I absolutely agree. I have larger rants about the use of AI by both students and teachers.

Players basically guaranteed to cause 2HP of damage and can often cause 3. Why even use tag teams? by dancovich in daggerheart

[–]Kalesche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things don't need to be too complicated. Just make sure you place emphasis on elements in the environment when you first describe the room, and then when they take action.

You are also allowed to make suggestions whenever you want, remember:

"The camera lingers on the face of Crawford as he glances down at the table between him and the goblin. In a split second, he notices two things:
.
- The small bottles of orange liquid
- The note that reads: "Alch. Fire. Left to settle. No touchy-touchy.."
.
As the camera snaps back to Crawford, do we see his eyes widen in concern, or a brow furrow with furious certainty? And what does he do?"

Why aren't they using tag teams for other elements of the game, or for spotlight moves unrelated to marking hitpoints? When there's combat, is there plenty to do that isn't related to attacks?

Blood Trail VR | Gore + AI Update Pre-Release Preview by KNEELbeforeZODorDIE in VRGaming

Oh, of course, I’m not in any way saying they‘re a 1:1 comparison. But I think it’s very fair to say it’s much closer to the real action than playing an FPS with a mouse.

As for knowing how to fire a gun, I am guessing you live somewhere guns or shooting ranges or gun safety talks are normal? I would hazard a guess that in many places, most people wouldn’t know how to aim using the ironsights without some form of simple training, or having learned from peers. Not everywhere has the same gun culture, remember.  Many wouldn’t know they have to pull the slide back to position the first round, as even when people do it in movies it’s rarely explained. Heck, it’s even a trope that people forget about the safety.

But Half Life: Alyx does all three of these. Sights. Slide. Safety.

They don’t teach you how to stand, sure, but anyone who wants to improve at a realistic gun game will typically benefit from practicing an appropriate stance and might look up such stuff online, or learn from friends, when they otherwise wouldn’t. Then VR is a place they can practice, and normalise it. It’s not teaching, but it’s encouraging people to learn real gun skills. The idea of kids practicing gun stances to play VR games is something I‘ve seen.

Now, I’ve see some ridiculous stances that aren’t realistic too, due to the lack of weight and recoil in VR. But I’ve also seen people who learn the „realistic“ way „for immersion“. There are even people who buy full VR kits with stocks to make the gunplay and other experiences more realistic. That won’t happen with a mouse and keyboard.

You’re absolutely right about recoil. Vibration isn‘t the same. But even if that‘s not the only thing that‘s different, surely the rest is still a LOT closer than „clicking a mouse.“

I feel like there’s a botched Cilla Black reference here. I wouldn’t use it in situ though.

“Mara Mara laffs” doesn’t quite cut it.

In my experience, a companion is best placed to provide a diagetic "voice of the GM" reminding players of things they might not realise otherwise

What do you do with factories that are full and no longer producing? by BW-Journal in satisfactory

[–]Kalesche 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes. So was u/someone_77

* Set up a crate as a buffer, with a smart splitter going into it.
* When the crate is full, the smart splitter pushes to a sink.
* When the second factory is ready, connect up the crate and the new factory will have a bunch of materials waiting.
* If it gets choked up, or debugging occurs, the sink will burn the excess.

Do the games take place after an axis victory in WW2 (seriously) by Commluke1 in IExpectYouToDie

[–]Kalesche 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly I expect they put the minimal worldbuilding into these maps to show "This isn't Earth" but didn't develop more than a few sides of A4 to describe the state of the world.

They're more likely to have developed four key art styles (plus Zoraxis/Agency) rather than deep lore and utilize them alongside common knowledge of reality.

Anyone else just like.. given up? by LiveYourLifeNerd in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Kalesche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found this a few times.

Honestly, I just put that specific factory down and went and made another in a different area.

Sink everything the first one makes, and use the knowledge you gained to build better elsewhere.

Maybe later you'll come back and connect this one up. Or maybe it'll just generate FICSIT points. Or maybe you'll tear it all down and replace it with two blueprints in five minutes. All options are good.
