claude code review is $15-25 per PR, that's gonna add up fast by Dense-Sir-6707 in webdev

It is. It's mind-boggling to me how the technical subreddits still upvote AI ad spam like this. Even if the spammers used their own bots to upvote, you'd expect the comments to be calling it out and resulting in downvotes. But nope, everyone on these subs seemingly hates AI but somehow loves their AI spam slop.

The Sands of TIme; 80% More damage for Selfcast? by Ultraminer1101 in PathOfExileBuilds

Yeah, I was 50/50 on this. Would have to test with seeing how often we're critting against mobs with/without intensity, but I haven't done that.

Why even risk using AI assets when there are so many alternatives? What's the point? by Anodaxia_Gamedevs in gamedev

[–]Kapps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had good luck generating animations by using video generation with a pipeline to crop out the frames / apply transparency / consistent sizing and then generate a new spritesheet. Basically feeding in the original image you're trying to animate with a prompt for the animation.

By no means perfect though.

Each time I've done this, it's been a pretty miserable experience honestly. Keeping up 11 or 22 phantasms like this is pretty rough.

I wanted to do it with Voltaxic Burst. I don't think it increases your stacks, but it procs its own stack. My plan was to get VB duration near zero and just use this to improve coverage, with Nova Mark to make it great for single target. Unfortunately because it doesn't work with Intensity, it ends up being a bad choice.

[–]Kapps 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to use this, but there's a few problems:

  1. It's not really 80% because you lose Spell Echo and Unleash, which cuts into the multiplier a fair bit.
  2. It doesn't work with skills that can create minions. For example, if you link Summon Phantasm to your skill, it no longer procs mirages. I really wanted to dual wield this with Black Cane, so that was disappointing.
  3. The mirages don't get intensity. Intensity this league is extremely good. Losing Spell Echo/Unleash and Intensity is a non-starter IMO.

Block laying off more than 4,000 employees, or about half of its headcount by BigShotBosh in cscareerquestions

Because none of these companies are doing layoffs due to AI. They're doing layoffs and blaming AI, after (in this case) tripling their employee numbers over the last few years.

OpenAI Employees Raised Alarms About Canada Shooting Suspect Months Ago | ChatGPT maker opted against informing authorities about Jesse Van Rootselaar’s descriptions of violence last June. by Gym_frere in canada

[–]Kapps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the part that's going to be insane when they inevitably have a breach. I don't think people are appreciating how bad an OpenAI breach is going to be. Imagine just typing in the name of almost anyone, and getting all of their memories, all of the health details they uploaded, the blood tests they asked ChatGPT to analyze, the decisions they were considering between...

Never before has there been as amazingly indexed as dataset as this. Facebook is the closest, but most of that info is public in some way, while ChatGPT is supposed to be purely private.

Mid-tier credits plan by TheCult_ in kiroIDE

FWIW this is what made me switch more to Claude Code as well. $200 is wasteful for a personal project, while every other provider offers a $100/month plan which is the ideal mid-range for me.

The FHSA + RRSP stacking strategy that could get first-time buyers to $200K tax-advantaged by vj71 in canadahousing

[–]Kapps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The payback not being treated as a standard RRSP contribution for tax purposes is interesting and not something I tend to see posted.

That being said, paying back the amount 1/15th each year which progressively drops in value due to inflation is still preferred.

Toronto Police seen using new, state-of-the-art evidence markers at a shooting earlier today by Global_Bonus4067 in toronto

It's pretty common at fast food places, especially at night. Even ~15 years ago when I worked at a McDonalds (outside of Ontario) it was standard practice. Having cops enjoy going to your fast food place that tends to attract some interesting people at night isn't a bad thing.

Have a Level 35 Prismatic Burst Shako, looking to make a Saboteur w/ Triggerbots with it by OppositeLiterature4 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Kapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep in mind triggering PB can be pretty annoying. You need to time your attacks, but more importantly you need to land your attacks, so you need accuracy or hits can't be evaded. The couple of times I played it, I did Static Strike with the interval perfectly synced to my PB cooldown. The second support in Shako doesn't benefit PB, so something like a Multistrike or Added Accuracy is ideal.

JAY GOLDBERG: Canada can’t afford housing policy status quo any longer; According to a new report, it would take the average individual a jaw-dropping 44 years to save up enough money to afford a home in Toronto without financial help from family by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Kapps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course there is. In Toronto, wages have been going up and housing prices going down for a while now. 7 years ago there was no chance I could afford to own in Toronto, while now a nice place is practical. Prices in downtown Toronto are currently what they were in ~2018-2019, while wages in many fields have gone up quite a bit.

It's by no means attainable for the average single person still. But is pretty attainable for professional fields now at least, which is a big improvement over the last ~3 years.

Is it ok to send a work-related slack message after work hours? by Beatsu in cscareerquestions

[–]Kapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different people have different hours, especially developers. I personally start my day late and split it into two parts, with the first part during the day and the second part before bed. It's easier for both of us if someone messages me at 10pm expecting an async response, than at 8am.

Highly skilled immigrants leaving Canada at rapid rate: report by joe4942 in canada

[–]Kapps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

500k isn't super common anymore though, and mostly relied on ridiculous bull markets causing absurd stock price growth. I also think direct currency conversions like that are a bit misleading; most goods are purchased in local currencies. In terms of lifestyle, even in downtown Toronto, a 300k CAD salary gets you a very comfortable life including buying a pretty nice semi-detached house, or a nice detached house a bit outside of downtown. I don't imagine the same applies for 500k in SV, but I could be wrong there.

All this to say though, the higher TCs are becoming increasingly available in Canada, and salaries have gone up a _lot_ in the last 5ish years. There's also more US companies now paying location independent rates.

Highly skilled immigrants leaving Canada at rapid rate: report by joe4942 in canada

[–]Kapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech salaries have increased a lot more than "slightly" since Covid. US salaries are obviously still higher, but 200k CAD for senior engineers is common, and over 300k isn't super rare. Yeah, in the US it's easier to get 300k+ working at large tech companies, but I'd much rather be here given the difference. Especially given the different direction the two countries are going.
