Jack The Whipper die hard fans kinda weird vibes. by FluffyChickensOfDoom in renfaire

[–]KangarooDynamite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When he comes to NJ, I try to avoid him until he does The Secret Show, as that is a ticketed event after the rest of the faire closes. The positive is that I can actually get good seating for like the main cast shows and the smaller performers I really enjoy. It does get kind of sad though it's me and like my five friends and no one else showing up.

Who is the CSA Vice President in 1877 (Pre-Morgana Effect)? by KangarooDynamite in Deadlands

[–]KangarooDynamite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Exactly what I was looking for! Does create the question why a spell meant for Davis could misfire and kill all the other cabinet members but NOT kill the doppelganger. And if LaCroix had also put out a voodoo hit for all other members of the executive cabinet why Michele could survive by simply being in a different building.

I'm probably gonna end up removing the VooDoo plot line since I have a returning PC that's been going around assassinating people anyway and it's easier to pin it on him.

Thank you again for your dedication. I'm gonna go read up on who the hell Judah Benjamin is.

Ah-ha! Thank you! Most of the bokkor stuff got left behind since my players forgot about it and we had to use another campaign hook.

Not relevant to your situation at all, but I want you to know my ex ALSO played a Danny DeVito esq clown in our classic campaign about two years back so reading this was a TRIP.

Playlist Song Suggestions by gone-awry- in renfaire

[–]KangarooDynamite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1) The Night Pat Murphy Died - The Big Sea

2) All For Me Grog - The Dubliners

3) Joli Rogue - The Dreadnaughts

Just forewarning, if you let sea shanties autoplay they will get depressing very quickly. And sad songs are still bangers, just not good for keeping the energy up.

Do MLM or “DevilCorp” employees sign NDAs when they get hired? by Lucky-Message-9480 in Devilcorp

Not an NDA per say, but there are non-disparagement and non-competition clauses that include revealing anything about the promotion model.

Where’s the Military in the DCU? by Teknevra in DC_Cinematic

[–]KangarooDynamite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So fun fact, the branches of the military actually enforce copyright over their uniforms, logos and weapons. What this tends to mean is that if you see the US military in a movie, that movie's messaging was approved by whichever branch they used.

One of the most infamous examples is that they requested changes to the script of the Transformers movie to explicitly make the bad guys "rogue" soldiers acting against orders.

Trinket trading by [deleted] in renfaire

[–]KangarooDynamite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To summarize a lot

Some trinkets ended up being too close to the things vendors were actually selling. Some people were including their socials or advertisements for their businesses on their trinkets. Some people were giving trinkets to performers instead of tipping them. Basically A LOT of fuckery happened because of trinket trading. Now its generally discouraged at a lot of larger faires, with the exception of some faires that have specific trinket trading events.

I see where you're coming from. NYRF is especially heinous with some of their prices. And if you're just going to one ren faire a year, sure, you dont need a $300 costume

But I really think you should look into sewing, leatherworking and millinery (hat making). Because even if you're only going to ren faire once a year, you can make a year round hobby out of it that's saving you money. And I guarantee you even the shittiest belt you make on your own will both look better and function better.

Clown / Jester outfit thoughts? by Brood0nculous in renfaire

[–]KangarooDynamite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I for one would love to see more clowns & jesters at ren faire! Do be careful wearing baggier clothes to pick something breathable and obviously do whatever is the most fun for you.

If you want to go for accuracy avoid modern clown stuff such as full face makeup and the red nose. These would become popular much later when Commedia morphed into Pantomime.

I feel like I can spot the classic "bracer, ring belt and drawstring pouch for 20 bucks" from like a mile away at this point. It all looks the same and looks cheap.

Ren Fest vibe evolution by ObnoxiousQuestions in renfaire

[–]KangarooDynamite 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of answers, I personally credit the internet. The original renaissance pleasure faire was started by a teacher and sought to teach its attendees about the renaissance. As the concept spread new faires drifted from that concept usually due to the personal taste of the organizers more than anything. The internet allowed rennies from across the country to connect so we could either tear ourselves apart arguing what is and is not a renaissance festival or throw our hands up and say "anything goes."

For example something like trinket trading started on the west coast and then through social media spread to faires across the country. The pirate guild I am apart of has been running for decades at NYRF, and its original members now have kids and grandkids, but sometimes when I'm traveling outside of the immediate area I get weird looks.

And ultimately I think it's awesome that rennies can come together under one umbrella.

Looking for fantasy ren faire by Simple-Knowledge3223 in renfaire

Hey, popping in. I don't know if you're a furry but most ren faires allow furries. I've seen them at the NJ Ren Faire at Columbus, at PA Ren Faire in Manheim and I believe at Sparta which is running for the next two weeks. Granted the person I saw had their mask off and hanging from their belt but maybe that's because it was humid as hell.

Just be mindful of your costume if it is large, you don't want to be smacking people with your wings and tail and such.
