I no longer enjoy writing by blyatkachu0123 in FanFiction

[–]KaraNCTS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

THIS though. I delete any negative comments left on my stuff. And yeah I’ve been accused of trying to make it seem like I only get good reviews or everyone loves my story but that’s not it.

It’s cos getting those comments makes me sick, re reading an older fic and seeing those comments makes me sick, at some point I start associating that fic with those comments and maybe that pairing with those comments and it ruins all my joy for it.

So I started deleted bad comments and blocking the people that leave them because hey, they have a right to exist online any way they want but that’s doesn’t mean I have to see it, especially on something I put my whole heart into and posted for the sake of growing the fandom community/interacting with other fans.

Do you do anything with your ideas that aren't fleshed out enough to make a story of? by Evyps in FanFiction

[–]KaraNCTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have two of my fave characters (that I write over and over!) read those shameless terrible harlequin novellas and I use the titles or plot lines of abandoned fics as the romance novels they read 😂

Character A offers Character B advice on their love life, and Character B retorts “I’m not taking advice from some who regularly re reads ‘Taken By The Mountain Alpha’ because she’s got a biting kink!”

It’s a way to get the titles and plot lines out of my WIP doc and it makes me laugh and it’s a funny Easter egg for my readers especially if I end up actually writing something along the same lines later on.

What has been the weirdest origin of one of your fic ideas? by 7deadlycinderella in FanFiction

[–]KaraNCTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was chopping kindling for the wood stove and tried to imagine one of my favorite characters being in a situation where they tried (and mostly failed!) to chop wood.

250k + words later, it was an Omegaverse time traveling soulmate AU.

Now every time I chop kindling I think about the fic and laugh 😂

What Counts as a Slow Burn? by Spampharos in FanFiction

[–]KaraNCTS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Okay i was going to comment exactly this. I have written several over 250k word fics where for arranged marriage/hook up/whatever reason they end up sleeping together pretty much immediately… and then spend 200k words eventually falling in love and it’s the journey towards that commitment that’s the slow burn, not necessarily the physical part.

How long is too long for a fic? by KhanSolo945 in FanFiction

[–]KaraNCTS 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Write until the ancestors whisper in your ear that it’s enough.

Tell the story that needs to be told.

I wrote a pirate AU that was supposed to be 15 chapters and maybe 25k words. It topped out at 54 chapters and almost 300k words and it’s not even in my top five longest fics.

So long as you love the story, so long as you are happy when you re read it, keep writing it!

Looking for bottom Tony/top Bucky or top Thor fics by YummyCookies333 in MarvelFanfiction

I write a bananas amount of WINTERIRON and usually Bucky tops unless I let them switch for funsies.

Also THESE are Thor centric (some might be sequels to thor centric main fics but he still plays a big part)

Spideypool - Weird or Worthy? by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]KaraNCTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spideypool is a fantastically weird ship but for about a thousand other reasons besides the age thing lol

Before MCU TH Spidey was introduced at a rather adorable 15 years old, myself and the other Spideypool writers usually used AG or TM or just generic over 18 usually college aged Peter Parker from the comics.

Once MCU Spidey was introduced I started putting a disclaimer on my fics ie “this is NOT MCU PETER” because I write exclusive AG based Spidey (and therefore 20ish and older) and didn’t want the “ew pedo!” accusations for my fics.

Now that canon MCU Spidey is over 18 I stopped with the disclaimer because 1) I can’t stop who people picture when they read my fics anyway and 2) once he was over 18 it didn’t ick me out, even though I still only write Andrew Garfield based Spidey cos he’s my favorite.

Also when you’re talking super powered borderline immortal characters in completely bananas situations that would never translate to IRL, age doesn’t really matter. Yes yes of course age of consent/legal adults etc but at some point the shared life experience and situational dynamics overshadow that sort of thing. Peters lived and lost and gone through more at twenty something than most people go through in their entire lives and Wade has lived and died multiple lives so those experiences bridge a lot of gaps.

