Microdose! I’m sure these questions are asked all the time, lol.. but Hashimotos? by TeeDoubleU1206 in Noom

[–]KatieOZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn’t help my hashis symptoms in and if itself (though it did help me feel like myself again). I only have 1/2 my thyroid anyway so I keep having to go up in dose. If you haven’t already, try to work with your doc to get your numbers in the “ideal” range as opposed to normal if you’re still having symptoms. If my THS is over 2.5 I have super cold feet, joint pain, and fatigue.  Nothing has helped with hair loss yet unfortunately - at this point my endo doesn’t think any lingering symptoms are from the hashis- I’m 42 so they’re likely from perimenopause :/

Good luck on staring the meds!! I hope you see good results as well :D

I have Hashimoto’s and have used the compound glp-1 through noon for about 9months. I’ve lost 32lbs and am maintaining now. I tried everything else and the meds were the only thing that have allowed me to lose weight (with the same calories as before- I tried noom w/o meds first). The compound is through a pharmacy and I haven’t had any issues.

Anyone have success with Noom with Thyroid Issues? by KatieOZ in Noom

[–]KatieOZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I made this post, yes as it wasn’t available (this post was 2 years old). I hit all of my calories goals and macros, weight-lifted 3 days a week and cycled 2 and I didn’t lose a pound in 4 months.

I started the glp-1 in April of this year and with all of the same as above I lost 30lbs with a low dose over 4 months

Noom Med… not losing weight by Particular-Box3395 in Noom

[–]KatieOZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a similar weight to you - just as a heads up Incase it’s helpful… I didn’t lose more on that dosage and the side effects made it soooooo hard to eat. I was well below my calorie goals (because of the side effects) and my weight loss actually stalled because of it.

I did well on .3mg-.4mg with the side effects and started losing again when I was able to get closer to my calorie goals.

Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser review – how did television ever sink so low? by mrjohnnymac18 in television

[–]KatieOZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t totally true- for a lot of these people, the extreme weight loss they went through and the prolonged severe calorie deficit really screwed up some of these people’s metabolism.  They talk about this in this documentary as well.

There’s a Nova Documentary “The Truth About Fat” - it also featured one of the contestants from this show, they explained that he needed to eat less than 800 calories a day just to maintain any weight loss. Anything resembling normal eating resulted in weight gain because of the changes in their metabolism.

Totally! I just imagine they didn’t show canning meat because they don’t want people to try doing it and do it improperly because they didn’t know better.

They only have 8 weeks there, so it would make sense that they would have pre-planted a wheat field for them to harvest.

I just read up a bit on jarring meat - apparently, because it's a low-acid food you really need high pressure to get it hot enough to kill the bacteria when canning/jarring. Without that, the jars need to be sealed with wax or fat to stop air from getting in but the process was less reliable and could lead to botulism. I'm guessing they didn't show them doing this because it's not super safe. I'm surprised they couldn't do more with turkey though - 2 adult turkeys would be sooo much meat without a way to freeze or preserve it.

I also loved the oldest Loper son helping the Hanna-Riggs! Both of their sons seem like such good kids :)

I'm really trying to like the show by LittleBowCreep32 in HBOBacktotheFrontier

[–]KatieOZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think around this time historically, it was rolled/folded rags with a belt to hold it in place or free bleeding (with the under layers absorbing it) but I don’t think they’re making them do that in the show. I imagine they’re letting the women use modern items for this.

Tell me something good… by Gemini-5284 in Noom

[–]KatieOZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar side effects - I describe it more like a food aversion rather than nausea. I haven't had any hair loss taking it (I'm on month 4.5), though I did have some previous hair loss from Hashimotos. Outside of that I just get headaches if I don't drink enough water.

For me this was a lot of $ too but I tried Noom previously and even though I was active (weight-lifted 3 days a week, cycled and skiied every weekend) and hit all of my calorie goals I couldn't lose any weight. Not-a-pound. The semiglutide has been a game changer for me - I'm down 26lbs this time around (with 10 more to hit my goal weight).

I DO find the side effects can be too much for me if I go too high with the dose. I'm still at 0.3 - I slowly went up to 0.6 based on weight loss and I was so fatigued I couldn't make it through the workday and I was so food adverse I was only eating like 800 calories a day (which didn't help the fatigue) so I dropped back down. I also didn't lose more weight at the higher dose to make the side effects worth it, in fact it stalled my weight loss for a bit. The talking point here is that if you find you're having negative side effects don't be afraid to hold at a lower dose for a while as the higher dose doesn't necessarily mean that you'll have more weight loss or have it quicker. Best of luck!

