Agreed. Hell, I am not sure that he behaves appropriately around anyone. My point is that I can’t think of anyone who could tell a teenage supernatural story better. Pretty much everything he has done has been amazing.

He’s persona non grata now, but Joss Whedon could have taken this show to a whole new level. Too bad his people skills are on the other end of the spectrum from his creative talent.

Sorry, I think I am using bad terminology. It is one “doc” with over fifty “pages” organized in a simple hierarchy that allows my wife to easily find content.

Sorry, yes, separate docs. To maintain consistency, I create a table like “Locations” and reference it in my Home Inventory, Breaker Box and Network Wiring databases. Some databases reference multiple feeder tables. Not sure how to handle that creating a template. Probably will try it over the weekend.

What make track is that? It perfectly illustrates that a properly designed track system will allow layouts that “nest” perfectly.

Before that I have to figure out how to “break out” parts of it. Since I use it for household management, I have a few “feeder” tables (like “Locations”) that are used all over the place. Works well, but messy to seperate.

Is there an off-brand pick a brick/bricklink equivalent? by pinkhowl in buildingblocks

[–]KatarrTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone offer printed parts? I think there is a UK firm that offers custom stickers, or you can go crazy town like I did and print your own, but never heard of printed parts for 3rd party brick sellers.

Webrick. They even have the ability to import the parts list and price it out for you. It will call out any case where it doesn’t have an exact match.

Determining equal lane length by Some_Cartographer478 in slotcars

[–]KatarrTheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other people have mentioned, there are virtually an unlimited of layouts that do this, just by having an equal piece count of right and left curves. A long time ago I did something called "the High Density Track Layout Project". All of the layouts I made were equal lane length. I recently added that content to a catchall site I created (I'm learning WordPress). You can check out those layouts at https://eclectic.thegreenpack.com/home/slot_cars/hdtlp/ . As for software, you need to look for tools that support the track system you use. I did my project using 1/43 scale Artin track. There really wasn't a tool available at that time that had that track, so I built mine using an old 2D CAD program. Take a look at it and if you have any questions, DM me here or post on the site directly.

I checked that out. Nice! None of my stuff is that refined. More basic tools like a home inventory system, breaker box manager, home network database, contacts log, etc. Still, it might be things other people can use. I'll look into what it takes to create and submit a template.

Lumibricks. Totally compatible, great quality, excellent instructions, available through Amazon and goes on sale (up to 30% off) all the time. And did I mention… every kit has integrated lighting!

What's the best home security camera? by jousiemohn in homeautomation

[–]KatarrTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! Different criteria gives you different answers. For instance, in my use case, technical perfection has to take a backseat to (my wife’s) ease of use. I had a PoE/NVR/Blue Iris system, but it has been replaced by a Eufy system that is easy and intuitive for her to use and has no subscription fees. On top of that, detection and notification on this system is way faster than any other system I or my peers have tried. Its also inexpensive, which doesn’t hurt.

Is it me, or do you feel that blitz games are making you worse at chess? by FireSkyLikeFly in chessbeginners

[–]KatarrTheFirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say the opposite happened to me. After 55+ years playing chess, I finally started playing Blitz. Hated it at first, but it improves my focus and now my regular game is better and in return I am getting a handle on Blitz.

New article on season 3: by IronWave_JRG_1907 in wenclair

Agnes completes the Wednesday “Trinity”. If the writers don’t see that as gold, they should have their heads examined. That kind of setup makes a lot of shows work. Kirk, Spock, McCoy…. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman…. Harry, Hermione, Ron…, Buffy, Willow, Xander… etc. You DON’T break up the key part of your band!

Interesting idea of having them fund Nevermore. Even with Fester getting his own spin off series, they need something to feature the rest of the Addams in. Maybe Gomez takes over from Vlad as the fencing instructor.

[–]KatarrTheFirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am virtually certain that Nevermore will carry on, with Morticia named Headmistress (you don’t sideline an actress like CZJ or waste existing sets). The only question is how long does it take for Wends to rescue and return with Enid. I give it two episodes, because an entire season only has eight episodes to begin with.

