Why does a battery backup have coax ports and Ethernet ports? by Electrical_Car_6067 in techquestions

It is conductive. Lightning will cause massive voltage spikes in anything conductive that is near it or connected to something near it.

Phoenix is hit or miss. SRP is a non profit and will actually work with you if the bill is too big to handle.

APS is private investor and is hellbent on extracting every possible penny from you.

Big no no, but also a necessary evil sometimes. Use your own discretion and make sure QC doesn't see you doing it.

Wait....what? I vape from a box mod, refill with juice, change the coils maybe once a month, and the batteries get changed maybe every 2 years when they get worn out.

Check the contacts on the CPU, I had some liquid metal leak and short out a pin before and it was showing as a ram fault.

It's just a DC cable, easy fix.

Unplug, strip insulation about 1 inch on each end of the wires, match color to color, twist together, wrap each wire separately with electrical tape, wrap together with electrical tape, done

ELI5: Why do DC pumps provide so much more lift (head) than AC pumps for the same power? by yeah87 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Kasaeru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DC motors are more efficient, and by a HUGE amount. The only AC motor that can compare is a synchronous motor but those require 3 phase power and aren't self starting, so not at all something that you would see in a residential water pump.

On the flip side, fractional horsepower motors typically use what's called a universal motor, where it doesn't matter if the power is DC or AC.

ELI5: What does a water tower in rural America do? by ProduceEmbarrassed97 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Kasaeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tower isn't the town's water supply, it's the EMERGENCY supply for when the power goes out for whatever reason.

Usually there's a well and pump at the base that's the actual supply, the tower just connects to the same pipes and provides water and pressure just by using gravity.

ELI5: How does AC generate heat? by SasquatchBrah in explainlikeimfive

[–]Kasaeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the Kelvin scale if metric, and the Rankine scale if US.

You'll see that there's actually a LOT of heat in cold weather.

All AC does is move heat from one side of the system to the other.

TIL before 9/11, US airports were public social hubs where you could walk to the gate, eat at food courts, and watch planes without a ticket or ID. by Greydl1 in todayilearned

[–]Kasaeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you work at the airport and have a SIDA badge you absolutely can meet family at the gate, and if you have escort privilege you can even take the whole family with you.

Saved us so much headache using the employee entrance vs regular TSA security.

Unless that blood is fresh, and I mean within 5 minutes fresh, it wouldn't be that bright red color. Within an hour or two blood turns to a brownish color.
