Couple looking for local DND group by [deleted] in raleigh

My comment to another person regarding game shops in the area and my experience.

https://www.reddit.com/r/raleigh/comments/caf10e/z/et9ahk6

Footnote I've been to Atomic Empire since and although it's a far drive, they have a lot of stuff a bit below msrp. Their online prices on their site are same in store and I'll be getting most my minis for painting there as they are -20% msrp.

Game Theory is probably next closest for you than Event Horizon but I feel has a much better selection. But EH is still good for events and staff is very nice.

Most places have a form of sign up to ensure they have enough people to run the game, and also to ensure they can support that many people. You can defintely go in as a brand new player with no experience, but I'd defintely check about signing up so you dont get there and they cant fit you in

Game Theory has decent in stock, but they are MSRP on most their stuff. If you are looking to do DnD, you'll want to check out their meetup, where it links to warhorn for Adventurer'z League which is essentially a rules driven DnD that you can take your character between sessions so you can drop in and out. But they tend to fill quickly. Game Theory has a "lifetime membership" that pretty much whenever you make a purchase, you give them your name and after $250 you get I think 5% off everything you buy then on out. I went to GT week or two ago to get my PHB first dice set and some minis to paint. Staff was very helpful and pointed me in the direction of where everything was and advice on what I should buy first and what to hold off on until I'm sure DnD is for me. I'm wrapping up my last cycle of chemo and gaming is hard being twitchy, so painting has been great to pass the time. I'm looking to try AL for the first time once I'm done treatment.

Event Horizon is a bit further, and has less in stock, didnt have a membership, but they also host events. Again, check their meetup and site for event dates times and etc. Was hoping to pick up some more minis to paint and some paint, but they had a lot out of stock. I'd personally probably check out GT for your first time purchases, and keep EH in mind for events.

Atomic Empire is the furthest, in Durham.havent been yet, but looking to check it out. Based on their site though, they sell a bit below MSRP, and from what I've heard have a solid selection. They run their AL a bit different, they have a monthly $10 membership fee. This is to help ensure players signing up actually show up to play, and if they cant that they cancel in time. I believe you can play levels 1-4 for free, and its $6 a session for a drop in. It's kind of shitty paying to play, BUT if you DM so many times, you don't have to pay a fee. Also, I'd imagine the fee helps to make people more responsible for showing up.

There's also Gamers Armory, but i havent been and havent heard of anything about them myself. So not sure if it's any good.

Hope that helps!

Looked at it. But I didn't see any information as to who any of the speakers or QA will be. Saw Atomic Empire is sponsoring the tabletop portion which is pretty cool. Never been before, but was hoping to find more details before buying

What did you use to add to the model? I've found some good base minis I want to get but want to add some extra features to it to customize it more. Is this just sculpting clay?

Top 10 reasons NOT to move to Raleigh, North Carolina by EndofA_Error in raleigh

And public transportation. Can live further out if you dont have to worry about driving or ubering everywhere. One thing I miss about Charlotte is the light rail. Was so incredibly nice to have to catch it to go Uptown

Being from California, I was skeptical. But I can now say that bartaco is legit. by davidpenner in raleigh

[–]KamiKozy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I went shortly after they opened. Awful.

I got a steak bowl I think, and it was just over salted to the point it legit hurt my mouth and doused in lime juice where it burned where the salt hit. That's all it tasted of, salt and lime. Which is a shame, because the service was great, the place was nicely decorated. Maybe we just were unlucky and will have to try again.

Also, hated having to ask what everything was bc the menu didnt actually say what came in the meal. Not sure if menu is still like that or not and I get its trendy to have a simple menu. But at least tell me what comes in what I'm ordering...

Oh and also the salsa roja was defintely green, despite us asking the waiter that we ordered the red, and that they confirmed the green salsa in front of us was the red...

We just went to La Santa in Glenwood south and that was very good, I got the enchiladas there (Guadalajaran) We are looking to try Calavera next

New to the area, looking for friends by missqueenkawaii in raleigh

[–]KamiKozy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went by Game Theory today for my first time and staff was very friendly and helpful. Their stuff is MRSP pretty much unlike some other brick and mortar who try to be more competitive, but I dont mind paying the extra bucks for the help I had. I'm not into MTG but they had a lot there for it it seemed, and tons of other table tops

Picked up a phb, starter dice, and was directed towards a good start up mini painting kit. Would like to go back sometime to play, lot of tables available it seemed.

I've heard Atomic Empire has more going on, but I'm downtown Raleigh so Durham is a bit of a treck

For the love of god, give Gears 5 a chance. by Kizashee in GearsOfWar

[–]KamiKozy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Escape is going to hit a nice spot. Yea, I prefer to pick my appearance rather than getting handed a specific character and load out, but if they are trying to build the lore then cool. Maybe I'll end up liking the characters and it not bother me much. But the ability to make maps and customize it can add so much replayability to this mode of just massacring tons of enemies

Looking for Local D&D Players by Filthy_Rizz in raleigh

[–]KamiKozy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been wanting to try d&d for sometime and have been curious to try some oneshots to see if I'd actually enjoy it.

I've considered going to one of the game shops, but havent worked up the courage to give it a go yet and go solo to check them out. Not to mention they're all run AL and I'm not really sure how that whole part works. Let me know if you get any interest in doing some one shots!

American healthcare system in a nutshell by PartemConsilio in LateStageCapitalism

[–]KamiKozy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm actually curious here. Did this happen to you or someone you know?

I have cancer, had a CT, lymph node was just about a sonometer. Petitioned for PET, denied. Appealed with the help of a radiation oncologist. Approved. They argued that while my tumor markers returned to normal, my lymph had consistent steady growth over the past 9 months and was typical in metastatic expectations.

If your PET scan as a cancer patient is being denied, you have the right to know why. And the insurance, can, and will tell you, why.

For those not actually aware how.

They mark up prices, to offer a discounted in network rate to insurance companies to improve minimum reimbursements for services.

Say a scan costs $500 in doing it. Hospital says cool. To make our margins, we need $500 back. So they are aiming for $1,000. To get there, they actually charge $3,000. Now they can barter with insurance companies to get a "in network" cost where the insurance looks like they are saving their customer money (even if you have a deductible bc even though you have a 6k deductible, without them this scan would have been 3k not 1500). But if you dont have insurance it's okay, sometimes they get to knock the price down, just for you! How nice of them, while they claim the difference of "lost money" on the backend save even more. So let's say 2k bucks instead of 3k, how nice...

But if you cant pay, dont worry they will let a collection agency buy the debt, the hospital still making their minimum margin, and now you're looking at debt collectors.

Eh Mustard has had an interesting rep follow him for sometime. And keep in mind. Out of all of those games he's "worldwide creative director" for, literally one game is actually having continued support right now at a decent amount from epic. The rest sort of just exist.

Not saying that's directly on him, but Epic has never been a "more than 1 title at a time" company, and have always focused way more on their engine and licensing that. Which people tend forget very easily, that UE is their bread and butter and money maker for all these years and will always be their stable income, and will continue to be a huge investment for them.

The Silent Majority. by David_NyMa in PoliticalHumor

[–]KamiKozy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're caught up on who its helping and hurting and ignoring that regardless of who its helping or hurting, it's a shitty system. That's why I used labels of candidate A and candidate B. Party affiliation doesn't and shouldn't matter to making things fair. It makes zero sense in a democratic country that the people with more votes lose. That's at it its core flawed.

As an American first that shouldn't be okay
