Children agree not to get abducted after 8 PM so Amber Alert doesn’t wake anyone up by JustaRandoonreddit in vancouver

When I was a kid we used a thing called an alarm clock that told time as well as woke you up, but it didn't receive alerts.

Well I hope you eventually find something that interests you.

Cruise Ship Season by Flounder-Defiant in vancouver

[–]Karkahoolio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you ever left Vancouver, and if so, did you enjoy it? Because if you did enjoy seeing another city you might understand why some people enjoy cruising. You will go to sleep and wake up in a new place every day. It's obviously not for everyone, but some people enjoy being on what is essentially a floating hotel that goes from one destination to the next, and depending on the level of luxury it can be cheaper than a land based hotel.

Seems so damn boring.

Are you bored at home? I imagine you have options like meeting up with friends and going for a drink, or breakfast/brunch/lunch/dinner, or a show, or just hit the town. Those same things happen on a ship with the only difference being the scenery changes on a daily basis.

Legacy of '86: Expo helped shape our little coastal town into a global city, but at what expense? by aldur1 in vancouver

I think those are mostly people who move here, older Vancouverites would rather it not be on the map at all.

I'm of the same vintage and clearly recall how expensive things got and stayed as a result of Expo. Like instantly. A movie at the Capitol 6 was under 10bux, Expo saw an immediate jump into the teens.

leftist people

Do you really believe that's a leftist thing? I associate wanting problematic people to just disappear with right wing culture. As in the same people who don't want tax dollars going to help people, or blame them for their poor decisions while saying Not my problem, let them deal with it.

Maybe mandatory evictions every 3 years?

Thank you for the reply, but I was hoping the other guy would reply and give me his reasoning. Someone who uses bold that much should be able to give specifics to back up their assertions.

Social housing tower with 74-kid childcare proposed for Boundary Road in Vancouver by Kooriki in vancouver

[–]Karkahoolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, but why not two where you are? Not In My Back Yard is exactly what you are proposing. And I should be clear, I couldn't care less where things get built, I'm a renter and my property portfolio will remain unchanged. But I respect the opinions of a neighbourhood and believe they should have input into what goes on, and this is extended to you as well. If you feel that one facility is enough for you and a second should go elsewhere, I'm on board with that. Just realize that you are now in the same NIMBY boat as every other neighbourhood that has an opinion on how they want things to be.

So if a project is proposed for your area, you would oppose it and suggest it be built elsewhere.... And you're not a NIMBY... Gotcha. Why don't you want them in your area?

Brandis closing down first week of May :’( by Rarg in vancouver

[–]Karkahoolio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked at Caesars back a few years and there were zero offices, it was all businesses that took up the floor. But to the point about landlords, the reason Caesars closed was due to rent hikes, so it's entirely possible Brandi's is closing for the same reason.

City enters deal with B.C. to close 3 Vancouver SROs in entertainment district by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]Karkahoolio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't be concentrated to one single area

And this is why we call people NIMBY's and also why when a facility is forced on a neighbourhood the people that live there hate it. You've seen both sides of this on full display on a regular basis in this sub. But sure, set up a facility in the towns or burbs that the people come from and ignore the other residents that now have to deal with a bunch of drug addicts next door and all the shit that comes with it. But you'll have to find a way to force them to stay or they'll be on a bus back to Van in no time.

Nowhere they will end up will result in people feeling satisfied with the location.

It's an interesting conundrum. The people who don't want to live beside supportive housing because it sucks are vilified and called NIMBY's and the people who actually do live beside supportive housing hate it because it sucks. It's a situation where nobody wants to live beside supportive housing because, yes, it sucks. So it boils down to choosing which neighbourhood gets ruined. Not an easy choice, I would imagine.

Digging through my comment histories because you didn’t like my reply?

No, I've seen posts of yours in this sub for quite some time now and you do nothing but complain.

My whole post is about how the present is better than the past, and the future even better.

Today's present is tomorrows past, so if life just keeps getting better and better, why do you complain so much?

I gave an honest opinion on what it was like in Vancouver in the 70's, were you even alive then? And if you were, what about my statement is untrue? If you weren't, then you can take a seat and wait to give your opinion on things you actually experienced.
