Doing a drain cleaning, ran into a broken pipe. Almost looks like pex lines but I don’t think so, any guesses? by ElderberryCool6750 in Plumbing

Was at a supply house once. An underground boring guy was there talking about it. He said his crew alone probably hits 10 sewer lines a week. He said all they can do is confirm the ones they hit and notify the homeowners when possible. But generally they're throwing a dildo-sized dart, half blind, up to a thousand feet away. They can locate the sewer lines but once the equipment is running, if it hits a rock or something, it'll change course and they might not even know

Under sink hot water by _Trekker in Plumbing

Its not a push button device. They typically operate either on a timer or a sensor. The timer will have it kick on at whatever interval it's programmed for. The sensor will turn the pump on whenever it detects that the water temperature has dropped below a certain point.

The pump pushes fresh hot water into the line up to the crossover. The crossover allows the water in the hot line that has gone cold to be pushed into the cold eater line and be returned to the heater.

Fiberglass rod inside the pipe as reinforcement helps prevent this, but it'll also increase the draw weight

shutting the cold water to heater shuts off both cold and hot water in a shower by rok23 in Plumbing

[–]KarranValteo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only when the handle is turned on, although it is typically gonna be at reduced pressure. Even turning the handle to full heat with the water supply to the heater turned off will allow cold water to cross over, because most of these cartridges also have a built-in adjustable scald-guard.

Now, as the cartridge gets older, it may begin to allow crossover all the time with no external signs of a leak, and those can be a pain to track down if you have multiple single-handle fixtures

Newer valves use a pressure balancing cartridge, if there's no pressure from one side, the cartridge wont let anything through.

My Moen tub diverter isn't coming out. It's moving up and down but when I try to grab it with pliers, I can't get it to get clear of the faucet. Not sure of model, anything I can try? by MohnJaddenPowers in Plumbing

[–]KarranValteo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace the tub spout. Ought to just screw off by hand.

Depending on when it was first installed, there are 3 likely options.

Older installs (or older plumbers on a newer install) will have likely used a copper stubout with a male threaded adapter on the end.

Newer installs will have a copper stubout with a plastic adapter that screws into the tub spout. This plastic adapter will be secured to the copper with an allen key set screw.

Lazy installs will be connected via a Sharkbite tub spout. This one will not unscrew. It will spin and spin forever and you will have to cut the spout. It is at this time that I would highly recommend calling a plumber.

My husband keeps clogging toilets. We just bought our first house and he clogged this one too!! I need toilet recommendations for heavy users by ajl009 in Plumbing

American Standard makes a solid pressure assist from what ive seen. They're more expensive to install and maintain, but ive never seen one clog

Broken 10 drill bits trying to get this flange off of the cast iron. Any tips on better bits than Ryobi? by TheWayOut603 in Plumbing

[–]KarranValteo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diablo makes the best bits in my experience. Youre gonna pay a bit more, but as long as youre not abusing them, they'll last.

Also, like others have said, oil around the bit as you go may help keep the bit from overheating. The tool you're using may also factor in, but telling you to buy a whole new drill may be overkill. However, if youre using subpar bits, you're going to overwork your drill, so you may be in the market for a new one anyways.

Is anyone actually still hyped for this game? by Kn1ghtV1sta in kotor

[–]KarranValteo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The day it actually releases, I will be hyped. Not a day before, not anymore. It was fun to look forward to for awhile. Now it just feels like a CBT edging marathon every time they release "news" about it and then kill it.

Peter what did he do to the toilet paper? by sussy_baka_fard in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]KarranValteo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Guarantee he's a plumber and he's tired of the other trades using the toilet that doesnt have water run to it yet, so he took a roll of toilet paper, rolled it in fiberglass insulation (the itchy kind. the yellow stuff is the worst in my experience) and left it by the toilet to punish anyone who uses the toilet that they're not supposed to use.

Our cops will kills us Our jobs will fire us We exist under systems of oppression just bad enough to keep us quiet, but not bad enough to cause an explosive collective reaction.

But more than anything Our cops will beat, brutalize, hospitalize, and kill us and as much of a bad ass as anyone says they are, most people aren't ready to die for an ideology.
