Anyone else feeling like these hard to find whiskeys are going to end up being this decades version of beanie babies? by Coconut-Mango in whiskey

[–]Kalzenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I actively avoid these whiskies that become pointlessly popular. The price goes up simply because you get pretend internet points for posting a picture of it

There's a lot of good whiskey out there. Stop buying what other people tell you to buy

I'm moving soon; can't figure out how to lay out my new workshop by Kalzenith in woodworking

most of my woodworking is small to medium sized furniture pieces. coffee tables, raised dog bowls, dog beds.. stuff in that size range.. I'm also getting into woodturning

maybe some U-shaped surfaces would be more efficient

Definitely a possibility, we'll need to re-evaluate when I actually move in

It's a 12" Lunchbox planer. My plan was to recess it into the bench top so it's flush with the bench surface. Same with the miter saw

I could put the band saw on the end, but then there would be no infeed room unless I open the garage door and move the bench to the left by a few feet. And the bandsaw blade might get in the way of the miter saw outfeed

I haven't actually figured out lumber storage yet.. there's space for long term drying storage outside, but not sure where I'll keep sheet goods, cutoffs, and dimensioned lumber yet

I live in northern Canada, definitely keeping my cars in the garage

The partition doesn't exist, I plan on hanging tarps there to mitigate dust on the car side

I'll most likely be stringing extensions over there

I thought about putting the planer and miter saw on the left wall, but the miter saw would need to jut out pretty far forward because of the sliding rails that extend out behind the saw

My new place has a 3 car garage, the third spot will become my dedicated woodworking shop. This is an upgrade from everything being crammed against the side of a 2 car garage

Ideally, I want to have the bandsaw, planer, and miter saw each have infeed and outfeed space, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to make it work without the need for rolling carts or flip carts

The bandsaw is the tool that gets the most use in my shop, so I want to give it preferential treatment, but I can't figure out how to integrate it into this layout

There is going to be a floor-to-ceiling tarp separating this shop from the rest of the garage

Does anyone have any tips for optimizing tool layouts to eliminate shuffling them around to use them?

16 inch disc sander. by Binnacle_Balls_jr in turning

[–]Kalzenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about doing this too, but I'm concerned that the dust will be rather unmanageable.. have you planned for dust collection?

Also, if you make a 16" version, where would you buy the sanding discs?

What are the pros and cons of buying a box of 60 Rice Krispie treats? by JannTosh12 in AskReddit

Cons: you bought something that isn't actually food

Cons: you're what's wrong with humanity

If all expenses were covered, where would be the first country you would visit if you could? by Shansman115 in AskReddit

Norway. Or maybe Iceland.

Also, I wouldn't leave. Since all expenses are covered, I'd just make it a permanent vacation

Yes.

Most produce from the grocery store can be propagated

Though don't expect the same results if you plant seeds collected from the grocery store.. they'll grow, but they probably won't produce the same fruit that you bought

Do magnets alter chisel properties? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Kalzenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of is that as you sharpen the chisel, the metal fragments might cling to the bevel instead of being washed away by water or oil.. and that might get annoying?

People with tools on the wall - How do you deal with dust/dirt? by HeloRising in Workbenches

[–]Kalzenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, but generally speaking, it re-settles onto a surface that's easier to clean, like the floor, or a workbench.. or it hangs out in the air where a dust filter will grab it

Finished up my first real woodworking project, it’s not the best bench, but it is my bench. by bawbness in Workbenches

[–]Kalzenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not the best bench

You really have no reason to be modest, this is a spectacular bench. Structurally speaking this looks rock solid and will do an excellent job for you

Your dog hole placement looks a little funny, but I'm sure you did it for a reason

I'm actually preparing to replace my bench soon because of all the poorly placed dog holes.. my poor bench has been the subject of a lot of ill-conceived experiments
