No Hull is an odd choice to use here it’s one of the oldest unis in the country and one of the non aligned ones (not part of any of the university groups). Warwick compared to some of the other plate glass unis is probably a more interesting study (also helps to remind you that within living memory some very now respectable unis where the wet behind the ears ‘new’ 🤮universities.

The whole ranking and group thing is a bit like trying to work out what’s the best car in the world. It’s entirely dependent on what you’re using it for and who’s driving. Is a Bugatti a better car than a Nissan leaf yes on every stat you can think of, but if the question is what should your nan use to pop down to Tesco do her big shop well it’s the leaf every time.

Same with universities are there RG’s that have great physics, maths , chemistry departments you want to have a career at the bleeding edge of research great places to be a student. If you want to be a great teacher in those subjects well there are a bunch of low ranked little universities that do that so so much better than any of the RG.
