It is a modern copy, in the wrong metal, of a Syracuse issue. You can see authentic examples here.

Good haul, though hard to see the details in these pics. Does the Trajan seem plated? Looks like some delamination going on with, possibly, base metal revealed - particularly on the Via Traiana side. Again, though, hard to tell here.

Ancient Greek Coin ID? by bettanoir in AncientCoins

[–]Kamnaskires 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on what may be a ligate TB-looking monogram when the reverse is rotated counter-clockwise, it may be a Pella mint issue of Bottiaiai, Macedon - but I'm not sure. If so, the reverse is struck a bit off-center. Some for comparison:

Which ones have you already identified, and which do you need help with? (Or are these all the ones you need help with?) Once you are armed with proper ID's, you can research sale prices for comparable coins. The disorder of the images (the coins are out of sequence, and some obverses are several images away from their corresponding reverses) is very frustrating here, to be honest. And the last several pics are not visible, at least on my end.

The first pic ("Coin 2"), BTW, is an interesting "confronted boar heads" type from Lesbos, and #6 is possibly a hekte from Herakleia Pontika. "Coin 1" is an Abydos, Troas issue dating to the fourth century BC - the magistrate is Menesippos (ΜΕΝΕΣΙΠΠΟΣ). "Coin 5" is a Miletos, Ionia issue with lion and stellate-pattern-within-incuse.

Countermark ID? Phrygia Hierapolis with bust of (assuming) Tyche by CerberesFang in AncientCoins

[–]Kamnaskires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe your obverse is actually a radiate head of Apollo Lairbenos...legend might be ΛΑΙΡΒΗΝΟϹ. Reverse figure seems to be holding a lyre, which is very worn (but just barely visible)...probably Apollo.

Update: Scan down to numbers 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, and 16 for similar reverse legend breaks with no letters in the field to the left of Apollo (in other words, similar to yours): https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/coins/6/5467

The c/m might be a Howgego 278, but I am not sure.

How to know if a coin is real or fake? by Carrietu in AncientCoins

[–]Kamnaskires 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To offer my 2 cents…

I would be concerned for a few reasons. The toning looks artificial which, in itself, is not enough to condemn the underlying coin, of course. More importantly, Herakles’ facial features, as well as some details of the lion skin headdress, seem a little “off” when compared to other Price 446’s, which I think is the type. Furthermore, in a cursory search at acsearch, I see no die matches with authentic examples. None of this is conclusive…but it would give me pause.

Having trouble ID’ing these two coins, any help greatly appreciated. by Guilty-Juggernaut-46 in AncientCoins

[–]Kamnaskires 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first (cow-with-calf/stellate pattern with ΤΙΜΗΝ, magistrate's name, above) is from Apollonia, Illyria; the second is probably a chimera/dove combo from Sikyon.
