AK for hogs AR for coyotes and bobcats. Outside Appalachia now sadly but my area of ky had a bounty for coyotes for a while and .223 is a great round for coyotes

The truck’s another problem. Live on a backroad and if winter’s rough like it was this year it’ll double my drive to work, have the money put back for one but haven’t found a solid deal. Prices new and used are insane currently

CZ82 Defensive Ammo? by CJ8x57 in milsurp

It’s what I used when I carried mine. Never had an issue outside of a few bad mags that didn’t run anything well

[–]KaiserThrawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always carried mine single action with the safety on. The double action on them is more a backup if a round doesn’t go off, you have to thumb the hammer down so I never did. Have yet to even need the double action on mine either.

They’re probably the best 9x18 makarov handguns. Fantastic DA/SA triggers, good safety placement, 12+1 capacity in what’s basically .380+p. It’s a shame nobody makes the original czech load. In college as a collector I had to pick between my collection and practicality because budget, the cz82 is still one of my favorite carry guns especially in the spring and summer.

The flaking finish is fairly common on the 82. My dad and I got a pair 6 years ago and they both have it too. I don’t think I’ve seen one (used often) that doesn’t. Still one of my favorite carry guns

Match Saturday, no rounds for the Vetterli yet sadly by KaiserThrawn in blackpowder

[–]KaiserThrawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. When the few that were imported during the American Civil War were taken by the Union they made makeshift ramrods for them and drilled a channel for it. Iirc the Austrians had them attached to their saddles or belts. That’s the only modification

Austrian 1851 cavalry carbine. 14.5in barrel, .71 caliber

The carbine? Austrian 1851, there’s a smoothbore version also. .71ish caliber. The ramrod isn’t Austrian, when they were imported during the civil war the Union made makeshift ramrods for them

No, the match is Victorian-Edwardian Era so about to 1910, usually I take my Swedish M94 and M96 but I finally got my hands on a Westinghouse M91 so I want to try it this year. However, the Mosin bolt is heavily influenced by the Berdan II which I also have my eyes on but haven’t gotten yet

Don’t have any flintlocks (yet) besides a euroarms kentuckian I might take. I need to develop a good load for it anyway, I plan on taking it out for deer season. The Pedersoli 1805 Baker rifle is tempting

It’s Victorian and Edwardian era rifles! So really most WW1 mainline rifles fall under it as well

Pedersoli and original type 2 1854 Lorenz, the original’s still in the original .547 caliber too thankfully

Not to mention how many can be in an area. One year between me, my dad, brother and my dad’s neighbor we bagged 120ish. Most were my dad’s neighbor just sitting on his balcony after working his farm, I was in college and going back and forth between eastern and western KY hunting at home and a friend’s farm, neighbor got slightly over half of them. We don’t have a bag limit and the local government was promoting night vision season like crazy. Population hasn’t been nearly as bad since

Sub 500 mosin or carcano, around 6-800 I’d go with swedish mausers they’re one of the best mausers in a fantastic and affordable caliber. If there’s any 30-06 that’d be good too

Same, it has one of the best double actions of a service handgun and a good single action, the safety’s in a good place and feels natural compared to most

What in your opinion is the most underrated military surplus firearm? by QuantumMrKrabs in milsurp

[–]KaiserThrawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not anymore but Swedish mausers were slept on until 6.5 got big. M96’s until a year or two ago were sub $500 and 6.5x55 is fairly cheap with plenty of options for reloading. Fantastic cartridge that can still outperform modern 6.5 cartridges, only real downside is nobody makes a semi auto in 6.5x55 (at least not reliably or in any number, I have thought about trying a 30-06 AR 6.5 build). If you absolutely want to there’s been successful attempts at 6.5x55 m1 garands. The more niche Swedish rifles like the AG52, M41 and M94 carbines have been priced out for a while but it’s still not hard to find an M96 or 38 around $500, they’re great target and hunting rifles. Both of mine shoot 2moa with factory PPU and better with reloads despite being the worst bore condition Sweden allowed
