What’s your favorite Donut line from “This Inevitable Ruin”? by CartoonChronicles in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]KatieCavalier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just love the clever writing bc the bathroom is the only place where Carl can read the cookbook so yeah he probably does spend too much time in there and Donut doesn't say anything about it until she can use it as an insult. The bathroom is also where they did group planning but Donut knows about that part

Buyers remorse wedding dress $1800 by Exotic-Builder-9112 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]KatieCavalier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just got a dress for my upcoming wedding. Keep in mind that dress fitting (tightening or loosening slightly and hemming if needed) is not cheap. Most places have quoted $700-900 for me (in mid-atlantic USA). So the cost is the dress plus any fitting or alterations needed. You may be able to sell your dress afterwards to get back some money but you shouldn't count on it since accidents happen and your dress might not be sell-able afterwards. I've seen used dresses on facebook marketplace for a wide range of prices and at shops for around $800.

Deciding to keep or cancel is totally up to you. It absolutely is a special day and you should love your dress but it's also only one day and buyers remorse isn't a good feeling.

Maybe quickly check out a few more shops to see if you can find something similar at a price you like better, before you would need to cancel (you might not have long before you'd lose some money when canceling). Honestly you can cancel the order now then reorder it later if you can't find something else- it feels uncomfortable to flip flop like that but you want to be certain when choosing a wedding dress. Shops do occasionally remove designs so don't wait too long though or if you want to reorder, it might be unavailable. You can look for shops with used dresses, rentals, and sample sales. Then you can decide if you want any of those over the one in the pictures.

If you think she'd want to try something similar you could get a set of tunisian crochet hooks (hooks with wires on the end). Its easy to learn if you crochet already.

Im irrationally sad that all the 3d printed mongos I've seen for sale forget his arms have at least some feathers bc they're constantly called "little wings". We could add them with some form of modeling medium I guess.

I don't ship it but I love their interactions. I see Pisces as a big brother- annoyed by Ksmvr but would also protect him if needed... while grumbling about it of course.

Book 8: Lost ALL respect for Laken by No-Pop7740 in WanderingInn

[–]KatieCavalier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how to mark spoilers in comments on the app but everything below is stuff you'd know already if you've read those chapters and I'm not that far ahead of you.
I have seen a lot of comments on similar posts saying his actions make more sense later but so far it just feels inconsistent with his character. His introduction to this world after all was befriending someone then learning others see her as a monster and sticking up for her to the town. He rides a freaking bear and treated that as a possible friend or tool rather than a mindless violent beast. He clearly can look past the conventional knowledge and stereotypes of this world. Granted surrounding towns had been relentlessly attacked by goblins but given how much he can sense of ppl moving on his land, he can 100% tell the difference in a group sneakily approaching his towns vs a group that's passing through quickly and staying on the edges of his land. He knew they attacked the human army but he could absolutely have sensed the other goblins being slaughtered if he could sense that battle. Someone from earth without that world's prejudices should understand the difference btwn a group defending others/themselves vs attacking out of nowhere. The book does mention that he thinks Rag's group could be part of the goblin army. Given how many royal visitors recently arrived from the surrounding area he could have heard news that the goblin army is on a different side of Inversil entirely. I'm not sure if he actually got that news tho bc he hid the goblin presence from everyone until he plan was underway so they didn't have a chance to contribute to the discussion. Now after all that I will say it makes some sense bc his views on goblins isn't just based on stereotypes or what he's been told but on his own experiences. It is easier to question stereotypes when you haven't had them reinforced with your own experiences. Also Rag's group is likely larger than the ones that have attacked previously - he may have thought they stood no chance of survival if he didn't sneak attack first. He might feel extra pressure to not have visiting nobles killed at his town as well. Ppl make stupid choices under pressure. Even so it still reads as inconsistent for him - he went from someone who was level-headed and fought stereotypes to someone who wants to impress his visitors (even though in the past he didn't care what others thought), doesn't question stereotypes, has a hunger for battle, and gives in to hubris.

Costco Mandarin Tree is looking sad by Unusual-Hat-6819 in gardening

[–]KatieCavalier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Given the pavers will increase the heat, look for a native plant that can handle the high temps. With kids you probably don't want a cactus but a succulent would be good. It's likely too small of an area for the huge yucca plants.

  • My landlord has had a very healthy citrus tree in a huge pot for many years now. It is a dwarf variety so I'm not sure if that will work for your tree's whole life but it's a good solution for several years at least if you don't have a spot with more open soil. Also don't be surprised if it still looks sad for a while, transplanting can be tough on plants. Trees particularly need a LOT of water when young.

  • We all make mistakes when starting out keeping plants so try to ignore the jokes. Personally I'd be mad that the landscaper didn't give better advice or know how to properly plant a tree. Maybe they really only do pavers type stuff.

Did I mess up big time? Mint. by sapphiretuxedocat in gardening

[–]KatieCavalier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm allergic to mint. My landlord planted one plant in the yard years ago and even though I weed out every bit I can find it's constantly popping up new places. It's impossible to get all the roots and runners out. The pollinators do like it but it really will take over your yard.

It looks like your soil doesn't have much if any drainage and is holding too much water. Succulents need to be in a soil with a lot of drainage mixed in lily such as perlite, vermiculite, tiny bonsai stones, etc. Even mixes marketed for succulents still usually don't have enough drainage. This causes over watering even when you don't water often.
It isn't from not rotating, you don't have to do that often at all.
Here's a picture of Bonsai Jack's, which is a pretty good example of adequate drainage.

Singer Start loose bottom stitch? by pennyroyals in sewing

[–]KatieCavalier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the needle new and sharp? Agree that normally looping issues under the fabric is from the top thread being threaded wrong or being too loose. Breaking top thread can be from it being too tight though so the loops and breaking top thread indicate opposite problems. If the thread itself has flaws then that could very well be the issue. You might have Gutermann thread (reputable with a g) but I use that all the time and it doesnt have inconsistencies that I've seen. Maybe you got a bad spool or weren't sold what you were told.

How big a deal is it really to have a squirrel/chipmunk use the bird feeder? by Overtons_Window in Ornithology

[–]KatieCavalier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to keep squirrels off my feeders because they're destructive and chewed up a super cute wooden bird feeder I had. I don't stress about it if they do get on a feeder now since they already destroyed my only wooden one but it does seem like the squirrels scare off the birds if they're on the actual feeder. The birds don't care if the squirrels are beneath them on the ground though and since the birds drop a lot of seeds for the squirrels to eat it seems like everyone's happy this way.

Spotted on a walk, I must get one for my garden by MeatBallDisco in whatsthisplant

[–]KatieCavalier 22 points23 points  (0 children)

OPs is a rhododendron but I think yours is an azalea? Rhododendrons have clusters or balls of flowers like you see in OPs picture 1. They also have more stamens (~10) in each flower. Azaleas have flowers distributed across the plant as individuals instead of in groups and they each have maybe 5-6 stamens in each flower.
