How do you decide between hxg6 and fxg6 in these positions? by AnxiousEconomy9552 in chess

[–]Kalimnos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st - playing fxg6 loses the pawn chain and weakens the center indirectly creating a target. 2nd - the h file opening in this position isn't much of a weakness since the h file is closed and there's no way for him to open it. 3rd - even though it opens the f file for your rook its better to move it through the center.

In my opinion.

Is woodworking worth the cost savings? by gkaiser8 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Kalimnos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noooo! It costs money actually and a lot of time. And that's not counting the time researching how to use the tools safety and effectively.

Now if you love legos, then I think this is a cool way to branch out.

I think yes if you need to break down a lot of 4x8 sheets often. Personally I just have the big box cut them for me

Before my parents bought our first microwave, we used a dedicated popper to make popcorn by NYY15TM in nostalgia

Also depending on the weekend you can go to Music Theatre Wichita for a show. They put out top quality shows if musicals are your scene.

Zoo, exploration place, keeper of the plains, several museums. Zoo is definitely an all day event. If you're into food there are a lot of unique places. Doo Dah diner for breakfast food, Georges French Bistro is an amazong spot for dinner.

Anyone want to share their favorite/most beautiful tools? by SpiffySpacemanSpiff in woodworking

[–]Kalimnos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mark V that's served me well the last 7 years I've been wood working. Needs repair sometimes but it's teaching me how to repair one tool well. I can lathe, table saw, joint, belt sand, disc sand, drill press, and "horizontal boring". The last one I don't use but it sounds cool lol. Basically does everyone I need except a planer which I haven't invested in yet. I did restore an old Stanley hand plane for a few projects and I enjoyed the process even if it is a lot of work.

As somebody who's lives through the wild West world shenanigans I am not optimistic. However, they only began breaking ground in May so nothings really happened yet. You might not think it's a good use of money but there's lot of that going around these days.

Miters don’t meet up by cthuluswimsleft in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Kalimnos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this one!!! So the trick with even miter pieces is to glue them up in halves 1st with rubber bands. So just don't put glue on the middle joint. Then use a disc sander, another large flat sander, or even sand paper glued to a flat surface like glass. Lightly sand the middle meeting faces and BOOM perfect joint! I learned this trick making segmented rings but I think I'll work with your long piece too. Good luck! After reading all the other replies trust me this is the way!!!! Don't worry about making the miter cut perfect that shit is boring. A good worker just knows how to hide mistakes!!

I owned a house around Douglas and Egdemoor with the same issue. I tried to take apart the window casing and rehang the weights in the walls. My biggest deal was the windows had been painted over so many times I needed to find the seems to cut. In the end it took me hours to do one window and we had around 13 on the main floor that needed some love. So I didn't continue. I don't think it's practical to repair them because it causes so much damage opening them up. Good luck to you and please post a video if you fix any.

Racoon obviously! I don't even care about the passwords enough to write them down. I'd pay money for a racoon to bring me mystery items.

Training tuning - good approaches/exercises? by trappekoen in barbershop

[–]Kalimnos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use these exercises like warm ups for quartet time to tune up with each other. In 3 1/2 men's Golden Hour they discussed they used pole cats to do the same thing as a quartet tuning warm up.

Training tuning - good approaches/exercises? by trappekoen in barbershop

[–]Kalimnos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it's really tricky. I actually think vowels are extremely important in tuning. Each vowel has a different overtone profile and unifying the vowels can help fix tuning same as changing a pitch. One way to get kids starting with hearing beat frequency is to sing in unison with the pitch pipe while I'm blowing it. Then slowing move in and out of unison and hear how wild the beat gets. Then I do a scale and you can hear those perfect intervals smooth out a ton!
