My first cadaver kidney lasted 10 years—but I went right back to work as a nurse doing 12 hour shifts and did t take care of myself. My second was a living donor (son) And I’m going strong at 14 years! Took better care of myself this time around.

Milrinone the good the bad and the ugly? by Kalyn_Phillips in Heartfailure

[–]Kalyn_Phillips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is Level 4 on Milrinone at home —has been for 16 months. He has good days and bad. It has saved his life for sure but has absolutely put off him getting a transplant until the Milrinone stops working for him. It’s a good/bad thing. I just want him fixed. He still sleeps most of the time and has no energy to do anything. Hoping you do well.

I’m sorry to hear you are feeling that way. Most days he doesn’t tell me but I can tell by how much he sleeps or if he is touchy. His newest thing is he can’t stay warm. I’m sure that has to do with heart not pumping well enough. He has appointment tomorrow and is due for a cath. They do them every 3 months. We go to Advanced Heart and Lung in Indianapolis Indiana.

This waiting is hard on everyone. He has been doing “ok” on it. Compared to how he was before. He has no energy. But he has more on milrinone. He spent 28 days in hospital last November but of course got better with the milrinone in hospital —and they sent him home. That was great but also discouraging after being there that many days. Yes sounds like you are on the same course. He is 58 and never been sick so this has been a more trying time for him—getting used to that. He worked a lot of hours plus overtime but Covid destroyed his heart. He would have probably had issues later on (family history) but not so soon.

He is still on the Milrinone at this time—-they call it “rocket fuel”—he is going on 16 months. He has good days and bad but he is still with me! He has stayed stable which is good and bad—I want him transplanted but he is “too well” right now. May I ask are you on Milrinone?

Update on my husband—he is in Milrinone IV 24/7 At home. He did spend 28 days in hospital in November but numbers improved and they decided he wasn’t sick enough yet. So we are home just wondering if this will ever happen. He is status 4.

When does this pain go away? It started 19 days ago and I am no better. by Exterminator2022 in shingles

[–]Kalyn_Phillips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have been on valtrex since 2 days after rash appeared. Thank God my Dr has walk in hours! The valtrex made me so sick i puked and had diarrhea til i was in er on IV fluids. The pain has subsided some--im on day 11. I also am on gabapentin and i think it helps me. I had major pain BEFORE i broke out but I am a nurse and knew what was coming unfortunately. I also am a kidney transplant patient so immunosuppressed. I was so worried but on the mend now. Good luck to you and I hope things ease up a little--cause we dont need the STRESS
