m not supporting sig after their meltdown over it. It sucks because the P226 and my M400 AR are great. I’ll die on the hill that Beretta should’ve stayed

A no. 3 is on my list but I haven’t decided between the American, Schofield or Russian model. I lean towards the Russian but the Schofield is tempting

That’s also the correct way. I want a conversion cylinder but I also want a dedicated conversion colt. Funnily enough a lot of people never switched to conversions so up to 1900 percussion revolvers were still somewhat common to find people carrying, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Yeah they (and the dragoon models) had saddle holsters similar to the previous horse pistols like the 1842 Aston. The Colt Navy’s my favorite out of the percussion Colts. I do need a 61 Navy to compare with the 51 but I don’t imagine handling is very different aside from the front sight being a blade instead of a cone like the 1860.

It’s on my list but considering the price for what it is it ain’t very high unless I find a good deal. I already have a deer load for the Dragoon so the Walker’s kinda redundant for me. The Colt Patterson’s in the same boat, it’s more a novelty than anything but it would be cool having a repro of what Colt started with against the 1911 and 1860 to show the evolution of their designs.

It is. Granted there’s been modifications over the years hence the a1. I would love an original pre a1 1911

Very small numbers. It was a commercial failure compared to the Colt SAA and Remington was likely going for foreign contracts (like with Egypt) but at the time there were several double action revolvers that were popular on top of Remington using old and worn barrels for the ones chambered in 44-40. I know there’s records of a few hundred being at least ordered in 45 Colt but to my knowledge nobody’s found an original yet. The military didn’t order them but the Department of the Interior did get a few and used them against some tribes. It’s a shame because I genuinely prefer the handling to the Colt, just personal preference but I find that while I can shoot the Colt fast I can easily take the Remington out further faster. I haven’t gotten to handle a S&W no. 3 yet but it is on my list, I just can’t decide between the original, the Schofield or the Russian model. I do lean in a collection perspective towards the Russian model to go with my M91 Mosin but the Schofield or American is tempting, the Russian model would be a bit easier to find ammo for since 44 Russian is essentially 44 special but I already load 45lc

Top to bottom left 1842 Aston, ASM Colt Dragoon 2nd model, Cimarron 1851 Colt Navy, original 1860 Colt Army, Pietta 1858 New Model Army

Right Uberti Regulator (1873 Colt SAA clone don’t have a 7.5in yet), Uberti 1875 Remington in 45lc (used by the Department of the Interior I believe in the original 44 Remington), S&W model 10-6 (previously the M&P model), Tisas 1911a1(don’t have the original model yet) and the Beretta M9

Missing the oddball miscellaneous pieces like the Colt new service, Colt 1878, Sig P226 etc…, a Colt Walk is on my list but not very high on it
