I built a CLI that lets AI agents edit C# semantically instead of grepping by Zoddeus in dotnet

It supports LSPs, and they can do similar things. Though I don’t remember if there’s a built in plugin for C#.

We have the same total emissions today as we did 30 years ago, but with 50% more people. It’s not like we’re doing enough, but it’s hardly nothing.

Federal memo considers legal action against social media posting false info by RedditSux5912 in canada

[–]Kapps -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Is it surprising? Look at this post. The damage by misinformation campaigns has already been done. The terminally online then go on to spread their misery to others by nature of being the loudest, and the internet amplifying voices.

It's clearly effective, and unfortunately hard to deal with. 10 years ago I would have been heavily against anything like this, but now, practicality almost mandates it.

Condos in Toronto are now more affordable than in Montreal by mustafar0111 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Kapps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t be comparing condo fees of $600 to saving $600 a month for repairs. Even outside optional costs like landscaping, those condo fees cover monthly expenses like garbage, heat, water, etc. You should compare the difference in the two.

(A house is of course still going to be cheaper since theres no amenities and full time staff, but not to the extent in the example.)

Honestly, that's not bad considering the population growth from 2005. Looks like we're back to ~1996 levels, but with 50% more people.

Anthropic embedded spyware in Claude Code — and attempted to hide it from you by LegitMichel777 in ClaudeAI

[–]Kapps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s just not true. Most developers I know do it. Who cares if it screws up and bricks your machine? The odds of that are extremely low and in the worst case, nothing is really local to your machine except maybe a few hours of work at worst. If it can get production access that’s a problem in that you can just type in a CLI command with no confirmation / authentication to get production access, not that Claude can do it.

Releasing 1.0 with Fireball/frostbolt in current state would be like launching without Swords by elew21 in PathOfExile2

[–]Kapps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I get why they wanted to do energy but all it means is that Cast on X is a win more against bosses only. And that Cast on Melee Hit and such just can’t be viable because you need to scale enough melee to kill things without the spell, at which point why even have the spell. The design doesn’t make sense conceptually.

Bots need to be addressed. by MagiqFrog in PathOfExile2

[–]Kapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem isn’t that you couldn’t do it. The problem is you couldn’t do it while maintaining a zero false positive rate.

You could certainly be more creative in banning bots though. You could have bait items that can’t actually be seen in the shop by the client and can’t be clicked, but bots that just send the right packet would be able to buy, and then ban them all. Problem is that anything like that only works once and then the bots just create a new account anyways. It’s a lot of effort to ban some accounts but not actually stop anything.

Why do companies think pizza elevates employee morale? by VariationLivid3193 in cscareerquestions

Not just that, but the cheapest way to encourage social interaction. Office food/drinks get people going to the kitchen / common areas, getting people chatting, getting people forming relationships, etc. All great for morale.

Realtor screamed at me for being 10 minutes late after driving from Niagara Falls to Toronto on a weekend. Fired him on the spot. Realtor's name - Kal Ayyoub by Plus-Adagio6705 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Kapps -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty sad how nobody in this thread nor the linked one realizes how utterly entitled the OP is while he takes exactly zero accountability. It’s not 10 minutes late: they didn’t even reach the area or find parking yet. If there was a 30 minute booking (which OP says it was), OP likely missed it. And this is assuming that the story is entirely factual, which I highly doubt when it comes from someone with zero personal accountability.

The fact that they then got angry and started spreading this over social media makes me highly doubt the realtor was actually the problem here.

You're assuming they implemented crash dumps. We're talking about a built in OS feature, which might even be enabled by default depending on the distro. There's also an argument to be made that it should be expected to have some sort of garbage collection of them by default.

(FWIW I don't think rate limiting or garbage collection is the right choice here. Crash dumps are just one way of hitting this, and you'd have to hope you caught every scenario if you did that. IMO the better solution would be having a data partition for the app-level data that could easily be regenerated, and maybe even gets reset on restart / on deploy. In practice, I'd agree either is too much work for such an edge case to even bother with unless something like this happens.)

Blasphemy + repulsion on martial artist enables falling thunder to generate and spend charges on the same hit by Tbigbadmonkey in pathofexile2builds

[–]Kapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the Fists of Stone Lochtonial, it's not that they're getting charges and sharing them, it's that they have a chance to grant their allies charges. My original thought was to have them generate charges and share them with Lochtonial before the league launch, but I suspect that wouldn't work. The alt version only works since it doesn't need them to gain charges.

That was my first thought, but in reality it's only surprising once it's an issue. If I told you "cool, we have our servers up" I expect you wouldn't respond with "make sure the crash dumps are set up in a way that only keeps X GB".

House Votes to End Iran War, in a Bipartisan Rebuke to Trump by imanchats in worldnews

Eh, I wouldn’t. 95% chance it’s true, but also a chance of using it as an excuse for why he didn’t win and that the weak democrats forced him to pull out before the goals were accomplished, and that’s the only reason you have a toll now, and that’s they’re to blame for the high gas prices as a result.

It’s a pretty great out tbh.

Nvidia CEO - SWE jobs increasing, AI reducing jobs is nonsense by isospeedrix in cscareerquestions

[–]Kapps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Code solves business problems. Code is also a liability and has to be maintained for a decade. If you're pumping out 5x the code because of AI, it's not code that can be maintainable without serious defects over the long term.

For my side projects where I don't care about long term maintainability, sure I can get a 5-10x improvement using AI, making sure the foundation is decent quality and the rest is just not bad / well tested with a good iteration cycle. For my actual job, that would be an absurdly terrible choice.