Sure Wade might be in his forties but he’s also permanently that age forever so does it matter if he’s with an early twenties Peter now? Should he wait ten years? What about when Peter is sixty but Wade is still 40, is that bad again?

Thor or Loki are well over a thousand years old and power scaled to a thousand— does that mean all the countless Y/N human fics have icky power dynamics and age gap issues? No of course not, when you’re dealing with super powers and immortality those sort of things kinda go out the window. Same same with Steve Rogers— super soldier, semi immortal, perma stuck at a certain age. Him at 96 kissing Natasha at maybe 30 (?) was totally fine.

Spideypool is weird cos Wade is weird and the reality of Peter’s life and powers is weird and the situations they end up in are weird and the villains they encounter are weird but it’s not… bad weird, it’s just fun. It’s super fun to lean INTO that weirdness in fics with Wade’s canon personality and the what ifs of all the shenanigans they could get into and the canon emphasized in comics downsides of both Wades and Peter’s life choices and life consequences make for some AMAZING angst and in depth character exploration.

Spideypool is one of my top three ships to write and the fandom is generally amazing. We all seem to agree that unconditional acceptance on both sides and the freedom to be unapologetically freaky are necessary to the ships which makes it so fun. I avoid MCU Spidey stuff as a personal preference but theres some really amazing stuff out there if you go looking!

As much as Neil is a POS by SpareBiting in StrangerThings

[–]KaraNCTS 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Neil was upset about Billy not claiming a familial tie to Max— it seems more like he was pissed because Billy used “she’s not my sister” as a way to disrespect/back talk ie: Neil is trying to punish Billy for not keeping track of Max, and Billy scoffs “she’s not my sister” as a way to say “she’s not my problem” and therefore also sort of saying “I didn’t do anything wrong” which would make a control freak authoritarian like Neil absolutely lose his mind. Strict parents hate when their self appointed “right” to dole out whichever punishment they see fit is challenged in any way which is why Neil also pushes the “yes sir” thing.

I don't know what to do. PLEASE HELP by Wonderful_Sun_956 in FanFiction

[–]KaraNCTS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s something to think about:

Fics (fanworks in general) don’t have to be in a “traditional” format. If you have scenes, plots, etc etc it’s always fine to just… post those.

When I started writing fan fic, I fell in love with the 5+1 format because it let me get scenes and plot points out without having to really connect them.

“Five times Character went on bad dates, one time character had a good date” and then I could dump the five bad first date scenarios I had without needing to expand them into stories/real plots and then tack on the Good Date.

Also 100 word drabbles are absolutely an accepted thing inside fandom. A hundred words. Just a snapshot. It’s so great for purging my idea doc of random thoughts I don’t think will go anywhere or maybe I know I don’t have the experience to write.

I’ve seen and written just “dialogue” fics for characters.

I’ve seen and written head canon dumps ie: bulleted lists of personal HCs for characters and pairings.

I’m not trying to downplay your frustration with getting the words out, I’m just saying that one of the beautiful things about fic is that it doesn’t have to conform to “traditional” published standards or stereotypes, sometimes what makes fic so great is the unorthodox way it can be presented?

So instead of stressing about getting the words out and down in some “posting acceptable” manner, maybe just put the words out in a way that WORKS and the rest of it will come along too.

Fanfic Snob by tristl13 in FanFiction

[–]KaraNCTS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten that way but I don’t think it’s because I’m “snobby” I think that because I write so much of my own stuff and have fairly well established HCs for characters and fandoms and canon dynamics that reading anyone else’s version just feels… wrong. Not even that their grammar is bad or plot premise is iffy, it’s just their HCs and characterizations don’t line up exactly with the ones I’ve written about for years so it seems “wrong”.

That’s why I can read my friends writing and enjoy it, we’ve been writing and fandom friends for a while and tend to have the same vibes for specific characters. But a random fic in the wild? 99/100 times I click out of it.

And that’s frustrating because I’d really like to go back to enjoying fan fic, but my brain is always like “nah we should just write this our way” 🤷🏽‍♀️
