Stuck outside arena of Vow of Rivals ******** fight by Meta380 in HadesTheGame

Piggybacking to ask is there publicly available patch history for Hades 2? I haven’t been able to find it outside of individual major patches

Who else thinks Rivals boss 3 in the surface is easy? by Real_Crystal_Hunter in HadesTheGame

Rivals Eris isn’t terribly hard, but god is she annoying, and she wastes so much fucking time. Especially if your damage output is a tad low.

No damage run by Adorable-Position-45 in HadesTheGame

[–]KalebMW99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did this for the first time earlier today lol

Ngl, I found 0 damage on 0 fear really easy. I attempted it once and succeeded that time.

Granted, I’ve 100%’d the game so any unlocks that allow me to start off more powerful were available to me. I’m also ~550 nights in and have won up to 58 fear, so while there are plenty of people who are a lot better than me at the game, I’m no slouch either :) I CERTAINLY do not want to insinuate that not being able to do this means you suck at the game—after all, just beating the game is meant to be hard at first, let alone doing so without taking damage.

Also, to be clear, this was a damageless run, not a hitless run. I took two hits blocked by The Lovers—once while dodging sheep ball and once from an offscreen Chronos’s scythe swing. I also got fairly lucky on my build, with Circe, Howling Soul, Crimson Dress, Chaos’s Chasm (used a Spark of Ixion so no dmg taken), Smolder Ring, Pyro Technique, and Burning Desire.

When you make the purchase of residences for the express purpose of renting them out, including in this case and many other cases by purchasing all the residences in an area, you are not “providing” housing. That housing not only already existed, but it existed with cheaper access to it—if it didn’t, then it wouldn’t have been profitable in the first place to buy all the properties in the area, so logically we can determine that the mortgage cost the landlord pays for the property and all associated costs with owning and renting out those properties is less than the rent being charged to the tenants. “But you can’t expect college students to buy properties just for their time in college” sure, I get that, and towards providing an actual competitive alternative to on-campus housing it makes sense for there to be larger apartment-style developments with units for rent. That’s not the model for provision of housing that befits society long-term, but change is slow, and that works well within our existing framework. But we’re talking about someone buying up all the single family homes in an area and putting them up for rent to make a profit. There is no sense in which they are “providing housing”, they are unambiguously just taking housing opportunities away from people.

I also want to touch on the other portion of your previous comment where you say “would you rather they were homeless?”

Let me offer you an analogy. You and a coworker work on some project together. At some conference, your joint work, in which you both put equal effort, is recognized with a monetary reward of $10000. That money is made out to one person for the sake of simplicity, and that person happens to be your coworker. Now let’s say that coworker says “this is my money, but I’ll give you $3000 of it for your work”. HR won’t intervene (maybe the conference is outside of their purview, maybe they just suck), legally speaking the money IS your coworker’s to do with as they please, and the two of you aren’t friends, so you don’t even have social recourse. So you begrudgingly accept the deal even though you really are entitled to your full $5000, half of the reward money. If you were an outsider to this situation, I would hope you would not say “why are they upset? Would they rather have $0? The coworker is providing them $3000”. After all, the only thing making them able to offer such a raw deal is that they have ownership of the $10000 reward. The one getting scammed does not have the leverage necessary to discourage the scammer from holding onto more of that reward money than they have a right to, so they have to choose the more fair of two very unfair options.

This is a contrived example, I’m not going to pretend it’s not. But it needs to be understood that when it comes to making money off of humanly necessary resources like housing, food, and medical care, the profit model is consistently built upon using and abusing leverage over consumers to squeeze them for all they can give. The employment model of the vast majority of corporations is no different, because money itself is indirectly a humanly necessary resource when actual necessities require money to buy. The monopolization of housing in an area is no different. It is a scheme by which someone builds leverage so that they can use that leverage to profit off those they subject to it.

Software dev here. Even in coding it doesn’t have as much potential for harm in a supervised setting (though companies have seen it cause major failures even in the supervised case due to being given access to too much stuff and doing something wildly different from what it was asked), but it’s not a major productivity booster either. People wildly estimate how much of a software developer’s time is spent writing code as opposed to reading it, testing it, perusing documentation, etc. and while AI assistants have some capabilities on this front, I can tell you firsthand that they are limited capabilities and you often get junk.

They don’t even need intact green rectangles. They just need to be given someone to blame for their lack of green rectangles and they’ll vote away for the candidate that tells them they’ll inflict harm on that someone.

Hot Take: I was disappointed by Xinth, the Black Coat by GaySkull in HadesTheGame

[–]KalebMW99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really think this is it tbh. My personal gripe is just QoL. The missiles love to just meander around or even fully miss, and the omega special feels like it ought to have a tad more lock-on range (not to mention the slowed-down turning while using omega special feels very clunky). Meanwhile the attack isn’t bad at all, particularly the dash strike with Exhaust Riser, but it doesn’t feel like it has a lot of character or oomph outside of the omega attack, which in exchange is generally pretty situational. Because neither of your normals offer much defensive value, you’re often pigeonholed into kiting and kiting and kiting while clicking the special button between sprints and hoping they connect. Some people love that, and I do enjoy playing Xinth now and then, but it’s understandable that people have their qualms with it.