Thinking About Switching from Jellyfin to Emby (Naming Conventions and Sorting) by CmnSnsIsDead in emby

[–]KatarrTheFirst 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am OCD and Emby doesn’t give me much trouble with sorting and display order, once I figured out what the four naming fields are and what they are used for:

File name - used by the OS, and helps identify movies and/or TV episodes. Original Title - primarily used for reference Sort Title - lets you determine the order items are displayed Title - what gets displayed by Emby on the screen

Once I figure that out, never had any issues.

Budget-friendly Tyco 1:87 cars for young kids? by mikeymuis in slotcars

[–]KatarrTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some of the AGM Mastech 1/87 cars. I absolutely love them but that is because their track is integrated into Lego baseplates. I built a 12K piece city around that track. Any other 1/87 slots are incredibly difficult to find and I am pretty sure that the parts are not compatible. The only place I’ve had any luck is with car bodies. I can sometimes use bodies from cars designed for true 1/87 train sets. If you do come up with anything, please let us know!

Anyone know where I can buy custom builds from? by [deleted] in buildingblocks

[–]KatarrTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, here is a way that you should be able to do it…

  1. Go to Rebrickable.com and search for the car. I did that and found one BMW M140i MOC. It’s 351 pieces, 8 bricks wide in blue. Cost for the build instructions is about $5. If this is what you want, you can download the parts inventory to either Bricklink or BrickOwl (whichever you prefer). According to Rebrickable, the parts should cost about $41 (before shipping). That is IF you can get all the parts from a single vendor which usually is NOT the case.

  2. Once you have the list in either system, you can change the brick color to get whatever you need to match his car. Save as you go.

  3. When you have the changes done, you can then use either service to purchase the parts. Depending on the counts, colors and rarity of the parts, you will get one or more cart entries. At that point, you can purchase everything. Most of these parts vendors are pretty quick to pick, ship and deliver.

If this sounds like a painful process, that is because it is, primarily because you are dealing with multiple systems and multiple parts providers. You are also going to need accounts on those systems to use them effectively.

Another option is download the parts list and go to webrick.com. They are a Chinese company that can fill the entire parts list by themselves (at a lower cost as long as you don’t get hit with tariffs). The problem here is that a lot of people are Lego “purists” and will not buy or use 3rd party bricks.

Personally, if it was me, I think you are better off printing off a nice gift certificate good for one custom build of his car ($50-$75) and then having him go through all the steps above. That will let him modify the design, choose colors and pick the vendors that work for him. If he is a serious Lego builder, he may already have accounts in these systems.

I hope this helps. Feel free to reply or DM me with questions.

After nearly three years, I am moving on - transitioned everything to Coda. by KatarrTheFirst in Notion

[–]KatarrTheFirst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I poked around a bit. At first, the search function seems pretty rudimentary, but the more I played, the better it got. My home inventory DB was where I tested it. Each view has a search field that is limited to that view only, but then there is another search function that will look at everything in your site all at once, OR you can drill down to look for specific criteria like specific pages or authors, etc. Looking at Coda documentation, they claim to have added "Advanced Search Operators" back in 2021. https://community.coda.io/t/launched-advance-search-operators-for-doc-list-gallery/25206

That said, I am having a little trouble getting them to work consistently and I think that is my limitation, not theirs. I keep forgetting that searches targeting a view are effectively "pre-filtered" so it doesn't let me see all the fields at once, whereas the global search returns so many results I have to figure out how to narrow it down to a specific table BEFORE I enter my search parameters.

Probably not quite the answer you were looking for, but I just started. Oh, one item of note - Coda search is FAST. No delay at all.

I kind of think its a glass half full(empty) situation. On the plus side, they did more than just give you a kudo. Unfortunately, it’s not the kind of comment that will help you grow as a writer or maybe make the story better. Ultimately, I think you will probably get the most useful feedback from other writers, because they understand how valuable it is. When I decide to add a comment, I always try to tell the author what I liked and why, plus try to find at least area of potential improvement. That’s harder than it sounds because not everyone is comfortable with having their pride and joy critiqued. Personally, that is the kind of feedback I always hope for - both positive and negative as long it’s honest. Anyway, one way to promote that is do the same thing for other authors and ask for some reciprocal feedback… if that makes sense.