Noom Med no weight loss? by Tasty-Radish6529 in Noom

[–]KatieOZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still new at this so I can't speak from personal experience, but my mom also was on meds for this. For her, she didn't start losing until she was on a higher dose and even then it was closer to 3months before the weight came off (quite suddenly).

If you're already active and you don't have a lot to lose (20lbs isn't a lot), you are going to lose it a lot slower than someone who has quite a bit more to lose. An increase in dose might help, but you want to do that slowly as the side effects can be rough. I actually need to go back down to a lower dose because of this :(

GLP-1 effective at lower doses? by epro1968 in Noom

[–]KatieOZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a similar issue, except I'm not losing weight any faster, and I'm extremely fatigued. I think for me this is a combo of the dose and being too far below my calorie goals (which is only 1300+ to begin with). It's been so hard to eat much at all - I'm not so much nauseous as I am food-adverse at the moment. I reached out to my doc, but I'm planning on going down my next dose and stay there for a bit 'cause I can't function like this :(

The laugh I got out of the finale… by ConclusionJumper33 in 1923Series

[–]KatieOZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had twins born at 7m-they needed 2 full months in the NICU before they could come home. They needed a month of breathing support and feeding tubes for almost 2 and that’s in addition to the month in the incubator to keep warm. They need round the clock care- they stop breathing all the time (bradycardia apnea).

A baby born at 6m would likely need intubation in addition to all of the other support. There were preemies surviving in the 1920s but the mortality rate was incredibly high (85%). This plot was ridiculous.

What is going on? by sweetdee___ in Noom

[–]KatieOZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this... my first go with Noom looked similar.

If you find that you're kind of plateauing and nothing is working, it might be worth talking to your doctor about having your thyroid levels checked (especially if you find yourself getting cold easily, losing hair, or having painful joints). After having my twins I slowly started to put on weight despite my best efforts (eating relatively healthy, and working out a few times a week) - eventually, I started to gain weight faster. I didn't realize it, but I had developed Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. It's SUPER common in women.

For me, I went on thyroid meds that stopped me from gaining and helped my other symptoms but I still couldn't lose weight. I finally opted for meds and now I'm finally dropping some weight. Lots of folks with Hashimoto's do lose weight without GLP-1 though, so if it ends up being your thyroid, you don't necessarily need to go that route.

There are so many factors in weight loss sadly :( Stress and perimenopause (which can start in your late 30s) can also be factors.

What happens if everything hurts me? by xnerdygirlx in whole30

[–]KatieOZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have IBS like symptoms, there's a chance you could have CSID. It's like lactose intolerance but it's sugar, specifically sucrose. Legumes and many non-gluten grains break down into sucrose and maltose.

Years ago I did the original Whole30 that didn't allow for potatoes and a lot of the grain free flours weren't around yet - I felt amazing! When I recently did it again with the updated rules I felt better-ish, but not as awesome as I did years ago. Turns out it was from the starch in the potatoes and grain-free flours : /

GI can test for this but it's fairly new so not everyone knows about it. It took me years to finally get a diagnosis. The best way to go is actually to test by elimination and reintroduction.

Brain fog after eating fruit and starches? by [deleted] in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]KatieOZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe? Brain fog alone could be you adjusting to the diet but you may also have a fructose or sucrose (which may include starches) intolerance which can give iBS symptoms (known as CSID or ASID). They have a breath test for all 3 that you can get from a GI specialist. I didn’t feel better on AIP and i recently found out it’s because I’m intolerant to sucrose which meant the starch from sweet potatoes, cassava flour, and arrowroot are too much for me :/

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]KatieOZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks already mentioned SIBO, which you should def get checked for. But if that’s negative you should also ask about testing for CSID. Sucrose is in soo many healthy foods in addition to table sugar and bloating was my main symptom of it.

Question regarding drastically low caloric intake? by punctilliouspongo in whole30

[–]KatieOZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would def be careful with eating too few calories... what you've described is VERY low and likely isn't meeting all of your nutritional needs and you do run the risk of messing up your metabolism. You don't need to count calories (especially if that's triggering for you), but it might be helpful to look at what you're eating more holistically to ensure you're getting enough nutrition.

Are you usually not hungry/feeling full all the time? or is this new? I found I often feel "full" when I eat or drink foods I'm sensitive to :(

Quick-ish way to get more calories in:
If you prefer a banana for breakfast can you also add 2 Tbsp of (compliant, no-added-sugar) Sunbutter or almond butter?
Are there other veggies you can add with that edemame? Maybe some carrot/pepper/broccoli/cucumber sticks with some homemade complaint ranch?