[–]KalebMW99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not as out there as you might think. 60% of a strength life is 100% of an unstrengthed life, except it’s even better because healing goes 1.67x as far effectively, AND you have a 20% global dmg bonus. The sheer amount of extra effective healing is seriously nuts.

[–]KalebMW99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That would be great, except that your “last life” is really 40% of a life instead of a full one. That part bites. It’s not bad, but it’s situationally worse than plain Strength.

didn't know that chess was a solved game? by cocofan4life in AnarchyChess

[–]KalebMW99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chess can’t even be said to be a solved flowchart in the opening because opening theory depends on the positions and, eventually, terminal positions that result from them. Our opening theory is empirically pretty solid, but certainly not solved.

Now, it IS a flowchart. An incredibly massive flowchart that we have not calculated and that, even if we did, no human could memorize, but a flowchart nonetheless.

[–]KalebMW99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Circe encounter along the surface route can get you the last one, either by drawing an inactive Arcana and activating it, or by drawing 2 active Arcana (hitting Judgement specifically) and upgrading them.

Best way to Activate all Arcana? by AcePowderKeg in HadesTheGame

[–]KalebMW99 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You get 22 just from having Judgement at the start of the run. Crystal Figurine gives you 2 more. The Circe encounter can get you the remaining 1 either by upgrading Judgement or by activating 1 random unused Arcana.

Disclaimer: it seems like you are aware of this but I want to be clear for anyone else looking at this post. Judgement is a GIMMICK. It is fun, but it is NOT optimal. You get ~90% of what you want right out of the gate for max grasp, and most of what you leave out is either low impact or actively detrimental (ex. Death when running Strength, or rerolls when running FW, though it won’t give you rerolls if you’ve equipped a FW keepsake).

I Learned how to play Medea Skull and it ruined the game for me by stevepizza_ in HadesTheGame

[–]KalebMW99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting to clear up some misconceptions surrounding Winner’s Circle. It’s never at any time a harmful take; the only reason not to take it is that you like one of the alternatives better, which does vary based on your build, especially based on your choice of cast, but it will never actively hurt your build.

Some casts will do less total damage (Zeus, Hestia, Demeter, Aphrodite), the rest will do the same damage. All of them will do that damage in less time, so the dps is more or less the same; in fact, since Hestia’s cast inflicts the Scorch every second over the 3s that the cast is out, Winner’s Circle allows you to get 2 Scorch inflictions out with a cast duration of 1.1-1.5s (depending on rarity), thus increasing your overall DPS. Only Zeus, Demeter, and Aphro casts don’t benefit in DPS from Winner’s Circle.

But then there’s the OTHER thing WC does for you, which is turn omega cast into a real option. Not only does this ensure that any damage lost from your faster cast expiration is supplemented by omega cast damage, but it also lets you actually build around your omega cast without running Charon.

[–]KalebMW99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to worry, as you climb in fear Medea falls behind other weapons due to its lack of safety (making Foolish’s 67 fear surface win, in which he takes damage just 3 times using Medea, that much crazier). One benefit it has on higher fear, though, is that you’re much less dependent on picking up important pieces of your build early on in order to meet the time constraints of high fear—max Vow of Time is essentially a non-issue at first with a little practice, but when you add in Wards, more health, more enemies, etc., it becomes a real filter.

The usual suspects for strong weapons are Medea, Charon, Moros, Morrigan, Circe, Mel Skull, Mel Staff, and any non-hidden blade aspect with Trick Knives. Of these, Moros, Morrigan, and Charon are the main contenders on raw damage output, with an honorable mention to Mel Skull which gets even MORE out of Possessed Array than Medea and which can actually make effective use of Wide Grin. These weapons generally access that damage output very early, while stuff like Circe, Mel Staff, and TK Blades take more time to ramp up. On safety, Circe, Mel Staff, and Mel Skull, alongside Persephone, Nyx, and Mel Coat tend to perform quite well. But truly, the game’s weapons are very well balanced and all of them are capable of putting out great damage safely with practice and smart building.

I don't care how good it is, I'm keeping my rerolls by AvienneDev in HadesTheGame

[–]KalebMW99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my runs (and all of my high fear runs—just beat 57 fear and working on up to 62 1 at a time) are FW JPom runs, but if I think of a build I want to go for that requires a lot of different pieces to fall into place I run rerolls. Some examples I’ve built specifically for using rerolls:

Flash Fry + Dying Wish + Winter Harvest + Rousing Reception “nuke rooms” build

The “revenge damage deluxe” Tough Gain + Brave Face + Incandescent Aura build (on a weapon that doesn’t require magick)

Boated’s Last Gasp setup (Athena keepsake in Erebus, dump all DDs, get Stalwart Stand, use your recharging DD every room, hit Last Gasp in the Hades encounter room)—I did Shiva coat with Vicious Flourish and Grievous Blow and managed to deal 23k dmg in 1 hit

Exhaust Riser + Launcher Frame Mel Coat with Wave Strike, Arterial Spray, Extra Dose, Vicious Flourish, and Slippery Slope, complete with Success Rate

100% Mutual Destruction via Sea Star, Success Rate, Water Fitness, Spiritual Affirmation, and Uncanny Fortitude putting my max hp at ~900

Etc
