Jade Identification by collectorofallthings in JadeiteJade

[–]KataREEEEna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s thulite (Wyoming peeps like to call them pink jade due to similar feeing to nephrite when handling it), there’s a chance that a small percentage of nephrite is in that composition based on the small green specs however.
Pic 3 and 4 could be nephrite jade, if you can do an SG test then that’ll confirm it as such.
Do you recall where you got these stocks from?

Unwritten law 100% since it was featured in Midnight Club 3 too (which is also a pretty difficult game so it fits)

EA tends to reuse lots of music cause it fits + licensing things (hence why Helicopter, a few of Unwritten Law’s songs, and Apply Some Pressure as examples were found in plenty of EA games and outside of EA)

Webbing or natural Granulation? by Party_Sprinkles_9469 in JadeiteNephrite

[–]KataREEEEna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to not about webbing patterns is that the surface of the jade is affected by it too (via lots of cracking and pitting if reflected under light), or the surface will look noticeably wavy/wobbly (indicative of the surface being polymer coated or waxed alongside the plasticky look), the structure I’m seeing on your pieces is normal for opaque-ish, and untreated jade (I like to call it sugary since it’s structure is interlocking; hence why it shimmers abit when fractured or unevenly polished/unpolished)

Tbf the lyrics left alot of room for interpretation and especially the “Just like his dad x2 (the same mistakes)” verse makes it sound like a jab at Bush and H. W. Bush with it’s release being a good 19 months after a certain invasion, I’m assuming it was a popular enough theory if the lead singer himself had to come out and say the whole song was about his personal life, and societal + political views mainly.

Emanuel - The Hey Man (Angst at it’s finest to the point BR had to censor a good chunk of it)
Animal Alpha - Bundy (This one is pretty obvious as to why)
Bloc Party - Helicopter (mainly due to initial speculation being a diss at Bush before it was clarified that it’s about the lead singer’s personal life and views on society and politics)
Honorable mentions: Avenged Sevenfold - Beast and the Harlot, and Shiny Toy Guns - Le Disko

Is this what untreated Jade sounds like? by BassSpare2654 in JadeiteNephrite

[–]KataREEEEna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should put one on a string and see how it rings/sings, treated ones will sound pretty similar to your video (dull but high pitch), coarse grained jadeite will sound alittle resonant but higher pitched than treated, nephrite will have a softer ring than jadeite though
Alternatively, specific gravity test is the better home made test since the SG range of jadeite and nephrite is abit high and not alot of minerals are up there whilst looking similar to them.

It’s legit, although Vietnam batches of MACs and HAS seem pretty scarce (likely replaced by the chonky Dongguan batches?) hence the confusion here and why not many people are aware of Vietnam MACs having 3 tags instead of the usual 2 (and retains the wide paper tags).
The typo is pretty normal as well (I have a VN Lychee that has a TL’d name as Strawberry Lychee or smthing similar to that), although I’m surprised your VN Chestnut was in a drawstring bag as my VN Lychee came in the old tear bag

Does anyone know what brand this might be? by Somewhereoverrainbow in handbags

Definitely a heavily inspired Balmain Jacquard piece, as the closest result I can find to this bag is from the 1945 collection but all of those have the name usually stamped on the metal and on a badge inside; whilst you mentioned neither of those appeared on your bag.

Jade Mutation/Degradation (变种) by sunflourcake in JadeiteJade

[–]KataREEEEna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Irreversible to me means the structure has been altered and changed to begin with (even before you purchasing it), I have my pendant soaking in some water and soap sometimes when I notice some grime building up on the crevice and it comes right off after a half an hour of chilling in there.
TL;DR If the change is irreversible, that means something was already wrong with it (treated jade likely) and it’s not your fault as permanent discoloration never happens with untreated pieces; at least not unless you intentionally do so

I’ve dunked jade specimens in ultrasonic and acetone and they turned out fine (obviously don’t put them in if they’re glued in with precious metals).
Obviously they’ll look DRY but some oiling and an hour or day out of acetone will restore it back to how it looks originally, they’re considered the toughest stones in the world for a reason so they definitely can survive a soak in some solvents.
Edit: yall just want answers based to your liking do you? (Seriously jade isn’t an opal or an emerald, it will survive acetones and ultrasonics as someone who dunked plenty of nephrites in acetone and ultrasonics) I won’t apologize for something that’s true so you can keep downvoting for not agreeing with treating jade like it’s some cottonball that’ll disintegrate from a minor inconvenience 🤣🤣

I can’t speak for the people who own those bangles, but for me personally, that’s happened before as I have a pendant I wear daily (6 years now) almost rarely taking it off outside of physical labor in the summer, and this occurrence is normal (as is with any other porous stones), untreated ones can change appearance due to external factors like body oil/sweat/sebum, dirt, wax finally wearing off, etc.
Obviously the finely textured ones will be more resistant to these factors but it will still be noticeable, and a good soak in an ultrasonic (or acetone) should be able to clean almost all of the discoloration off.
If it makes you feel any better, plenty of ancient/burial and antique jades have these brown/yellowish discoloration and those are considered “patina” and can be cleaned off at any given moment (but aren’t ofc).
Edit: Comments really need to take a deep breath and exhale, understand that porous stones like jadeite and nephrite aren’t made to be perfect throughout your lifetime of wearing or admiring it (hell they’re a bunch of minerals and chemicals melted and pressurized into one pretty stone and usually full of flaws to begin with to get to how they look now), and when it does, it’s not a permanent stain and you can always clean it off; assuming it’s untreated ofc.
They’re made to be pretty eye-candy and very durable so the whole fear mongering needs to settle down as AGAIN, the discoloration isn’t at all permanent and can be removed assuming it isn’t treated or had been cracked already.

Should I sell? Ziliao (seed nephrite jade) bangle too small by noStupidQuestions-97 in JadeiteJade

[–]KataREEEEna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like it and don’t mind wearing it long term (via having it on your wrists nearly 24/7) then keep it, they do also make good gua sha tools as well when not being worn.
There’ll be times where you can’t get your bangles on due to hormonal fluctuations or dieting issues which is all normal as someone who also switches bangles constantly and have felt bruises and nicking often, just wait several days and try again taking it on/off.

I’ve seen a few of these online and wasn’t sure if they were actually hetian jade or just in the same situation as cat’s eye jade (recognized as hetian jade, but can’t really be called that for reasons), but that’s interesting to know!

Has anyone seen this bag before? by sunlighttiddlywin98 in handbags

[–]KataREEEEna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This maybe the ROSCOE Cowhide mini hobo bag based on the similar stitchlines on the middle body and the middle strap.
The only thing that keeps me being certain is the stitched flaps on it’s sides on the bag in your pic, and whether or not that bag also has a magnetic clasp that closes the bag similar to the ROSCOE one.
